I find it very cringy, it would put me off my husband if I found out he was mumsnetting 😖

Well exactly. Who would be attracted to any man who wants to learn more about being a parent?

TruckDiver · 05/09/2025 20:27

Not keen on male posters, it's' always obvious who's not female.

How can you possibly know that? The ones you notice may be obvious, but if a male person is pretending to be female and succeeding at it, then you won't notice, will you?

The men who use the sex topic for wank fodder and send pervy PMs to any woman who posts on there, have made that topic completely unusable for any woman who has a genuine problem regarding sex.

So men on MN are a problem.

I've had a pm when I used the name joylovejoyinorbit.
I rebuffed his advances for my username is a Northern soul record and I'm male.
I've been on MN for about five years I don't feel the need to announce I'm a male nor do I pretend to be female.I mention my Dw where applicable.
There are creepy posts lately night I've reported a fair few and I've no interest in sex board.

EchoedSilence · 05/09/2025 20:29

I just ignore the men on here and it's usually pretty obvious which users are men. Even the ones pretending to be women so they can discuss womens knickers and big tits.

GreenFlag · 05/09/2025 20:33

Why don’t you start your own forum for women only OP?

Didimum · 05/09/2025 20:37

EchoedSilence · 05/09/2025 20:22

Do women send you pervy Pms on AIBU? I doubt it.

I didn’t say they did? Irrelevant to my comment.

One pervy PM is one too many. The men who think they can just send their disgusting PMs to women on here can fuck off.

I agree with you,I was taken aback at getting a pm and iirc it was a benign topic nothing remotely sexual.

These posts always drive me to despair. There's no way of verifying anyone's guesses or suspicions either way.

It's unlikely anyone would lie or assume whatever tone they think the opposite sex would use in order to keep up a fake persona, but it could happen.

I'm fairly sure that MRA types are usually men, but I can't be certain.

If a woman wanted to wind up and provoke a long thread they could do it by posting MRA/ incel nonsense. (Among other ways, obviously! )

That's why I try to respond to the content of the post rather than what I imagine the poster's character or demographic is.

Luckily I've never had a pervy PM and I would hope any perpetrators are kicked off the site.

TinyTempest · 05/09/2025 21:07

Only this morning I and a few posters on the LGBT parents topic reported a poster called Blaze5shine for sending pervy messages and spamming the boards, asking to meet up with other lesbian mothers.

They said they're female but again, who knows? 🤷‍♂️

Dailyncwympo · 05/09/2025 21:08

Yep, loathe them and hate that there are so many on here.

Mumsnet has never claimed to be a female only space. Men have always posted on here. It is foremost a parenting website.

I think at the beginning it was only for mums. A space for women to discuss issues pertaining to women. Certainly when I was first on here there weren't any men. At least, we didn't know they were, if they were. I think men are attracted to MN by the intelligent discussion.

whenimnotcleaningwindows · 05/09/2025 21:31

It's hard to know which are AI, trolls or just men being men sometimes.
Often they can be useful but you can tell when they weigh in on threads with "why did she not just say no?" or "she did it for the money" it's a man. I do try to ignore on the whole but now and then I'll bite especially when I'm due on 'cos of them hormones, innit 😉

loathe what? men? just because they're men? why?

Didimum · 05/09/2025 21:39

The level of denial by some on here on who this website is ‘for’ is truly weird.

Mumsnet didn’t appear from the ether cosmically bestowed on those with a vagina.

It’s a commercial enterprise and is for whoever its creators say it’s for.

vinegarforeverything · 05/09/2025 22:10

I bet there's no women on Dadsnet is there.

Why is that then?

There are women who post in the dadsnet topic on mumsnet. Is that what you mean?

That's true. I've seen a few threads asking for 'male perspective' etc.

brunettemic · 05/09/2025 23:20

Given some of the absolute batshit women in here I quite enjoy them balancing things out.

NoThanksNeeded · 05/09/2025 23:30

roseclouds · 05/09/2025 17:52

well I havent ever seen a woman do this, only men so far. I wonder why that is.....

How do you actually know the sex of any poster?

POTC · 05/09/2025 23:33

As someone who grew up in a house with only my dad as parent, I think it's fantastic there are dads here. If mine had been able to ask advice from mumsnet, the life of him, me, and my siblings would have benefited hugely. Asking advice of dadsnet wouldn't have helped when there are so few dads in that situation

TheWorminLabyrinth · 05/09/2025 17:28

It is entirely justified though. Men hate women. If they could be sexually attracted to each other, and exploit the labour of each other, then they wouldn't form relationships with women. Lucky they have you defending them though Hmm

(Absolutely no need for the NAMALT/Not My Nigel brigade to tell me how wrong I am).

I’m not defending anyone, simply saying that broad hatred of any single group is really thick.

what is your evidence for saying “men hate women”? And don’t trot out the bullshit “victims of violence line” because it’s dumb. The people most likely to fall victim to male violence are men. So how does that tally with your view that men would marry men if they could?

it’s just a really thick argument that I’m fed up with seeing. I am a feminist, doesn’t mean I hate men and the views you promote give rational women a bad name.

Then It shouldn't be called mumsnet.

Newsflash - no one has had a carphone in the last 30 years.

But they still talk about “Justine” like she’s their mate.
