Why is my husbands phone showing wrong location

Justacigarette · 22/09/2025 20:06

DH and I share location on our phones.

Went to check his location to see if he was on way home from gym. But it was in a very random place that he would never be. I was a bit worried that someone had stolen his phone.
suddenly the phone showed that he was at the gym (phone had been in a locker)

the locations were a couple of miles away.

any idea what could have caused this?

I leave the location on my phone in case of losing it. I used to track kids when they started driving - didn’t do my mental health any good to be honest

Tracking lunacy again. Just stop it. And stop with the ‘ it helps me put the pasta on in time’ excuses

Yeah everyone needs to cut that out, just admit you want to know where your husband is at just in case is up to something he shouldnt be.

Delatron · 23/09/2025 11:13

I’ve heard of parents tracking their kids when they go to uni or away on holidays with friends. Then spend the whole time freaking out in the middle of the night. It’s really not a good thing. Very stressful.

not everyone thinks their husband is shagging someone else: I’d be surprised if mine is to be honest

If my partner so desperately needed to eat pasta immediately upon entering the house that I had to track his exact movements, I’d have instant ick.

Who are these people?

no one needs to instantly eat. But it’s a useful thing for some people

Always the excuse trotted out for spying on your partner though isn’t it?

Dfg15 · 23/09/2025 15:04

My phone once said I was in Pennsylvania, I was actually at work in Welwyn Garden City.

Mama2many73 · 23/09/2025 15:04

Cosyblankets · 23/09/2025 09:24

God forbid they should wait to eat
Lunacy!

Firstly we dont track anyone including the kids BUT my husband will call as he leaves work and I WILL start on tea.
We like to eat as a family but husbands leaving times can be anywhere between 5.15/6.30, kids also have clubs he also does one, etc so , yeah, sometimes he comes in and sits down and eats immediately, then someone will immediately leave, but everyone sits and eats together
Some nights obviously times.dont match so I feed the kids and then me and DH will eat together much later.

I was frantic one day as an app suggested my DD was in a speed boat on the local river and had the little image of it sailing. I thought wth has she been kidnapped?! But not, thankfully the location service wasn’t as accurate as I thought- 😮‍💨

FullOfMomsense · 23/09/2025 15:51

Mine regularly says I'm in Iran, but I'm actually in my house in England!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 23/09/2025 15:54

I logged in (on my laptop) yesterday to install Facebook (which I had on my other laptop but not the one I was currently using). Shortly afterwards I got a message telling me that someone had logged into my Facebook account (ie, me) in Aberdeen. I'm just outside York.

The tech is crap.

ill have to disagree, I wouldn’t say I was “spying”. We both find the feature really useful for multiple reasons.

If I didn’t trust my husband or if he was controlling; we wouldn’t have a relationship any longer

OP posts:
Delatron · 23/09/2025 17:15

But OP it is causing problems because you were worried it showed the wrong location. And started a thread on it - so it must have clearly been on your mind.

Whatever the cause for the worry - it was ill- founded as we’ve seen the tech is wrong. So it is really useful if it’s inaccurate?

What's difficult about calling him?

This tracking nonsense needs to end . .

Calling takes more time than sharing location though. Even handsfree I don't want to be using my phone while driving. I set my Waze to go home and share it with DH. Much quicker than phoning and he'll get updates if I get stuck in traffic.

I go to my parents (a couple of hours drive away), I share the journey with them too, so they can get the kettle on when I'm getting near.

Tracking and sharing location can be convenient to people. It's not automatically a bad thing!

Anyway, "Find My" picks up locations of airtags by them connecting to other people's bluetooth connections.

I wonder if those people are using some sort of VPN that hides their locations, but makes your location bounce as a result?

Caveat - I am by no means a techie! 😂

One of our cars shows its location on the app and it has an AirTag in it too, but neither of them were working earlier today.

Solar flare!?

It's still weird. Takes 2 minutes to boil the kettle, there's literally no need to track someone to make them a cup of tea. This shit shouldn't be normalized.

Yep! I mean what did we used to do? Put the kettle on when people arrived!

My DH mostly just texts as he’s leaving. Or sometimes calls. To be honest I’m not timing his food to be ready the second he walks through the door.

The problem with normalising all this is that when people quite rightly do not want to be tracked, or share their locations people can be suspicious as apparently it’s normal… This is not good.

GingersOwner26 · 23/09/2025 19:12

A few years back I was in Cardiff for a day with Mum, there was a landslip on the railway line and we ended up getting stranded. Mum went to try and find the city centre Premier Inn to see if they had rooms before we ended up going to one just outside the city. We found out later that Google Timeline had put her at some random hotel somewhere between Bath and Bristol, which was obviously rubbish as she wasn’t out of my sight for as long as that would have taken! No idea how it came up with that.

Yes and imagine if she’d had a slightly controlling husband. Which I’m sure she doesn’t but you can see how these inaccuracies with locations can cause problems in many relationships.

This is why tracking someone should not be normalised.

Magpiecomplex · 23/09/2025 19:20

Mine once claimed I travelled from Kent to London via a five minute diversion through Tokyo. I hadn't been using it long, trying it out of curiosity, and immediately stopped again.

Loloj · 23/09/2025 19:28

My 90 year old grandma was showing as bobbing around in the North Sea the other week.

TickleMyPickle · 23/09/2025 19:38

We use life360 and when I was away with work in New York and it showed that at 2am I had gone on a 90 min walk around Hell’s Kitchen when I was fast asleep in bed at my hotel!
Also when my son went on holiday to Cyprus, I got a notification saying he’d landed in Beirut😱

Delatron · 22/09/2025 20:25

They just do this. This is why I don’t use them. They are not accurate.

I really hate all this constant tracking of spouses- all on the pretence of ‘just seeing how far from home they are..’ people are entitled to some privacy. Not for every move to be monitored.

I couldn't agree more.

user1471453601 · 23/09/2025 19:59

A tad off point, but amused me (I'm easily amused) my phone thinks im nearly always in my neighbours house.

Neighbour is very nice, I like them very much, but I've never been in their house.

Love4both · 23/09/2025 20:11

My DH hates it fay mealis ready the moment he comes through the door. He much prefers to wait 30 mins or so.
