Why is my husbands phone showing wrong location

Justacigarette · 22/09/2025 20:06

DH and I share location on our phones.

Went to check his location to see if he was on way home from gym. But it was in a very random place that he would never be. I was a bit worried that someone had stolen his phone.
suddenly the phone showed that he was at the gym (phone had been in a locker)

the locations were a couple of miles away.

any idea what could have caused this?

Location accuracy can be low if phone signal, GPS or wi-fi signal is weak. Which it probably would be if the phone is in a metal locker at the gym.

Unicornsandprincesses · 22/09/2025 20:09

My husbands does that on the way home from work sometimes. He’ll be biking home and I like to see how long he’ll be as the kids are driving me crazy so I know when to put on the pasta, rice etc.

sometimes it’ll say he’s somewhere quite far away, but that was en route. Then all of a sudden it’ll update and show that he’s much closer.

could it be something like that, or was it a totally different area of town, not between home and the gym?

Delatron · 22/09/2025 20:11

This is why I don’t track locations.. they can be really inaccurate. It once showed my DS as in the River Thames - I thought he’d drowned! I don’t track any of my family now..it causes more problems than it solves.

poetryandwine · 22/09/2025 20:13

My phone that is with me sometimes shows I am in a city I’ve travelled to a few days before.

I will ask google for walking directions to someplace new within a couple of miles and it will tell me that it will take 22 hours or something.

Justacigarette · 22/09/2025 20:14

Thanks so much everyone. It wasn’t a location he had travelled through today (or any time at all recently that I can think of).

Because the ‘technology’ is not infallible’. My office is all the way in the back of the building I work in, thus my office is closer to another street than it is to my building’s actual address. The find my function only reports that my phone, iPad, watch, AirTag are frequently not at my place of work. I’ve even had my watch and iPhone registering miles apart when at the time, they were both on my person.

Thank fuck, I don’t have some nosey spouse acting like Miss Marple.

Delatron · 22/09/2025 20:25

They just do this. This is why I don’t use them. They are not accurate.

I really hate all this constant tracking of spouses- all on the pretence of ‘just seeing how far from home they are..’ people are entitled to some privacy. Not for every move to be monitored.

Justacigarette · 22/09/2025 20:28

to be fair; we both do the same and check where the other one before starting dinner

Teasforfears · 22/09/2025 20:30

Mine does this all the time. It shows me as really random places, but my other half’s is always pretty accurate. It’s just mine that shows me in the middle of a field when I’m sat at my desk.

Katemax82 · 22/09/2025 21:52

My location history had me 5 miles away at 3am once (when is been in bed and my 3 kids were asleep. My husband was on night shifts. Following morning my husband goes ballistic at me, physically shaking demanding to know why I was out at that time in the morning

MeganM3 · 22/09/2025 22:00

Not always accurate. Mine messes up plenty if I’m travelling, I’ll be on the train and it won’t update or it’ll not catch up. I’d be home & it’s still showing i’m 10 miles north.

NotMeNoNo · 22/09/2025 22:00

It will be to do with how the phone connects to/triangulates between base stations. It's also less accurate indoors. We had a SIM card based tracker for our cat, he would be pottering round nearby gardens then suddenly jump to a mile away across a river, next to a random mobile mast. If something looks odd, it's probably an error, not that your partner has discovered a teleport.

He obviously shouldn’t have done that! But this is my point. People assuming they are accurate and they are not. Hence I don’t track any member of my family as it would drive me crazy with worry most likely.

ThisCanFuckOffToo · 23/09/2025 08:33

Mine told dh I was in Stockport when actually I was in Wiltshire with no reception, so it’s not completely infallible.

What's difficult about calling him?

This tracking nonsense needs to end . .

Idstillratherbepaddleboarding · 23/09/2025 08:36

Mine said I was at home “now” the other day, when I was in the city where DS goes to school waiting to pick him up.

Completely agree. My DH either texts or phones when he leaves work. What is wrong with that? I hate that we have normalised tracking other people. There’s lots of evidence now coming out that this enables coercive behaviour. Leaves women open to abuse. It’s a huge problem for the younger generation of girls. I wish it would just stop.

It should not be normal to track other people…

CurlewKate · 23/09/2025 08:40

Always makes me laugh to think of all these women timing the pasta so that their dh’s have it on the table the very second they step through the door…..

Chemenger · 23/09/2025 08:41

Just a glitch, I would think. Our cat tracker once showed him going out to sea, it’s not completely impossible that he stowed away on a fishing boat but quite unlikely!

ludicrouslycapaciousbags · 23/09/2025 08:45

Oh must get the pasta on...

Oh I like to think he did this for a little adventure and the catch of the day!

Ours is more that he travels quite extensively, and I spend a lot of time out in the middle of nowhere on rural farms.

We don’t all live boring pasta-centric lives.

I also use it when getting dinner on. 🤷‍♀️ I don’t want to call DH when he’s driving as he has an awful and busy route and I don’t want to distract him. He lets me know when he leaves but traffic makes his journey time very variable.

I dont think its about the cooking its about stalking.
Must know where each other is at all times no trust if you need to track each other.
