AIBU to say it isn't unexpected, or a surprise?

If we'd listened to Lammy on Brexit the country would be a lot richer.

I'd be very happy to see him in charge.

The man who thinks you can grow a cervix 🤣

If we'd listened to a lot of people re Brexit the country would be a lot richer. It's not as if Lammy was the sole voice of reason.

The man is a buffoon. I wouldn't give him too much credit for his views on Brexit. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

She got advice which turned out to be inaccurate. I’m with you that she should have followed the additional advice to get another piece of advice, but it’s really pushing it to say it was a lie to say the advice she had was wrong/bad.

The advice she received was to get further specialist advice due to the complex nature of her situation. She didn't follow the advice.

Shame. NOT. Never was too keen on her. I don't like her replacement though.

WarmWasabi · 05/09/2025 18:02

Please can someone clarify, if she took her money out of her son’s house, how is the flat not her primary residence? It’s her son’s house isn’t it?

Seems a shame to lose such a good job over £40k

...and his use of a Nazi era poster, during the Brexit campaign.

And the letter that surfaced a while back, written during his time at private school. .. over teacher's concerns about his extreme racist and neo fascist views.

I mean if educators at one of the most 'prestigious' private schools in England (in the 80s!) are saying you're racist, chances are you're racist. He can't chalk that one up to a 'leftist agenda'.

I must admit, I feel quite saddened by Angela Rayner’s resignation.

While she wasn’t without her flaws, she brought a rare combination of authenticity, working-class credibility, and conviction to frontline politics — qualities that are increasingly scarce.

Her departure raises genuine concerns about the future direction of the party. Without her voice, there’s a real risk that Labour may drift further toward the centre-right.

The sustained campaign from sections of the right-wing press to discredit her has clearly taken its toll. It’s a sobering and disturbing reminder of the influence the media can wield in shaping narratives.

I’m not sure what is authentic about a pro high taxation tax avoider and a supposedly left wing politician with multiple homes. Do her principles only apply to other people and their money. When it comes to her own wealth, she is less keen to share that.

Cue the gloating. I look forward to Farage resigning due to the house in Clacton registered in his partner's name in order to avoid stamp duty payments.

I've no idea if this is true, but he is not the housing minister nor does he make these ridiculous rules.
Rayner helped make these arcane rules yet could not be bothered to follow them.

I hope this happens

Why? What is illegal about it? I think that makes perfect sense to be honest. He just has to trust she doesn’t run away with it since it’s her house!

tax planning within the law is a perfectly normal thing to do.

The people who want to vote for Reform don’t care if people on the left think he is ‘racist’. It’s music to NF’s ears, tbh. This is exactly how he’ll collecting votes

There are lots of crappy and dishonest politicians about.
Start your own post about them.
We are discussing Rayner, a woman who has lived off the public purse all her life and who is dishonest and greedy.

Dymaxion · 05/09/2025 18:10

I really dislike how she always plays the ‘working class I had a child at 16’ card. I am from working class. background, had a child at 17 and worked my way to a senior role (not as senior as her). Does that mean that I don’t have to pay all my tax?

You don't have to pay all your tax if you have the means to pay someone to 'tax plan' for you, which Angela did, plus you would think that at her level of seniority someone would be casting a glance over her finances to prevent this sort of thing occurring ?

She is also, alas, just not intelligent or credible enough to be the Deputy Prime Minister

This, she just comes across as not very good at understanding things and thinking things through (and that is NOT prejudice because she's working-class - plenty of WC politicians have been/are intelligent and astute). That and the constant somewhat suspect-seeming dealings that have finally come back to bite her on the arse and weren't actually just misogyny and classism after all.

Unfortunately Lammy's hardly any better in the nous department. (Love Dead Ringers version of Lammy, it's so spot on.)

I'm constant flabbergasted at how this Labour government have not prioritised rooting out corruption and freebie-bagging and giving the general appearance of being on the take - surely that is just a mindblowingly obvious way to be different from the previous government and gain people's trust?

@ByQuaintAzureWasp
As far as I understand, as a trustee she has a legal duty to the trust.
It seems to be that her son overpaid for his share of the house which could I believe be a criminal offence as she is a trustee

Who, as a mother would ask her disabled child, at not yet 18, to buy a share of his home rather than simply continue to provide a home for him as most mothers on here seem to even for adult DC without his problems?

It's bizarre

Different homes for primary residence for council tax and stamp duty is all ridiculous too.

Her children live with her ex husband in Manchester. She lives in London with a married man. Or she did. They probably live in Hove now!

And when the media finally publishes the truth about Farage, this will be tiny potatoes...

Entirely unrelated, isn't 'I Saw Her Standing There' one of the best Beatles songs?

Does anyone seriously believe that Farage is not a racist?

There was how he was percieved in school by all his peers as a hitler loving, unapologetic racist - https://www.theguardian.com/politics/ng-interactive/2024/jun/14/he-was-a-deeply-unembarrassed-racist-nigel-farage-by-those-who-have-known-him

  • That time that he expressed his "discomfort" at hearing foreign languages
  • His love of Enoch Powell
  • The "Breaking Point" Brexit poster
  • His referral of a "Jewish lobby" and "A New World Order" and other anti-semetic rubbish

He is a clear racist, that tempers his views in public.

The Guardian published one opinion. Other teachers had other opinions, which they didn't print.

1 “foreign” isn't a race. His partner is a foreigner.
2 Corbyn considered Gerry Adams and Hezbollah his friends; does that make him a terrorist? Abbott is consistently anti-white. We have MPs who are more concerned with politics in Gaza than the UK. Is it bad that a politician wants to prevent forced diversity through high immigration, given that politicians around the world largely have that aim?
3 It’s an actual photo. What can be positively spun about the actual photo? Would a different caption have helped, or do you just think that the proles shouldn’t see actual footage of issues?
4 No idea about wither of those, sorry, but given the current administration’s anti-Israel stance are they any better?

Is there a difference between nationalism and racism? Most countries (other than some in the EU) are primarily nationalist. Many countries which are considered stable and successful, such as Japan, Norway, Finland, Iceland, are quite nationalistic first.

Her children live with her ex husband in Manchester. She lives in London with a married man. Or she did. They probably live in Hove now!

No wonder she got confused as to which was her main residence, where she was meant to vote, etc. I agree with a pp though - who sells a share of a house to your child at an inflated price and then moves 100’s of miles away with her latest squeeze?

All the time stating it was her for children…

I was Power of Attorney for both parents. My siblings don’t live in the UK. I asked whether they wanted me to keep careful records of everything spent. They said they trusted me to do the right thing and in the end I did keep records but bless them. Not once did they ever ask to see anything.
