Husband wants to move to dubai

1000 replies

Dilemma87 · 09/11/2025 20:37

My husband is a businessman in property and with the recent proposed tax changes and new rules putting limits on how long he can keep doing things from the UK, he’s now saying he needs to move to Dubai and operate from there.

We actually have some friends there, and his business partner is already based out there, so on paper it all sounds easy enough. His plan is to buy a second property in Dubai and move there by himself, while I stay here with the kids.

The problem is, the children are really settled one’s in high school and the other is due to start soon, so moving them just isn’t an option. He’s suggested that we (me and the kids) fly out to Dubai every school holiday to spend time with him.

The catch is, under his visa he can only be out of Dubai for 90 days a year, so he’d basically have to live there full-time.

AIBU to think this is just not going to work long-term? I can’t help but feel like this is the start of living completely separate lives.

Would there be a big financial hit to your family home if you don't move?

If you have friends in Dubai you could have an amazing lifestyle for a couple of years. Hey yourself a nanny, cleaner, chef and live the high life for a bit. It'll be a fab experience for your kids too.

I don’t think it does. Maybe you just heard for the first time today.

AI answer

This is a popular quote, attributed to Alex Hormozi, that suggests that the ability to use money to create happiness through generosity and helping others is often overlooked
. The saying plays on the idea that while money itself may not guarantee happiness, its use for good deeds can be a significant source of it

You can keep asking personal information, you won’t get it. I will not tell you where I live. Not sure why you are so obsessed about my location.

I couldn’t give two shits where you live. You seem to be failing to grasp what I’m actually asking/saying, which is why not leave if the country is so crap? I asked if you already had merely to find out whether that was redundant advice.
Im not going to reply to you anymore because I can do without the weird aggressive tone.

lovemetomybones · 09/11/2025 21:42

This is the beginning of the end.

I think he should pay his fucking taxes in the UK. Especially if his family will be here anyway.
People bailing out because they may have to contribute a bit more are supremely selfish. And any man who would move to Dubai gives not one single fuck about women.

I wonder how much taxes you actually pay 🙄

This is not an airport, you don’t need to announce your departure.

Irrelevant.

The husband doesn’t want her and his kids to move with him.

He wants the bachelor lifestyle and a tax-free salary while the U.K. taxpayer funds services his family will use.

shuggles · 09/11/2025 21:44

@Dilemma87 The thing that's hilarious is all of these wealthy people saying "if you're going to raise taxes, we're going to leave then we won't be paying any tax!"

Do they seriously think we care?

I would be of the opinion that everyone with that attitude should leave immediately and never come back.

User5306921 · 09/11/2025 21:44

Dubai isn't somewhere I'm interesting in going to but I think it may afford you kids a better life than they currently have.

Pity there isn't a chance to relocate to Australia though.

You could put them in an English school and let them continue their education with the British curriculum.

Why do you wonder that?
I was a teacher for 35 years, paying through PAYE. I’m now retired and paying tax on my pension. I have never resented taxation. It’s a social good.

Highly doubt it. You do realise 10% of the population in the world are gay right? And that women can be gay too?

Safer and happier still stands 🤣

If the 0.2% who might be gay in dubai move to sunny Britain, they are a 100% more likely to get mugged, graped and unalived in the UK than if they just stayed home.
That stats coming from the fact that crime is ridiculously low in Dubai, Murder hardly ever happens over years
On the other hand 2 women are killed every week in the UK.
No idea about other crime
But 2 women killed a week? That is an insane number
Very odd that Britian is so free, and apparently upholds women's rights and human rights and yet they can't even keep women safe from murder! Not from their intimate partners
And not even from the police.

So yeah, live in detail all you like
And accept that this is in fact one of the most dangerous places for a woman to live.

British schools abroad have the English curriculum.

This is a concern as he does enjoy ‘female friends’

This in itself puts me right off your husband. Not only is he happy to live apart from you and the children, he cannot be trusted to be faithful. You would probably be better off letting him go, to be honest, although I feel sorry for your children.

ThankYouNigel · 09/11/2025 21:47

My friend was living out there with her DH and he ran off with a younger woman. It’s a different world, one non-stop party, everything done for you, totally materialistic. My friend blames the lifestyle there for turning her ex into an entitled brat. I would never in a million years agree to my DH spending time there without me after all I have been told, genuinely.

Women’s rights in a country where you get called a bigot for actually insisting that a woman is an adult human female. What a joke.

Hons123 · 09/11/2025 21:48

Love stories of greed - can you imagine loving money so much that you would volunteer to spend, say, June and July in Dubai?

PermanentTemporary · 09/11/2025 21:48

So he’s got several property businesses and children in private schools? Mm yes he’s doing terribly.

It being Dubai is a bit of a distraction tbh. There’s no way on God’s earth I even want to visit there but clearly you all like it. This is about your husband fucking off to another country while your children are teenagers. In a way it’s a self-solving problem - a man who wanted to do that isnt really someone I would want to spend a lot of time with. Even assuming he’s faithful (BIG if), he’s going to make an entire new life out there and so will you, back here. Plus presumably he’d be developing assets potentially outside the marriage?? I’m not great on the legal side.

I’d just say I was staying. What he does is up to him.

Ethics don't change with circumstances.
A young person go8ng somewhere else so that one income would be enough and they could buy a house - fine. No ethical issues there. Not entirely sure such a place exits, but if they can find somewhere they can have a better life, great. Go for it.
OP’s husband and his ilk, running away to avoid contributing to a country that gave him the chance to get this wealthy (not taking away from his work at all) but leaving his family to continue to take advantage of the infrastructure he’s not prepared to fund?
Totally different (and immoral).

Yes they do
So carry on being a martyr
Tax is stupid high in this country and certainly doesn't align with my beliefs.
The tax system is unfair
How do you feel that billionaires evade tax?
The government and law makers evade tax
And yet you want average joe to serve his masters and betters?
That's how you keep the rich rich, my dear

Do you think people expressing an opinion is weird? That's weird...

Yes, quite. Built on the backs of itinerant labourers and the poor. Passport slaves. But as long as you can live on the Palm, have your quota of servants and private healthcare, no need to care.

Oh so like the UK?
Ah ok
They learnt from the best 😉

WildLimePoet · 09/11/2025 21:51

Whenever you meet people who have this irrational hatred of Dubai and US and try and talk people out of moving there. You notice one common trait. That they’re not very bright and certainly not talented enough to ever be the types who would get offered anything decent there to move for.

They tend to be raging leftie types, usually not well travelled, regurgitate what they read in the Guardian and not very economically and fiscally aware.

Also ironic that the most angry and aggressive person on this thread is the one accusing someone else of being angry! 😂
