Fucking Gross Adverts

It started with little kids on the toilet with their pants round their ankles, holding their noses.

Then there was the one with a woman farting at work and then scurrying to the bathroom clutching a bog roll.

I think I reached the nadir last night when I was subjected to an advert for razors which treated me to the sight of a man bending down with his back to the camera and his hand under his dressing gown, shaving his sack and crack.

I mean, that might not be the nadir. Maybe next time they’ll drop the dressing down, and I can feast my eyes on his arsehole winking at me while it gets a short back and sides.

At this rate I’ll have to clear all the crap off my kitchen table and start eating like a civilised human again.

AIBU, or are adverts getting increasingly foul?

You’re not being unreasonable. When you don’t watch tv habitually it’s quite a shock to see the ads get progressively more graphic and distasteful.

There are just so many of them now. I’m only mid-thirties so it feels a bit strange to be talking about lowering of standards like my grandmother used to, but we simply don’t seem to have any standards at all anymore. So many ads are just disgusting. The period ones are absolutely vile. Everyone knows what towels do, why do we need to be shown in graphic detail how much more absorbent one type is? And the pampers ones describing poonamis are foul 🤢🤮

The dancing Pepso Bismol people. “Diarrhoea!”

This one! If ever an advert has the opposite effect of making me want to buy it it’s this one!!

I fucking LOVE that advert. That Welsh bloke in pink clutching his arse in a massively camp manner!

Moonlightdust · 21/09/2025 10:13

BlueEyedBogWitch · 21/09/2025 08:35

Yes! Foul!

I absolutely hate this one! With all the kids harmoniously singing “Pooooooo”! 🤦‍♀️

MyOtherProfile · 21/09/2025 10:13

For some reason instead of ads I just get a blank square that says advertisement but my worst previously was a little toddler peeing on a sofa!

DiscoBob · 21/09/2025 10:14

There's one for bog rolls that's really disturbing.

This chubby kid on a hoverboard or something leaving an exam room to the sounds of drum and bass, clutching a bog roll and making his way to the toilets. While a choir all sing out the word 'pooooo' in unison. 🤢🤣

GiraffesAtThePark · 21/09/2025 10:18

I remember the complaints from feminist sites I used to follow, complaining about the blue liquid instead of red. Thinking back that’s one of those examples that show how some just focus on the frivolous things that don’t really matter. For a start, they used that blue liquid in nappy adverts too so it was less a feminist issue and more not wanting to show bodily liquids. Not everyone wants to see that.

Amasinglelady · 21/09/2025 10:20

I haven't read every post but agree with the dozens of comments I did read. Not a bodily function one but the character/ad I currently can't stand is

Buffet Boy. He's gross. 🤮

NeverDropYourMooncup · 21/09/2025 10:22

researchers3 · 21/09/2025 09:21

How is it undignified to discuss periods? Is it undignified to discuss migraines, or a bad back?

I'm glad the world has moved on - for some of us.

Suppose it depends upon whether you're a teenage girl with a pack of teenage boys going 'Stick it up there' and 'what else can you get up there?' at you or not, I guess. Adults can discuss whatever they want, but those adverts really sound like they were written by somebody with a particular interest, just as the 'coy, oh what a silly girl I am, I weed myself' adverts for continence products do.

Mind you, there's also the bloke in a dog suit assaulting a woman in a deodorant ad that's supposed to be funny and one of the bloke shaving his bollocks adverts is supposed to be for pizza, as the delivery bloke appears in a drawer and looks straight up at them - like magical underskirting for males.

Compared to all of those, an advert of a man and his partner looking happy in the morning in an advert for ED medication is totally inoffensive and a damn sight subtler than any of those.

I didn't even understand what they were singing at first

Nanny0gg · 21/09/2025 10:25

I remember the days when adverts were often funny or actually witty.

Those days won't come back. They'd actually have to pay for decent writers

Greysowhat · 21/09/2025 10:30

Those poonami ads which thankfully seem to be gone now. Who want's to to be eyeballed by a baby while they are having a massive shit. ?

UnctuousUnicorns · 21/09/2025 10:30

Bringyourfoldingchair · 21/09/2025 09:01

Yes I agree. Some are disgusting. The one with people spraying deodorant on their arses is revolting. Slightly off topic, but also Sabrina Carpenters song about tears dripping down her thighs makes me gag. Boke.

Is that what she's singing? I thought it was "tears drip down both eyes"!🤷‍♀️

Talking of gross lyrics, I have to mute or switch off/over when whatserface comes on the radio with his "Baby, I gotta little bit of sick on my jeans..." No, fuck off; it's 10 in the morning, I'm sitting with a nice cup of tea, I don't wanna know, thank you very much. Ditto that one about holding his girlfriend's hair back while she... Just no. There is no place for that on my radio, not now, not ever.

cantthinkofanythingelse · 21/09/2025 10:31

Not just adverts that now show “too much” but I can’t stand it when I’m watching tv and they show someone vomiting. Not just the sound or rushing to the bathroom but actually seeing it. Can nothing be left to our imagination these days?

EnfysPreseli · 21/09/2025 10:33

DaffodilValley · 21/09/2025 10:01

It’s a duck, but yes.
It may be a good idea (like anti-acids, incontinence pads and deodorant), but that doesn’t mean we have to see it multiple times on every thread on the forum to the exclusion of everything else.

It utterly turns my stomach and it is massively counterproductive if they want people to use the forum. It’s the same as the other disgusting adverts we are talking about here, while they get attention they put people off both the product and the platform they are shown on.

In the case of MN I don’t understand why this one advert is so ubiquitous and constant, and nobody has been able to explain it or offer a solution despite several requests for help with it.

There is definitely a move towards unpleasant, shocking adverts rather than appealing ones these days - I don’t understand it.

I've haven't seen anything other than ads for classy clothing brands I'll never be able to afford and the occasional eBay or M&S ad for years on MN.

GertieLawrence · 21/09/2025 10:33

Joyunlimited · 21/09/2025 09:59

I always wonder whether the actors regret it, when their friends and family constantly rib them about it.

They should watch Kath and Kim - seeing Kath and Kel advertising those incontinence pads would put anyone off 😂

Namechanged555 · 21/09/2025 10:33

I couldn’t stand the diarrhoea one but then I think I have recognised a relative in it. I hate the haribo child voices one. I hate one where a load of people are playing basketball and guy starts singing ‘I see you ok’ then it gets faster and faster. Not sure why I hate that one but It has to be muted. The Tesco one where they suddenly scream ‘I got the power’ I hate that. The ‘bulky pee pants’ one is just so unnecessary. I can’t stand the poor donkeys one it just goes on and on. Also the poor children with hair lips it’s just on and on and on.

doistayordoigo · 21/09/2025 10:34

I think people are forgetting we used to have much more graphic adverts with kids getting run over on the railway lines or drowning in quarries that were shown regularly. Personally I'd rather have the jaunty Pepto Bismol ad. The KFC one though is properly weird and makes no actual sense.

Teenagequeenwithaloadedgun · 21/09/2025 10:34

YANBU. There's an advert at the moment for Tena lady and it's just close ups of women's crotches while they prance around. I don't want to see minges.

Enigma54 · 21/09/2025 10:34

Bring back the R Whites lemonade and flake ads, all is forgiven! 🤣

Yes, agreed. And weeing.

Graphic depictions of bodily functions seem to be shorthand for ‘gritty’ drama.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 21/09/2025 10:40

I couldn't agree more OP. It seems that every middle aged woman is going around piddling herself. And those awful ads showing period blood, we all know it's blood ffs and we know what absorbant means, we don't need a demo. The awful poonami ones really annoys me. What a stupid word..it also advertises that the child won't wake you when they have a filthy nappy so basically encouraging parents to leave a child for hours in a foul nappy. The deodorant one for our genitals, they can F off, the ones showing people grooming their pubic area, literally showing a person shaving down there.

In the era where TV ads have less impact they used to have it seems like madness, I am more likely to forward these awful offensive ads than watch them. Surely the aim is an ad that people like and encourages them to buy the product? I am much more likely to avoid a product cos of an offensive ad.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 21/09/2025 09:51

I find that advert quite funny. It’s not really gross as they are just dancing and the way the song ‘Diarrhoea’ does its job as the song sticks in your head.

I always wonder how the actors feel doing that and whether their soul is dying inside as they clutch their arse and gurn at the camera

"3 years at drama school and massive debt for this"
