Did something go wrong here? Surely that wasn't how that was meant to go?

American HofSs don’t come to coronations. Presumably they don’t bow or curtsey either. Quite right too. The only right thing about this whole pantomime. Although I did hear someone on the radio say that at least this way he’ll be contained and London won’t be disrupted. Which is a good point.

They've done that on purpose. To prevent him being faced with demonstrations.

SummerCanDoOne · 17/09/2025 17:51

It bothers me more that we're entertaining this prize arsehole with a state visit and rolling out the red carpet for him tbh.

I'm no monarchist but had a soft spot for Kate and Wills but the fact they're involved in the farce has made me rethink.

Well, yes. But it’s the RF earning their money for once. And on this one occasion I’m glad we’ve got them!

Well you can blame Starmer for this one. Trump already had one last time he was President, no need for another one.

Kate and Wills have to do their job.

I've just seen the moment they all meet, and Milania didn't curtsey - surely she should have?

Americans are not supposed to bow or curtsy for Royalty. It's a big thing here. It's got something to do with 1776 or something, lol.

CameForAVacationStayedForTheRevolution · 17/09/2025 18:06

Ultimately the purpose of this whole visit is to stroke his ego and send him back to America in a good mood about the U.K. as this will be beneficial next time he’s having a tantrum about tariffs, etc.

Aerom · 17/09/2025 18:07

Trump pisses me off - he should follow the monarch/president/prime minister/other top role of the country he is visiting. He did the same during his first state visit with our late QE2.

Shows you that that orange lying buffoon does what he bloody pleases.

Did you see Camila's side glance earlier? She was thinking "when is he going to sod off?"

Everything Trump sat, slept, breathed on will need to be fumigated and perhaps a deep clean as he stinks of soiled nappies.

I think Trump makes the rules. Different monarch, a new state visit.

Shame they didn’t send Andy out to meet him and chat about old times.

No, this one's on Starmer, and him alone. Sucking up to Trump.

It was good, strategic diplomacy from Starmer. Trump is despicable, but Europe is completely in hock to the US militarily, and Putin is invading NATO airspace in the East. We need to keep Trump on side because he admires Putin so much. Europe has two Trump cards, as it were - the Nobel Peace Prize, and the British royal family.

Sigh. Think what you like about Trump, but photo evidence (already posted to this thread) shows that every single leader inspects the troops in front of the monarch.

It's crazy. Our beloved king behind the president! I didn't vote Brexit just for this to happen.

Are you on glue?! 😂

Looking at the footage the King seemed to invite him to lead and stepped back to allow him to go ahead. Maybe this was a pre-emptive move following him walking in front of the late Queen a few years ago.

This seems a good explanation. The king is extremely astute and doesn’t suffer fools so he would have always have been one step ahead of any tricks Trumps felt like pulling!

Gah! I am going to have to step away from this thread. The state guest always inspects the troops in front of the monarch.

Or do you think that Obama and Macron were going to "pull some tricks" too?!

KarmaComingToGetYaSweetCheeks · 17/09/2025 18:32

I wonder if Melania removed her wide brimmed hat when they had their lunch.

This. The king gestured for Trump to go first.

And you manage to know nothing about State Visit protocol.

I don’t think that makes a difference to my post!

Trump was definitely not supposed to cut right in front of the late queen. He doesn’t have to walk right in front of his own wife. I don’t really care about protocol, my point is that he always manages to look impolite and inconsiderate.

Someone needs to teach him how to blend. Must say, it's impressive that his shirt collar never seems to be orange.

Yet uses very pale make up on the back of his hands, especially his right hand. Have you noticed that when sitting at the desk in the Oval Office, he sits with hands on desk left hand on top of right.

He has bruises from some IV fluids. The White House said that this bruising is caused by hand shaking. BS. Even doctors think this is a wild idea

I try to spend as little time as possible looking at, or listening to, Donald Trump so I hadn't noticed that, but that explanation certainly sounds like a steaming pile of bullshit, yes.

Aerom · 17/09/2025 19:30

Why did Melania remove her hat indoors? Rude
