Neighbour has put up huge Unite the Kingdom flag

UrticaDioca · 05/10/2025 15:05

I am gutted. I haven't seen a single flag in my town, and suddenly this union jack goes up two doors over with the words 'Unite the Kingdom' printed on it in capital letters. The flag is huge and flying from a pole on top of their shed, but it's in their own garden so nothing can be done.

I am the daughter of an immigrant mother and therefore mixed race. Now I have to see this fucking flag waving at me every time I look out of my kitchen or living room windows.

TLDR: The flags are a stand against the illegal immigrants, the ones who endanger others. See screenshot. Not the guy who runs the takeaway, not the woman who married a British guy and raised a family here etc. It's to put a stop to people like the one in the screenshot... Then getting away with it because 'he didn't know he shouldn't rape children.'

I have Polish and Ukrainian neighbours who have Union Jack and/or St. George flags on display.

I've became friends with the Polish woman and as the conversation went, she's against the illegal immigrants. She doesn't feel threatened by the flags, she loves them. She feels, as many others do, that it's unfair that she, a hard working, came here legally, woman, is being made uncomfortable by random men who seemed to have just turned up from nowhere.
The men, who have no ID, who stare at her young teenage daughters as they pass. The men who, if they ever did anything sinister, would probably be nameless and faceless to ever bring to justice. I'm with her, she's with the many, many others who feel the same. It's not about a divide of England VS The Rest Of The World.

It's British people who were born here, who earned the right to move here, who don't want to feel threatened in a place we call home, against men who don't know or care about our culture. The illegal man who hurt two girls here, stating he didn't know he couldn't do that!! That's who the flag is against. Not anyone who is here to fit in or atleast, do no harm and who pay tax etc.

So no. The flying of flags, atleast around here, are not all from racists. It's not about skin colour. It's 100% about behaviour. In my small town, it was mainly whites as I grew up. Now, we have many Turkish (takeaways and barbers, always busy businesses,) blacks (they have many white friends in the schools and are often seen in work uniforms) Indian, Chinese, Thai... There's never an issue with them. But there is an issue when men who no one knows, or have seen before, start following women. It's caught on video and camera.

No idea who Tommy Robinson is.

Wow!

Personally I like to keep up with what's going on in the world..

OP, I'm sorry you're going through this. I too would be horrified if I had to look at that shite all day. Sending strength.

Gillian Duffy was a bigoted woman. She was from my home town. I never understood why he resigned over that.

Because at the time there were protest marches by British tradesmen because they were being undercut by foreign workers. Gordon Brown had promised British jobs for British workers which never happened, so GD was voicing the concerns of many of the British public. If he had refused to resign it would have been political suicide anyway.

@UrticaDioca if you are that offended by the flag of the country you live in, perhaps its time to move somewhere where you do respect the country's flag.

No not really. People change TR is mainstream now I agree 20 plus years ago he could be considered racist.

😂 in what way has he changed?

Youcunnyfunt · 05/10/2025 18:27

Eek, if you’ve never had much to do with them before, just ignore them.

If it makes you feel better, my bellend neighbour installed a 6 foot flag on the front of our terrace, next to his bedroom windows.

It’s been windy and stormy the past two days and it sounded like a ship yard night before last! The ‘poor’ fucker had to sleep next to this wailing, flapping flag smacking against his glass windows all night… and I’m sure his neighbours the other side weren’t happy about the noise next to their bedroom.

I looked up as I left the house this morning and smiled when I saw the flag had suddenly disappeared. The bellend had managed to annoy himself!

Pray for high winds, OP. If not to take it down, just so that they can get mightily annoyed by sound. 😇

SatsumaDog · 05/10/2025 18:28

I can understand why you are upset op. Its message is clear and it isn’t patriotism. I don’t know what can be done about it though. Hopefully someone who knows them well will have a word and tney’ll take it down

noblegiraffe · 05/10/2025 18:29

I'll repost this picture of Tommy Robinson with his United the Kingdom flag because it looks like it needs pointing out again that he was deliberately posing with a number 88 bus because '88' is a racist's code for 'Heil Hitler'. Something that Tommy Robinson would be well aware of.

He hasn't changed in the slightest.

Why is it nasty to want to unite the UK (the united kingdom, after all)?

Fake innocence is really boring. You know as well as I do why it’s nasty.

BluntPlumHam · 05/10/2025 18:31

I know loads of areas where the house prices have dropped because of idiots like this. Currently a friend in a very nice area is struggling to sell her home because a few doors down some idiot who is renting has stuck a flag on their house. They’re honestly worst kind.

CountFucula · 05/10/2025 18:31

“That's who the flag is against“ hang on @Sasha07 just said that the flag IS to protest against people. I’m confused as I’m sure the Unite the Flag apologists upthread insisted it was to demonstrate patriotism and pride?

ToWhitToWhoo · 05/10/2025 18:35

SheSmellsSeaShells · 05/10/2025 15:14

I would interpret Unite the Kingdom as anti racist and in opposition to the St George flag epidemic.

Unfortunately it was the name of Tommy Robinson's rally.

That's a bit of a stretch. If you look at houses for sale on line in many areas, plenty have been up for sale long before people started putting up flags. House prices quite often start higher than they are worth. Estate Agents often do this.

babyproblems · 05/10/2025 18:36

WalkDontWalk · 05/10/2025 15:11

I'd go over and say, "Am I part of the kingdom you want to unite? Is there anyone currently in the kingdom that you don't want to unite?"

And unless the answers are respectively 'yes' and 'no', I'd put up my own flag saying, 'Unite the Kingdom, except the bloke at number 27 and a few others (list available on request)'

Edited

This.
Id deffo help pay for a custom flag that specifically said ‘unite the kingdom - except for the man at No.27’

You could put up some multi flag bunting that has flags from all over the world aswell.
(what a tit he is)

ColadhSamh · 05/10/2025 18:37

@UrticaDioca your feelings are valid. The attempted minimising, deflection and passive aggressiveness from some are a clear indication of why you are concerned. You are not alone.

BoredZelda · 05/10/2025 18:39

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 05/10/2025 15:18

It's just you.

Most people know that "unite the kingdom" reflects support for a racist campaign led by Tommy Robinson and his cronies.

Not just them, I didn’t know that either. I haven’t been living under a rock, and I’m well aware of Yaxley-Lennon and his behaviour, I’ve seen all the flag nonsense etc. I hadn’t heard of Unite the Kingdom. It’s a bizarre tag line and meaningless, but there we are then.

ToWhitToWhoo · 05/10/2025 18:39

I'd be tempted to put up a Union flag of my own, together with a poster saying 'Unite the kingdom against the far right. Reclaim our flag!'

Not really much of a stretch. If I were house hunting and the area was awash with England flags at the moment, I would even bother going. I can’t be the only one who thinks that.

2dogsandabudgie · 05/10/2025 18:41

Kemi Badenoch was standing next to a Union Jack flag at the Tory Conference, does that mean she is now classed as a racist. Anyone who votes Tory are they now classed as racist by association.

Andouillette · 05/10/2025 18:42

UrticaDioca · 05/10/2025 15:34

I will certainly try and tell myself that. I do think that if they were just patriotic then it'd be a union jack without the wording.

Sadly that little tosspot has co-opted the Union flag. Try looking at it this way; Unite the Kingdom is a bloody stupid slogan for them to use, after all it implies that we should all be supporting each other! I am trying to think of a way we could spread that interpretation and make TR and his merry band of wankers look even more idiotic than they usually do.

Unite Our Kingdom in Friendship and Kindness to All.

He’s a massive racist.

Sasha07 · 05/10/2025 18:43

@CountFucula everyone will have their own reasons. It's ridiculous to think that every person has the same perspective. I'm speaking from my experience, it's surely not hard to comprehend that we all have our own opinions. You're coming across as someone with an us vs them attitude, which is the issue you seem to be against? Good, law abiding people, SHOULD be against anyone, of any background, who harms others.
My perspective is, the OP shouldn't feel threatened, but I don't know their area or experiences. They'd maybe agree too, that we should be proud of living here and against anyone who comes and is a potential harm because of a clash of cultures.

It's Tommy Robinson and his lot who don't respect our flag. Using it to incite racism and disunity.

So you know of racist violence by flag shaggers.

I didn't say Any brown face will do, that was another poster. I did say all because that's what happened. It wasn't just brown people. I don't see how that makes it less racist.Confused

Edited

'I didn't say Any brown face will do, that was another poster.' Yes just clocked that.

However, PP wrote 'Because usually those that fly those flags don't stop at discriminating against just illegal refugees. Any brown face will do.'

I responded: 'You have zero evidence for that.'

You then came flying in to say: 'I take it you didnt follow the racist riots in NI earlier this year. All immigrants in the areas effected were targeted. As well as a leisure centre sheltering those driven from their homes.'

So what was the relevance of your response? I was pointing out PP had no evidence to suggest people who fly flags were targeting others for the colour of their skin. Your reply actually proved my point!

'So you know of racist violence by flag shaggers.' Eh?

'It wasn't just brown people. I don't see how that makes it less racist.' Because it was about immigration status not race. Call it 'illegal immigrant Xenophobia' and 'anger at violence towards citizens' if we are going to be accurate about the causes of these riots.

AAAAND it's still a fact that nobody can prove anyone who flies a Union Flag is an automatic racist or 'flag shagger.' These are just ignorant assumptions.

I also find it quite hilarious that the majority of people I see using the term 'flag shagger' are often shagging every flag going except those of the UK!

I wouldn’t move to such a place. I wouldn’t even view the house if the area was covered in flags.
