Did something go wrong here? Surely that wasn't how that was meant to go?

Yet uses very pale make up on the back of his hands, especially his right hand. Have you noticed that when sitting at the desk in the Oval Office, he sits with hands on desk left hand on top of right.

He has bruises from some IV fluids. The White House said that this bruising is caused by hand shaking. BS. Even doctors think this is a wild idea

I've had bruises from handshaking.

Bloody hate doing it, but some people just don't care and grab your hand anyway - the ex used to do it as one of those 'I'm an Alpha Male' shite things and deliberately tried to hurt anybody in the process; wouldn't be surprised if that's tried on Trump (or he tries to do it to others and lost this time, tbh).

Why did Melania remove her hat indoors? Rude

She probably couldn't get through the door with it on.
She does like giant brims !

I try to spend as little time as possible looking at, or listening to, Donald Trump so I hadn't noticed that, but that explanation certainly sounds like a steaming pile of bullshit, yes.

He claims he is 6ft 3. Guess who he saw today and is of that height? William. He is about 5ft 11.5. Trump may have been 6ft 3 at his tallest. Does not understand that people shrink

Plus he claims to be 215lb - 15st 5lb. More like 300lb - 21st 6lb

I wouldn't believe Trump if he told me tomorrow is Thursday.

I’m fairly certain that Americans don’t bow or curtsy to royalty. They earned the right not to.

Quite. They actually went to war to ensure they never had to genuflect to the British monarch ever again.

It's almost like some people don't have a fucking clue about history. Honestly I despair, sometimes.

The history between the US and Britain is lacking. You lost the war

Not that it actually matters and I'm no fan of Trump at all. But he can't be 5'11.5. Melania is 5'11 and always wear quite high heels. And she's still shorter than Trump.

If he is 6 ft 3 then his son Barron must be about 8 ft tall.
Have you seen him. He's giant!

6ft 9

6ft 9

That is tall !
I think he looks longer because he's a slim lad.
Unlike his dad who is potato shape.

It's crazy. Our beloved king behind the president! I didn't vote Brexit just for this to happen.

Maybe not, but we are rather isolated now!

araiwa · 17/09/2025 14:01

Would you let Trump be behind you?

I'd wanna keep an eye on him

Very true!! Urgh him anywhere near me!!

Friendlygingercat · 17/09/2025 20:38

The reason that Melania did not curtsy is that you do not pay a greater reverence to a foreign head of state than you do your own. All this will have been worked out by cultural attaches before the visit.

Americans dont have royalty so its not their custom to curtsy. Their diplomatic protocol emphasizes equality of greeting between heads of state. Curtseying would be seen as showing subservience. They generally just bow the head a little and shake hands. An American woman would not curtsy to the president so she is not going to curtsy to another head of state. This is why American film stars presented to Queen Elizabeth II often simply bowed when others in the line made a curtsy.

Curtsying is deeply rooted in British tradition but now considered optional here, even when you meet the king. A slight bow of the head is considered sufficient. Many people dont know how to curtsy properly anyway. You dont have to go right down, as Mrs Thatcher did. Just a backward step and a slight dip. Its called a "bob" curtsy. (I used to do amateur dramatics with a lot of Shakespearean stuff).

They will be genuflecting to Trump shortly, I imagine.

zebrastripesarefun · 17/09/2025 21:01

President Trump was supposed to walk in front of King Charles. This has been broadcast throughout the day. Seemingly its protocol

Bubbles90 · 18/09/2025 22:14

Apparently this is exactly how it is supposed to be and it was the same with Queen Elizabeth. The monarch invites the visitor to inspect the guards so the visitor goes ahead of the monarch.

fastingforweightloss · 17/09/2025 14:03

I've just seen the moment they all meet, and Milania didn't curtsey - surely she should have?

No. It's not an expectation. Most people don't, nowadays, rightly.

LactoseTolerant · 18/09/2025 22:40

It looks like he is just following protocol.

However even if he wasn't when we have got so many genuine and significant reasons to detest him is it worth getting worked up about this? I never get why people make fun of his skin colour and his hands either. I mean the guy is an absolute gold mine for comedians why to go for the non consequential stuff?
