AIBU to say it isn't unexpected, or a surprise?

Remind yourselves who are cheering of all the malpractice of the last 14 years and if you did not condemn - shame on you! She’ll be back. Hounded out because she is female, northern and working class! Time for you to look at Farage’s financial dealings!!

It would make us more like the US, where the centre is more to the right. Reform are more aligned with the Republicans and the Tories are more aligned with the conservatives. There isn't a US party that is the equivalent of hand outs for all left we have here. We need to start incentivising success rather than rewarding failure.

And again, no!
The world is FINITE.
We cannot have exponential GROWTH - it isn't possible.
We need to restructure and start focusing on growing together, not fighting for more more more, but making a world people actually want to live in. Not fight for a future focused on who can afford to leave the planet to live on Mars with Elon fucking Musk.

maltravers · 05/09/2025 13:56

She had a decent size Manchester firm of solicitors on the trust (Shoosmiths I believe) but went to a tiny firm of conveyancers for her stamp duty advice? Then ignored their suggestion to get specialist tax advice. This is the Deputy PM and Housing minister who has past run ins with the media over house flipping and CGT and has hauled others over the coals for not paying their taxes. She had to go imo.

She broke the ministerial code and lied about advice. She had a good gig and blew it.

Cue the gloating. I look forward to Farage resigning due to the house in Clacton registered in his partner's name in order to avoid stamp duty payments.

I doubt it, Teflon Nige. He isn't even in opposition, his party is basically Nigel Farage = Reform - there'll be much less pressure on him than Rayner as Dep PM

I must admit, I feel quite saddened by Angela Rayner’s resignation.

While she wasn’t without her flaws, she brought a rare combination of authenticity, working-class credibility, and conviction to frontline politics — qualities that are increasingly scarce.

Her departure raises genuine concerns about the future direction of the party. Without her voice, there’s a real risk that Labour may drift further toward the centre-right.

The sustained campaign from sections of the right-wing press to discredit her has clearly taken its toll. It’s a sobering and disturbing reminder of the influence the media can wield in shaping narratives.

They didn't have to "attempt to discredit her" she's done that to herself. Her choice, no one else's.

As others have said, from Day 1 of this Labour government it has all been very Animal Farm from most of them but especially from Ms Rayner.

Orwell knew exactly what the left is.

IMHO, the only upside of this is its cemented how much i despise Badenoch.. her behaviour over this after the way her party snivelled, lied, hide, and obfuscated their repeated rule breaking, is absolutely disgusting.

Hollietree · 05/09/2025 14:03

When you are in a position of power like she was, you have to be absolutely squeaky clean.

But when you have built your career on being “one of the people” and spent years and years criticising politicians caught doing similar, demanding their resignations…….. then there is even more reason to make sure you do absolutely everything by the book.

She didn’t do that - she chose to find loopholes to pay less tax and council tax. I’ve never come across a bigger hypocrite.

Nothing about Rayner here. Fancy that.

If I’ve learned anything, it’s never explain what I like about Reform on Mumsnet, unless I want about 6 million email notifications. So that’s it from me. I won’t be responding to questions.

Ah you need an extra email account that you don’t look at.

Jmaho · 05/09/2025 14:05

Good riddance.
I'm staggered by the amount of women both on here and on social media who were backing her just because she's female.
I'm female from a very working class background and I have managed to get myself through life without breaking the law and trying to avoid paying my taxes.
She played the pity card but it didn't work this time. You'd have thought she'd be more careful given the previous fuss around selling her council right to buy property not even a year ago if I remember correctly.

She fiddled her taxes and got caught because the media got hold of it. Then tried to blame her conveyancer!
Shed been so vocal prreviously (not that I disagree with her) about the Tories doing exactly the same things.
She and the rest of the Labour Party are massive hypocrites. Try to make out that they're whiter than white when we've had just over a year of constant scandal and court injunctions covering up their deceit.

Left me in a position where I couldn't vote for a single party.

Rubbish - she was hounded out because she was a lying hypocrite at best who showed no compassion for opposition members who were equally dishonest and hypocritical. Her sex and her social class have fuck all to do with it. Had she been a white, middle class male I’d still have been baying for a resignation this week.

Labour stood on a manifesto that vowed to remove Tory sleaze and MP corruption… so far it has shown itself to be just a lax with the rules and its concept of ‘right’ to be just as liquid. Their conduct is why we’ll end up with a far right party in place next time. They should be ashamed of themselves.

on the same day, we discover Farage - owner of four homes - has been avoiding tax on two fronts: stamp duty via his wife, and undeclared earnings from GB News. Such fucking double standards 🤬😤

Oh, ffs, she has NOT been 'hounded out' because she is female / working class / northern. It is because she is a grifting sleaseball, just like many other politicians.

Does there need to be? She broke the rules, her position became untenable, she resigned.. end of discussion. Should Starmer have fired her? Probably, but he also had every right to wait for the Committees report before making a move.

The telling thing for me has been how everyone else has behaved around it.. including apparently including people in glass houses with very short memories, throwing stones....

Maybe this will be the spark up Labour's arse to actually go after people hoarding all the money?
Might be a bit hard work though. Reeves will probably tax disabled people and kids again instead.

FullOfLemons · 05/09/2025 14:11

I think she has pulled a blinder.

She now avoids the blame for the disasters that will come next e.g. the failure to build the 1.5m homes promised and the forthcoming employment rights and renters reform bills.

She also escapes any scrutiny over her handling of her child’s trust fund which would have truly ended her career.

Instead she will be back in the Cabinet in time for the next election, probably as leader.

EvangelicalAboutButteredToast · 05/09/2025 14:11

Colour be surprised that the rot is in all politics across all political persuasions. In with the next village idiot.
