Husband wants to move to dubai

1000 replies

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:37

My husband is a businessman in property and with the recent proposed tax changes and new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK, he’s now saying he needs to move to Dubai and operate from there.

We actually have some friends there, and his business partner is already based out there, so on paper it all sounds easy enough. His plan is to buy a second property in Dubai and move there by himself, while I stay here with the kids.

The problem is, the children are really settled one’s in high school and the other is due to start soon, so moving them just isn’t an option. He’s suggested that we (me and the kids) fly out to Dubai every school holiday to spend time with him.

The catch is, under his visa he can only be out of Dubai for 90 days a year, so he’d basically have to live there full-time.

AIBU to think this is just not going to work long-term? I can’t help but feel like this is the start of living completely separate lives.

I don’t believe that but people can’t act horrified if someone is landing or working in Dubai. This is pathetic.
it is possible criticising other governments without behaving like your country never did anything wrong.

Lots of countries behaved appalling fly, many years ago. They recognise that now. Dubai needs to catch up.

I think he should pay his fucking taxes in the UK. Especially if his family will be here anyway.
People bailing out because they may have to contribute a bit more are supremely selfish. And any man who would move to Dubai gives not one single fuck about women.

This. And also gives not one fuck about the poor slaves who built the fucking monstrosity of a place.

MrsSkylerWhite · 10/11/2025 00:13

Sorry, no idea where the “fly” came from!

This very country was and still is facilitating genocide in Palestine

As far as I know. My internet search tells me there's no guardianship laws restricting non Muslim women in marriages with non Muslim men. They can divorce freely and/or leave the country with no restriction?

The migrant labour problem is real.

I don't know what's happening in Sudan, is the UK funding genocide as well by supporting Israel?

I wasn't referring to laws to do with women .I was thinking of the jail for non-marital sex law, for one thing.

Migrant labour problem- charming euphemism. More like slavery!

Israel's treatment of Palestine is definitely worthy of strong criticism .But it is NOT genocide. To designate it as genocide is disgusting and inaccurate.

UAE's genocide in Sudan, otoh ...you 'don't know'? Find out :

Hmmm. To me i ask if the tax burden is already high, why don't we have the money for services?

Why would a little bit more be the solution?

You've given me pause for taught though.

I said current tax level, not more. I believe the tax system isn't working because of wasteful, corrupt & ineffective politicians, common sense says it could be used much more effectively. Royal Family corruption isn't helpful either.

The non marital sex law is not there anymore if I'm correct?

You understand tax but don’t understand the detriment of high earners leaving because of high tax?

Is math not your forte.

Not math no but we can do maths......stick around kid, you might learn something.

'Pathetic', eh?

I very much doubt that any critic of Dubai on this thread has claimed or implied that the UK has never done anything wrong. What an absurd straw man.

I repeat my question: were you comparing the tragedies you mentioned the UAE's role in the Sudan genocide? Or to Saudi/Qatari laws? Or both?

Yes it is, no argument from me.

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 10/11/2025 00:21

So he’d rather be away from his family than pay his fair share of tax. Says a lot about what kind of man he is - good luck, rather you than me.

Ah right, apologies. That's a major improvement-wonder if the negative publicity of Marcus Fakana played a role in that?

That's not the only problem, of course.

404 error.

I think the non marital sex law got changed years ago.

Exactly, and plenty of countries haven't actively facilitated genocide, especially not recently.

Obeseandashamed · 10/11/2025 00:23

I could be wrong but I don’t think it’s that he can only be out of dubai for 90 days in the year, it’s that he can’t be in the U.K for more than 90 days in the year as otherwise he would have to pay tax here.

aneelli · 10/11/2025 00:23

Don’t op. I know quite a few people who have moved to Dubai with their families and started affairs. And these ppl are the last ones you’d expect it from. Ur dh living there on his own, far too easy of a target.

You seriously think that the UK never sponsored a war or genocide?

UK sometimes participated directly.
you want a list?
How about Mau Mau uprising in Kenya?

Unpopular opinion but I get why all these wealthy people are ditching the UK. What's the purpose of all the tax if we aren't able to see the ROI

Obeseandashamed · 10/11/2025 00:29

Also, he could spend 5 days per month in the U.K and then a month here over summer. I know of a few families that have this sort of arrangement. One of my friends said she thought she would hate it but it works really well as the kids are busy during term time with extra curricular stuff and homework etc. They also fly out there whenever they can and the kids love it.
