Did something go wrong here? Surely that wasn't how that was meant to go?

It's crazy. Our beloved king behind the president! I didn't vote Brexit just for this to happen.

frozendaisy · 17/09/2025 13:52

This was explained when he visited the Queen, the royal protocol is to gesture to guests to go first. As much as I don't like the man, it's incorrect to think he isn't following the 'normal' royal house 'rules' for visiting VIPs.

LadyDanburysHat · 17/09/2025 13:54

Trump also just marched ahead of the Queen last time. The man has no class, hardly surprising.

,"Didn't vote Brexit " what are you talking about 😂😂

IDontLikePinaColadas · 17/09/2025 13:56

Looking at the footage the King seemed to invite him to lead and stepped back to allow him to go ahead. Maybe this was a pre-emptive move following him walking in front of the late Queen a few years ago.

Yes this, he has no manners or any sense of others he is a guest and he just marches on, the man is a.bafoon

SeaAndStars · 17/09/2025 13:58

Perhaps Charles wanted to have a laugh at the back of Trumps Mr Whippy hair.

Edited

Perhaps they do this with all guests, but all of them other than Trump, would ensure they stayed by the side of their host, rather than march on.

Coffeeishot · 17/09/2025 13:59

Although when Macron visited he also was invited to walk in front, maybe its an etiquette thing ?

NoelFurlong · 17/09/2025 13:59

Meh. He’s a president so equally important, surely? At least he was actually elected.

araiwa · 17/09/2025 14:01

Would you let Trump be behind you?

I'd wanna keep an eye on him

OMG. And WTAF. What on earth does Brexit have to do with the UK and the US?

Risible.

I've just seen the moment they all meet, and Milania didn't curtsey - surely she should have?

Perhaps she's so full of botox she's no longer able to bend at the knee.

Only if she wants to. Nobody has to and there's even less expectation for non-UK citizens. I wouldn't.

On Americast yesterday they interviewed the last UK ambassador to the US before Mandelson who organised Trump's first state visit. He said Trump was actually really into the protocol and wanted to get it right.

CurlewKate · 17/09/2025 14:08

He’s a HofS- aren’t they equals?

I .think Melania just hates life and has checked out and couldn't give a flying feck about curtseying! OR shes mortified about the Windsor castle projection.

NoSoapJustUseShowerGel · 17/09/2025 14:11

Yabu for using "[statement rather than question], no?"
I absolutely hate this current trend in speaking/writing.

Americans don't curtsey to monarchs, why would they? America is a republic founded on the principle of equality (yeah I know only equality for some !!) but that is the reason, they don't curtsey and aren't required to.

The original would have, body double is still learning all the protocol for foreign visits.

If they are not required to, then that's probably why although most foreign female visitors might as it seen as respectful.

That's actually the correct order. The guest beign honoured with a State Visit goes first.
