Just a chat to understand what’s going on with the influx of England and UJ flags all over the streets?

thoughts?
where did it stem from?
is it making you uncomfortable? (It is, me, but not entirely sure why)

There is a smug, left-winger near me who flies a Palestinian flag outside her house. No one complains or criticises her. But when English people fly English flags in England that's a problem. Just let that sink in for a moment.

If Putin launched an attack on Britain tomorrow, those smug, sneering 'progressives,' who find the England flag 'problematic,' would be waving the St George and Union Jack with all their might. And they would demand that the very people they despise go and defend them. Well good luck my friends. My great grandfather was twice wounded in the first world war, and my grandfather fought the Japanese in the second world war, but if there was a war tomorrow, I wouldn't lift the little finger on my right hand to defend this island. I barely even feel British anymore. I have no intention of risking my life to defend a country that hates itself, is ashamed of its history and culture, and has completely lost its identity. All the smug, sneering 'progressives' can go and fight. It's their country now.

You would be first on a boat out of here.

Baffling use of the word “smug” repeatedly in that.

I’d imagine there are very few people who are “smug” about Palestine, too.

Jumpingthruhoops · 30/08/2025 21:43

Presumably they're flying the England and Union Jack flags because they're... in England and the United Kingdom!? 🙄

Honestly, all this being ashamed of/nervous/angry about people displaying our national flag is just ludicrous!

Again - it’s not about the flags, it’s the intent behind spamming them around on lampposts, spraying them on roundabouts and crossings.

The takeover of public property, and the reason behind it is the issue.

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 30/08/2025 22:00

Well I’ve found out why there’s an Irish flag flying near me, seen a video now of one of the main roads and there is loads of different flags. There’s a local campaign to get the flags of every country up and people are donating flags/putting them up to celebrate the diversity. ❤️

Of course it's about the (England) flags. The Left always complain and whinge about the English flying the England flag, calling them bigots, racists, and flagshaggers at every available opportunity. Don't pretend this is the first time 'The Left' have had a problem with people putting England flags up. Never complain about other country's flags though. Funny that isn't it? Wink

Funny also, how no-one has answered the question yet as to why it seems OK (according to 'the left') to fly the Palestine flag, but not the England one.

How wonderful and absolutely lovely. 🙄 I wonder if the flags representing dozens of other countries will receive hate and vitriol....???

No, of course they won't. It's just the England flag that gets hate.

I’ve answered that before, happy to go again.

The Palestine flag being flown in this country represents support for a country where approx 62k people have died in the last 2 years. Almost half of them women and children.

The English flag, currently (not always), is being used by a group of people who also spray paint Chinese takeaways, punch health care assistants in parks, and “protect women and girls” by shouting at buildings.

It is being used by some who don’t do any of those things. But they’re unfortunately lumped in with the definite scumbags described above, because they’re the loudest voices.

They’re not the same. The cause isn’t the same. The Palestinian women and children are being actual persecuted. Our men are yelling at inanimate objects and painting roundabouts. Can you see the difference in severity?

BatchCookBabe · 30/08/2025 22:35

No. Not having it. Nice try though.

People are not spamming every town’s lampposts with Palestinian flags haphazardly sprayed on mini roundabouts. It’s absolutely fine to fly English flags from flagpoles and on private property. Co-opting public infrastructure and defacing it is violating laws and is not. It’s nothing to do with “lefty” politics.

There are bloody loads of posters on this thread who have explained exactly that there is nothing wrong with the English flag unless you’re using it deliberately to make people of colour feel uncomfortable. But you have deliberately ignored them.

You can keep saying that, 'oh but it's fine to fly the English flag, just not spamming them everywhere, like mini roundabouts and the like.' But the left have always complained about the ENGLISH flying ENGLAND flags, (before all of this flag stuff started!) calling them nasty names like bigot, racist, and flag shaggers.

Don't pretend this is not true because it is. Don't backpedal now and say 'but... but, proper England flags on proper flagpoles are OK.' Just don't. Not when the left has been bashing anyone who flies an England flag, ever since I can remember!

I'm not repeating myself again. Fact is, the left have always bashed anyone flying ENGLAND flags. Not any other country, just ENGLAND, because it's sooooo fashionable to bash the English. 🙄 As I said, don't pretend this is the first time anyone has whinged about the England flag being shown, and it's only 'all the England flags on mini roundabouts, and on various signs' that are causing issues.

Most people probably won’t know that the emergency services often wear the union flag on their uniforms.

They don’t feel uncomfortable wearing it, they aren’t idiots, stupid, far right or racist.

They ARE patriotic and proud to be British or support Britain if they aren’t British themselves.

Nobody has a problem with either the St George’s flag or the Union flag. Which has repeatedly been said. The Union flag especially which is very symbolic of the nation, royal events, jubilee, Olympics, etc. but it’s the meaning behind the current campaign of raise the flags, started by Tommy Robinson’s mate.

Seen a video of a march through a nearby town near me, most marchers waving a St George’s flag while shouting “immigrants out”, etc. that’s not supporting anything other than hate and intolerance.

i have probably missed this but has anyone actually said this about the union flag

i bought a handbag today with it on 😀….well its black on black but it’s supposed to be the union flag 🤔

I'm guessing, if people weren't so 'offended' by our national flag in the first place, this takeover wouldn't have happened.
