AIBU to say it isn't unexpected, or a surprise?

Typical leftie socialist. You couldn’t make this shit up.

And these lefties teach morals to the rest of us, pretending to be all virtuous and superior.

@KhakiTiger Why do you talk like this?

Like what?

Is that really, exactly what she did?

I think she thought putting her share of the property into trust would mean her new flat was her sole property. But as she managed the trust she was wrong.

I honestly don't think anyone explained that properly to her.

…..it just gets worse.

Hmm, she's suspiciously financially astute at selling houses when it means money in her pocket, isn't she? And yet, somehow innocently naive at selling houses when she's hoping to scam the system.

Funny that.

It takes an hour on the train from Hove to central London. Not an impossible commute.

I know that commute - it’s one hour into London Bridge - at best. Assuming no foul ups.

You have then got to get to Westminster….

Unfortunately her performance at building houses mirrored the latter.

She just said lawyers. By their denial those lawyers outed themselves and threw themselves under the bus.

You really have no clue. Any half decent journalist could have easily found out which 'lawyers' she used.

And her lawyers couldn't have thrown themselves under the bus because they hadn't actually done anything wrong.

Must be so disappointing to find out your working class heroine is every bit as self serving and venal as the Tories she has emulated despised.

In which case they couldn’t be thrown under the bus at all. 🤷‍♀️

Yes, I’m disappointed but she’ll be back. You can’t keep a good woman down.

shamble · 06/09/2025 18:24

Jesus Christ this thread is so depressing. The double standards here are laughable. Why is everyone crowing about the downfall of this woman? I can’t stand the vitriol in this country at the moment. It’s sickening.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 06/09/2025 18:25

EasternStandard · 06/09/2025 16:41

If she hadn’t tried to use the excuse and pass the buck she might have survived.

It's possible I suppose, EasternStandard, but I can't quite see government advisers - faced with a mess like this to clear up - to care a damn about the reputations of others who have nothing to do with them

I obviously can't know this, but IMO it's equally likely that Rayner had a lot more going on than we're aware of, and the resignation was a part of the deal to keep a lid on it

It’s natural to like seeing wrong doers go down.

Do you remember the Dominic Cummings threads? Now that was a rejoicing.

Cue the gloating. I look forward to Farage resigning due to the house in Clacton registered in his partner's name in order to avoid stamp duty payments.

You reap what you sow.....unless your a concealed RW nut job then it will be he's just doing what we all would ain't he guvnor

She’s stuck the boot into others, perhaps you did too. It comes back to bite.

shamble · 06/09/2025 18:33

Nothing on partygate?

PropertyD · 06/09/2025 18:39

She isnt a good women! She was someone who was caught out and tried to take others down with her.

Its nothing to do with her being a women, someone from the North, working class or what ever other excuse some on this thread are trying to use.

She was SO vocal about others and now has been caught out herself. Hand in the cookie jar comes to mind.

BIossomtoes · 06/09/2025 18:40

She didn’t try to take anyone down with her.

Rayner has proved herself to be a self serving hypocrite most people do not regard people like this as being good

the very people she always challenged., the people she wanted to bring down

she isn’t that smart of a politician, as once again she has proved, to turn this around

and she was never PM material so thankfully that avenue is now closed but the left of the party certainly would have tried they never learn from their failure’s

Maybe Corbyn will forgive her and she can go and join his new revolution planning party

I guess her future shall be where the money is …. She will be good at that

Fucketydodah · 06/09/2025 18:55

Some really horrid comments here. Strange isn’t it how a working class woman is treated so differently…. the sexist vitriol she had had to deal with over the years sickens me. And those commenting that she is “thick”, is that a comment on her accent? It can’t possibly be on her achievements can it?!!!

You maybe need to hunt out the threads about the Tory men. There is a LOT more sympathy on here for Rayner.

What she did truly wasn’t smart, completely objectively.

MellersSmellers · 06/09/2025 19:05

Yes she had to go once the Standards Commissioners report came out but I'm sad and disappointed. I thought she had the life experience, energy and determination to really tackle the dreadful housing crisis that the Tories left us with.
I think many on here don't quite understand what the issue was! her crime was that she didn't seek specialist advice to confirm what she was told (twice) by non tax/Trust specialists. I wonder how many of us might have been similarly caught out??
I hope Farage receives the same scrutiny and press hounding for his tax avoidance tactics.

Freysimo · 06/09/2025 19:06

Why does she need a flat in Hove anyway? She had grace and favour place in London and home in her constituency.

I have a strong Barnsley accent. I’m also a working class woman. I think Angela Rayner is thick because I think she’s thick. Nothing to do with her accent, which is clearer than mine, nothing to do with the fact she used to be working class because I am working class and nothing to do with her chromosomes. Having said that, her intellect is akin to Professor Brian Cox when compared to David Lammy.

i think anyone with a grain of optimism is sad and disappointed - other than weird people online most people want the government whatever colour to make the country better.

As a minister though you have to be more careful than everyone else. It’s as simple as that.

Freud2 · 06/09/2025 19:13

Farage may be avoiding tax as most people would do. Its perfectly legal. Tax evasion isn't.
