Did something go wrong here? Surely that wasn't how that was meant to go?

Meh. He’s a president so equally important, surely? At least he was actually elected.

Not in this country he isn’t.

Needmorelego · 17/09/2025 16:48

I have a fondness for Camilla. I always think she seems quite jolly. I hope she takes Melania out for a bit of fun. Maybe hat shopping or something.

Camilla will take her out into the back garden with a bottle of gin and 20 Rothmans I expect.

Everyone is letting the ego maniac have his party.

We can do pageantary and pomp until he agrees not to bankrupt the country through tariffs or nuke the planet. Everyone knows he is an pompous brat who needs to be pampered and treated like midas or his fragile ego might be unleashed. Better this than having to make trade agreements.

We might get our own version if people vote for Farage. Imagine that.

That sounds better.
Melania always looks sad. She needs a bit of fun.

It's protocol for the visiting dignatory to take the lead when inspecting the troops. Just learnt this from Sky. Every day is a school day Grin

Omg, really? What do you think Charles is (other than hugely privileged by the accident of birth)? I couldn't give a crap if he walks behind anyone.

RuttleTuttle · 17/09/2025 17:00

Here is Obama marching ahead of the Duke of Edinburgh (the Queen was not able to do the walking that day).

So ill mannered!

I've just seen the moment they all meet, and Milania didn't curtsey - surely she should have?

Good for her. Why on earth would she?

I cringe when I see anyone curtsey, especially Kate who’s so terribly goody two shoes about it.

It's crazy. Our beloved king behind the president! I didn't vote Brexit just for this to happen.

Yes, our royal family are selected by God unlike the President who was only selected by millions of Americans.

Totally. She does every single day that she sees her her own FIL. It just looks ridiculous. And then she gets loads of praise online for executing flawless curtsies in the ridiculously high heels she chooses to wear. Make me cringe so much.

All Heads of State and their spouses have the same diplomatic rank. Bowing or curtseying from one to another is not strictly proper.

Also as stated above, Americans may prefer not to bow or curtsey as a matter of principle, and the Palace has always made it clear that bowing and curtseying to royalty is optional. But, one suspects, appreciated.

Well, fuck that.

I have more dignity than to bow to anyone. What lickspittle forelock-tugger would bow to someone who got their ultimate nepo-job because their Mum had it?

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 17/09/2025 17:13

Overtheatlantic · 17/09/2025 16:40

I’m fairly certain that Americans don’t bow or curtsy to royalty. They earned the right not to.

I'm British and I wouldn't either - we are not required to, we're not subjects. I'm not bowing and scraping just because some toff thundered out of some other toff's cock. They can have a polite handshake like anyone else.

Why bow and scrape to them. They really aren’t better than anyone else.

Momtotwokids · 17/09/2025 17:16

First King Charles had him walk first. We are Americans we don't bow nor curtsy to anyone

Yes this, he has no manners or any sense of others he is a guest and he just marches on, the man is a.bafoon

A bafoon?? Is that like a baboon with a speech impairment? (Although I suppose orangutan is a more appropriate colour for Trump.)

Nice try. Trump is clearly having an honour put around his neck, there. Hence he is bending down. Not bowing.

Orangepate · 17/09/2025 17:30

Melania looks to me like she has been lobotomised, either physically or chemically.
I wonder if that woman will ever get to tell her true story?

Dartmoorcheffy · 17/09/2025 17:33

I wouldn't want to walk along with trump, hes at a high risk of someone taking him out with a bullet

IdaGlossop · 17/09/2025 17:38

smallpinecone · 17/09/2025 14:42

Misogynistic comment, nice.

She wore a pencil skirt. Had she curtsied, it would have ripped.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 17/09/2025 17:44

I'm absolutely not a fan of Trump, can't stand the man but he was invited to inspect the Guards or whatever they're called and Charles definitely stepped back.

SanPellegrinOh · 17/09/2025 17:45

F'king ooompaloompa - what a joke

American HofSs don’t come to coronations. Presumably they don’t bow or curtsey either. Quite right too. The only right thing about this whole pantomime. Although I did hear someone on the radio say that at least this way he’ll be contained and London won’t be disrupted. Which is a good point.
