AIBU to say it isn't unexpected, or a surprise?

Well now that's over let's see the media go after Farage with the same venom. Let's see wall to wall coverage of his last property scam.

EasternStandard · 05/09/2025 12:13

Yanbu, good

I must admit, I feel quite saddened by Angela Rayner’s resignation.

While she wasn’t without her flaws, she brought a rare combination of authenticity, working-class credibility, and conviction to frontline politics — qualities that are increasingly scarce.

Her departure raises genuine concerns about the future direction of the party. Without her voice, there’s a real risk that Labour may drift further toward the centre-right.

The sustained campaign from sections of the right-wing press to discredit her has clearly taken its toll. It’s a sobering and disturbing reminder of the influence the media can wield in shaping narratives.

FiloPasty · 05/09/2025 12:13

I hope Bridget is next!

noworklifebalance · 05/09/2025 12:13

She was always going to go in this manner - the problem with being in opposition is that it is so easy to point out the failings of those in office. And then you get into office…

PropertyD · 05/09/2025 12:14

I bet that convayancing firm's phone was red hot yesterday with various Cabinet and government calls to them probably asking her to wait until the report. Quite rightly they decided that wasnt going to do them any good.

KimberleyClark · 05/09/2025 12:15

Sad that she has had to go, but at the same time find it refreshing. It’s not so long ago we had a government who refused to resign over anything.

Authenticity 🤣🤣🤣

PropertyD · 05/09/2025 12:15

What did someone once say ' all polictical careers end in failure'.

EffinMagicFairy · 05/09/2025 12:15

Good but she should have been sacked.

ajandjjmum · 05/09/2025 12:15

She's always been so quick to call others out, but didn't she also get some clothes from the guy who pays for Kier's wardrobe? Not so slow on the uptake is Ange!

Bodypumpmum · 05/09/2025 12:15

Best news all week! Buh bye!!!

Kulwinder54 · 05/09/2025 12:15

Feel sorry for her only because she is unfortunately pretty dumb...she was promoted well above her abilities.

Tbf, she only has herself to blame
on this esp if she was claiming different properties as her primary residence. She knew what she was doing.

ilovesooty · 05/09/2025 12:09

Cue the gloating. I look forward to Farage resigning due to the house in Clacton registered in his partner's name in order to avoid stamp duty payments.

That’s not the issue though. He’s done nothing wrong. the house is owned by his girlfriend. Lots of people plan their tax affairs that way. You might not like good tax planning but it’s legal. he never owed any tax on that. She did however.

Good on the MD for putting out a statement

What an insult to the working class.

authentic? She is anything but authentic, you think the way she used her son’s disability was ‘authentic’?

The press haven't discredited her, she’s done it herself.

WildCats24 · 05/09/2025 12:18

She’s in the Find Out phase of FAFO. Fingers crossed Nigel’s next…

PropertyD · 05/09/2025 12:18

She got greedy and thought the rules werent for her. Got her snout in the trough. Even her leaving statement says she is doing it for her children (whilst moving 100's of miles away from them).

Someone on a previous thread stated that maybe she brought it so that her chidlren could have holidays by the seaside!

She moved to Hove because her boyfriend and his ex wife and children lived there. Nothing to do with her children.

IdaGlossop · 05/09/2025 12:18

This had to happen. She is surrounded by chaos that she has created. It's a massive mess. Time and time again, this Labour government has shown itself to be incapable of standing back and seeing how things look. Despite this, I am very sorry for her because it takes guts to have the start in life that she had and achieve what she has done. It's terrible news for Labour and weakens an already stumbling UK.

Slabberon · 05/09/2025 12:18

It’s a shame because I do think she’s a good person and we need more WC politicians, but it was inevitable - she was either a bit dim, which I doubt, or taking advantage of a way to pay less tax and that really isn’t on.
The rest of us mugs pay our tax and are seldom troubled with the complications of what to do with our extra houses…

Bagsintheboot · 05/09/2025 12:18

It was probably inevitable.

I'm neither sad nor happy about her leaving, I don't really care either way tbh, but I am a chartered tax advisor and I won't touch SDLT with a barge pole because frankly it's a complete bastard. I see an awful lot of people get caught out.

What? That’s so insulting to hard working and tax paying members of society!

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 05/09/2025 12:19

I’m surprised she actually went. I thought she’d hang on for dear life.

No loss.
