Booked a last min two night trip next weekend
Booked Krakow and they were £30 each (me and partner )
Excited at first but then adding everything up
Hotel is £180 each
Uber to airport £50 each way
spending money £200 each
Then a drink in airport
So your looking at £430 plus £45 to choose plane seats as I’m scared of flying so that’s £480 ish
This close to Christmas
We literally live month to month
We don’t have savings etc
We do normally have around £1300 disposable income after bills but we never save and also our food comes out of this too.

Sensible me is thinking loose £30
What would you do?

Taxi won't be much, Poland is very cheap, and it's only 20 mins from the airport. Went last month. You'd be hard pushed to spend £200 both of you for 2 days. Food and souveniers are cheap, you can walk everywhere. Bet it's lovely and christmassy now, don't cancel.

I don’t know why you’re hesitating or what you’re saying really? You’re using the disposable income from 2 monthly wage packets to go on a mini break. That isn’t extravagant.

I think you have a bigger problem than the cost of a weekend city break. Your boyfriend appears to have a serious gambling problem.

Didn't read whole thread. Gosh you are in for a world of trouble with a man like that.

TiredMummma · 20/11/2025 20:46

Ok so your partner desperately needs help, is a gambling addict and it’s a massive red flag that you are having to control his money already. With the flights you can do it but why on earth would you be booking such a ridiculously expensive hotel? Why would you not be getting the bus? Why do you need a drink at the airport? Poland is cheap so it’s very odd to spend that much. Also why on earth are you doing hotel stays near home when you have no kids? It is your money but if you are running into debt then that’s a problem - £1300 disposable income is a lot! I

We are both pretty stupid with money
We Live together and do hotel stays most months (close to home ) nights out /meals etc ..before you know it we have a week before pay day and have to budget meal plan.
i do want to better for next year

Sorry op, you need a wake up call. Get your act together and start budgeting money for stuff: your bills, your groceries, saving money and budget for trips.
Stick to your budget.
It will give you peace of mind and you will learn to plan your trips better.

you’re 27, you’re still young but it’s also high time you learn to budget your money. How are you otherwise ever going to be able to do the big adult stuff like paying for a wedding, have kids or buy a house?

Krakow is cheap for accommodation- £180 a night is ott. You can half that. Drive to the airport as you’ll get 3 days parking for about £30 - 40. You’ll eat and go out at home so might only be about 150 between you - you can’t spend 200 each over 2 days!

it Will cost you half what you think but cancel if you like.

He wasn’t no,as we have a holiday for June booked for next year (paying monthly ) so has said to just look forward to this..we are going to London for a night after Xmas too so he says to just save for that…like I say I thought wow £30 and jumped in head first

but then making out he’s the one crap with money

Shes not making out his crap with money. He is. I mean, it's not even crap, it's completely addicted and irresponsible.

Ivy888 · 20/11/2025 21:06

ohitssnowww · 20/11/2025 16:45

No,my partner spends a lot on online slots
Sometimes can be £500 or more
i have started making him withdraw money and il keep it for him.
So then my disposable goes on food or paying for nights out etc

Do you realise your partner is a gambling addict? Do you really want to be with an addict?
It’s unclear to me if he’s spending £500 in one go while gambling, £1200 a month on gambling, or £500 a month on gambling, but with any of those scenarios he is spending a fuck load off money on gambling! (And don’t forget he is unlikely to be honest about how much he spends, the true amount is probably way higher).

BuildbyNumbere · 20/11/2025 21:09

£480 each??? That’s very expensive for a weekend away just before Xmas!

PurplGirl · 20/11/2025 21:43

VenusClapTrap · 20/11/2025 17:33

Well I was all set to say go, do it on the cheap, have a lovely time. Then I read your update about the gambling! Ditch the loser and go with a friend.

This. OP you need to seriously consider if this is the guy for you. Gambling addiction is serious stuff.

AlwaysIntrigued · 20/11/2025 22:34

I love travelling so I say go for it! Krakow is such a beautiful place that everyone should experience. As people have said already, Poland is still very reasonable and you can absolutely get a much cheaper hotel than you’ve quoted. Look at booking.com and filter by cheapest first. Go and enjoy! You don’t make memories staying at home.

In the words of the OP… they are both pretty stupid with money

I see a pregnancy on the horizon

Maryberrysbouffant · 21/11/2025 06:29

Jesus, I couldn’t be in a relationship with someone who wastes money on online slots 🤦‍♀️ Sorry, not the point of the thread but how do you expect to save/buy a house/build a future with someone who has a gambling addiction?

sparrowhawkhere · 21/11/2025 06:44

You both sound incredibly irresponsible with money. Do you own a house or are you renting? Do you have no savings at all or very little? You need to be saving even £100/200 a month to build it up. You’ll spend years wishing you’d saved.

Jackiepumpkinhead · 21/11/2025 08:07

I’d probably just lose the £30 if I was worried about other costs. The refunded taxes won’t be much, just so you’re aware.

Is that £1300 each or between you?

Zanatdy · 21/11/2025 08:15

I wouldn’t go. Do a budget and stick to it, and move money to a holiday fund and a sinking fund each month so you have money for holidays and unexpected expenses.

Mrsgus · 21/11/2025 09:59

Pack some Pot Noodles and get a cheap bottle each of whatever you drink in the airport duty free and that'll save you a few pennies 🤣

JillMW · 21/11/2025 10:32

If you can’t afford it don’t go!
