Blatantly here for traffic. Been so sick since last Friday. Started with slimy throat and horrible taste in my mouth intermittently on Friday. Saturday onwards a temperature every 3 hours when the drugs wore off, not mega high, over 38c. First day fever free today.the bad throat started Saturday ,all on one side, then bad head cold symptoms, tinnitus, earache, sinus pain and nausea. Continued like that until today when it's worse head cold symptoms.cough Saturday which started off dry and is now mega wet and disgusting. Can't smell a thing. No aches and pain except a little in my back on one side. Have done 2 COVID tests, one Monday one today both clear, new tests from Tesco.

I had that for about a fortnight. All the symptoms you’ve described, including Diarrhoea for three days. I’m still a bit wobbly. DH had much the same symptoms. The DC had a milder version for a week before passing it on to us.

I still cough wet crap every morning when I get up.

paulhollywoodshairgel · 22/10/2025 18:20

Yes! Just getting over it now after 10 days. I was certain it was Covid but it wasn’t! Get well soon xx

Handeyethingyowl · 22/10/2025 18:22

Yes I have had this. A very bad virus I think but didn’t feel like Covid. Although I didn’t test.

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 18:25

I’ve got this now I’m on two weeks tomorrow so far I’ve had sore throat, temp 38.7, headaches, cough, dodgy tummy, conjunctivitis, and now I’m at cough (less serious) sore throat again and weird ears

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 18:25

It’s the worst thing I’ve had for a very long time

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 18:26

I spoke to NHS direct and they told me it’s one of the new strains of Covid - it’s a fricking hideous

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 18:26

God I forgot the night sweats

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 18:27

And the sinus pain

Maisieandmia · 22/10/2025 18:27

It could be flu, there's a lot of it around at the moment. Or it could still be covid as I think the tests have a high false negative rate. Anyway whatever it is I hope you feel better soon! 💐

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 18:28

My cough went the other way was very wet and is now dry and v annoying

whereisit1 · 22/10/2025 18:33

Hello everyone I knew there would be other victims out there! Sorry you've all been to poorly. My ds who's 4 has been coughing a bit recently but the rest are ok for now. Interesting that the tests may not pick up the new strains, I did wonder that, especially with the weird sudden total smell loss and the vile taste. Can't really describe it, not metallic but maybe like a cross between a rotten tooth and orange peel

I had an awful dose dueing the summer.
Awful to think there is an even worse version out there.
I hope you feel better soon.

ProfessionalWhimsicalSkidaddler · 22/10/2025 18:50

Yes!!! The taste I thought was just me. I hope you and DS are ok!

I’ve had it to some degree for two weeks now and it’s lingering. It didn’t feel like when I had Covid but after I while I was so fatigued that I took a test.

I’ve never seen so much snot.

Flowers To everyone

And the sinus pain

The sinus pain has been the worst.I'm suffering as I type.I've been a lifelong sufferer with dodgy sinuses but this pain has been horrible.

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 19:04

It’s just horrible tbh I’ve never had anything like it for just sapping every bit of energy from my body

Womanofcustard · 22/10/2025 19:07

I definitely had the new covid strain a couple of weeks ago. Mostly muscle pain and cough.

Focusispower · 22/10/2025 19:10

We have all had it exactly as you’ve described!!! Same symptoms, same progression. Still hacking up lumps two weeks since it started but generally better now. It’s been the worst and longest lasting illness I’ve had for a while. Kids were grotty for ages and coughing through the night. Since their coughs finally wore off they have been sleeping earlier and for longer whilst they recover.

I didn’t test anyone until we were two weeks in so probably too late - Covid tests were negative. The only reason I tested was because whatever the virus is caused my youngest DC to become more sensitive to food allergies and he had all over body hives for a few days without an obvious exposure to an allergen!

BoldBlueZebra · 22/10/2025 19:11

I haven’t had a sick day from work in 8 years it’s that bad I’ve had time off

AngelsWithSilverWings · 22/10/2025 19:11

I'm on week 4 of this now. Plodding along and just want to feel normal again.

Tested after a couple of days of feeling unwell and was positive.

Chest is still painful/burning and I'm coughing up stuff all the time. Get out of breath just talking. Tired constantly. First week was just as OP describes.

PuzzlesonSaturday · 22/10/2025 19:12

It's unlikely to be covid if you have had two negative tests.

It sounds like a particularly nasty cold. I think covid made us forget just how horrible the common cold can be.

I hope you feel better soon. ❤️

Flamethrowers · 22/10/2025 19:24

I had a sudden onset thing yesterday started with a violent coughing fit and progressed to snot and feeling achey and by the end of the day I was in bed with a positive covid test. in bed again today blocked achey and hot. strongly positive. my daughters university friends all felled too.

PistachioTiramisu · 22/10/2025 19:40

My husband and I both had Covid in July - felt really rotten - got over that with a lingering cough. Then we both caught a cold last month and both still have this awful morning cough and sneezing. Fed up with it.

whereisit1 · 22/10/2025 20:08

How could I forget the vertigo.
Interesting that those who tested positive had aches and pains,I've not had any much to speak of. If I get COVID after this I think it will finish me off, this is my third cold in a month. Maybe that's why it hit so hard. Will read that article now
