Just a chat to understand what’s going on with the influx of England and UJ flags all over the streets?

thoughts?
where did it stem from?
is it making you uncomfortable? (It is, me, but not entirely sure why)

A PP has recently posted an image of a Chinese takeaway, with racial abuse painted onto it, and an instruction to go home.

Expressing love for their country. Pull the other.

Hmmmm, maybe I am a bit of a sceptic, but I do wonder if a member of the far left has done that just to discredit the people who want to fly England flags, ya know, just to cause problems and discord? Wink

With the way some of them have been talking on threads like this, it wouldn't surprise me...

'Foreign looking people?'

The irony is breathtaking !!!

You couldn't make it up! 😆

I did spell it out that they live in the hotel housing asylum seekers, combined with their obvious ethnic origin, speaking Afghanistani, working for uber eats I’m pretty sure from the fact they weren’t born in the uk. I’m not racist enough unlike some to think that because someone is Asian, black, Filipino, etc that they’re not British.

Nah, it’ll have been a racist.

BatchCookBabe · 30/08/2025 19:30

I could post a myriad of examples of left wing violence and aggression and vandalism towards people who don't think like them, but I CBA. Too many to choose from @YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt Cheers for that random example though. 👏

Nah, it'll have been a racist IMO.

Fixed that for you. Smile

From someone taking an anti - racist position, your choice of words are strangely delivering quite the opposite. " foreign looking" - what do you mean? " speaking another language " - that's indicative of a multicultural society surely, and doesn't carry any bearing on nationality? " working for uber eats" - are you saying only specific ethnicities are employed? Do you mean speaking ' pashto or dari? They're the official languages of Afghanistan, not " Afghanistani " .hth.

No need really, we’re on a forum - they’re all just opinions unless people are quite obviously stating figures, research or other documents like articles etc etc.

I think most people can work out what an opinion is without help.

Exactly. There are a lot of questionable posts from a few posters on here. And hilariously ironic, and disingenuous. Also nasty and rude to other posters who don't agree with them, insulting and bashing them.

The 'kind' and 'compassionate' left strikes again. 😆 As I said, the irony is breathtaking.

it’s all about context isn’t it, you’ve conveniently left out the bit where I said they live in the hotel which houses asylum seekers. It’s the overall picture. Being “brown” myself I’m very well aware that the colour of your skin doesn’t make you foreign. I’ve said so myself either on this thread previously or another similar one. You’re right though I have no idea what the languages of Afghanistan are called, I know they’re from Afghanistan as one of the (afghanistani) taxi drivers told me.

What flag are you comfortable flying?

And can you go to that country and fly the union jack and report back?

I took issue with your casual use of stereotyping. And I'm not quite sure why you felt it fitting to air quote ' homeless '. These people you volunteer with, are they or aren't they ' homeless'? And if you believe them not to be, why on earth are you helping them in your spare time?!

I think it's fine. I don't feel uncomfortable if people want to display the national flag(s).

You think these are fine? I don't think many are objecting to the flag but honestly this is beyond flying a flag.

I think it would cheer up the place if everyone flew their own flag. Imagine all the colours we can introduce to our dreary streets if everyone flew their own nations flags. It is a shame that racists and fascists have taken the flag as theirs. I guess they thought no one else was using it. 🇦🇨🇧🇪🇨🇮🇨🇿🇨🇵🇩🇰🇩🇴🇫🇴🇮🇸🇱🇷🇧🇼

Funny really, but in my town of 22,000 people, and all the surrounding villages, and also the 3-4 towns within 5-8 miles, there is NONE of this. A few people flying the England flag yeah (a few who always fly it,) but none of this messy looking stuff. Obviously only happening in certain parts of the country ...

The local council say there are 12 actual homeless people in my (small) city. There are far more than 12 people who sit in shop doorways asking for money. Some of them I know which street their homes are on. So no they’re not all homeless , though technically I suppose they don’t claim to be, they’re just wrapped in a sleeping bag asking for money. I get into town most mornings before 7am and I know who’s actually sleeping in a shop doorway and who rocks up mid morning 🤷🏻‍♀️

why do we help? Because I’m sure even the technically non homeless ones have issues and need support. We don’t investigate or interrogate people about their situation. We provide donated food /cooked meals for people who say they are struggling to eat.

A roundabout near me has been decked in Irish flags. We are nowhere near Ireland and nor do we have a significant Irish population. That did make me smile, maybe they just decided to get in there first.

TranceNation · 30/08/2025 20:23

I've been away on holiday the last month but had been reading about the flags craze whilst away. I noticed quite a few flags on flyovers down the motorway coming out of Heathrow yesterday though and also noticed a roundabout in our town painted.

You can just feel the tension in the country at the moment. It's been simmering for a while now.

Your hearts obviously in the right place and I applaud you for volunteering. Thanks for clearing that up
