Rip the flags down! A call for action!

The sudden appearance of the English flag hung on lamp posts, railings etc has absolutely sickened me, and my dd.
I am proud to be British, but the misappropriation of the flag by thugs, intending to intimidate, is absolutely not acceptable in a diverse society.
So tonight myself and my adult dd ripped them down in our area, and tomorrow we will be going on a flag hunt, to rip down any more we find.
I would strongly urge those of you that feel the same way, to also remove them, as long as you feel safe and comfortable to do it.
Posting in AIBU for traffic.

Ah well, there are a lot of pride flags that need to be torn down in that case then. ✌️

Really? I haven’t seen any on lampposts, but go for it if it’s a thing round your way.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/08/2025 10:05

The obvious answer is to ignore them. They’ll soon get sick of putting them up everywhere.

While I agree with you in some ways, and @Tryinghardtobefair ’s post was powerful about leaving them alone, I do wonder at what point those of us (and I’m sure it’s the majority, loud as the racists are) who think this is wrong and dangerous stop just turning a blind eye and stand up for ourselves. It’s getting worse and worse, and it’s worrying.

Nobody is saying flying the flag means you are racist. They are saying hanging it all over the place and vandalising roundabouts etc means you are trying to intimidate and have been egged on by racists. Many people are able to feel proud of their country without having to fly a flag, but if they want to show their pride that way, on their own property, that is - and always has been - fine.

Nobody is saying flying the flag means you are racist.

Well, to be fair, lots of people are saying that. And yesterday there was a thread by a woman who was worried that people wouldn't buy her house because her neighbour was flying an England flag on his property and a fair number of people said that would indeed put them off.

And maybe they're right. We do know what's behind this current campaign and it isn't benign even if the flag itself is. But let's not pretend that nobody is saying what plenty of people are saying because that's not honest either.

The flags are performative but so is the competitive outrage over who is most sickened and can tear down the biggest number. It's a shame the Left has alienated so many people.

Yes I am, and incredibly lucky to be so.
Does that mean I don’t get to have an opinion on the direction this country is heading?

You are type of person who crows on about how lovely multi culturalism is but who doesn't actually live in those areas with all the problems they have. It pisses me off.

CreepyCoupe · 26/08/2025 10:13

We’ve just had our weekly catch up meeting on Teams. The flags of course came up (as we’d just had an email from our chief exec asking us to report any on roads, lampposts etc). Everyone is pretty disgusted and embarrassed by them.

I ignore them, just like I ignore all the trans-washing, was simply stating that there's more of them than country flags where I am. ✌️

Ratafia · 26/08/2025 10:25

I like the response where people use the flags painted on roundabouts as a background for messages like "The UK welcomes all refugees". It's also fun to blow the racists' minds by commending them for multiculturalism in supporting the patron saint of Georgia, Ethiopia, Portugal, Greece, Lithuania, Catalonia and Aragon.

Were there 3 of you ripping down the flag OP? cos if there was you are on GB News right now jumping up and down and the hosts say you are idiots! Might not be you but if you wore black 3/4 trousers and a redish pinky top you have made the news

Not sure why you're being so aggressive to someone who genuinely wants to learn. You have issues. Yes I did learn British history at school but at no point did it cover the English flag being unable to be flown IN ENGLAND.

I have a low tolerance level for disgenuous behaviour.

Not me, but I’m heartened to hear of other people doing the same.

It isn’t.

It’s largely full of people saying that what people put on their own front garden is their business, but that we wouldn’t buy the house next door.

You can choose to hang your flag, we can choose where to live.

TheNoonBell · 26/08/2025 11:19

For those taking them down, be aware, some of the local groups may not take kindly to the desecration of their flags.

Some bin men may also grass you up.

Perhaps whoever it was doesn't care what the hosts of GB News think.

How lazy of you to leave a job half done OP
You should have completed the signal circle of the tolerant left by hanging Palestinian ones in their place.

Everanewbie · 26/08/2025 11:35

While you're at it, can you get rid of the Progress flags and all the Palestinian flags too?

I'm not a fan of the all the flags, we do patriotism in a more subtle, less in your face kind of way. And I think we do it well. I love the St. George Cross and the Union Jack, but this mass flag hanging? It just doesn't strike me as tasteful. Its hard to articulate.

But yeah, give me that over Palestine, Ukraine, Pride or whatever the latest virtue signalling nonsense that is 'correct' think.

Netcurtainnelly · 26/08/2025 12:03
  • Landlord Practices: There are reports of landlords evicting existing tenants to convert properties into HMOs for asylum accommodation, sometimes at higher rents.

When your looking for a place to rent and the above happens you'll change your tune.
How disgusting that this is happening.
No wonder people are fighting back.

As we've seen, that's another of those things that "doesn't happen", AngeloMysterioso - you know, like councils ripping down flags, removing references to husband and wife/mother and father, praying in public and so on

Trouble is the extremists just get irritable and try to change the subject when such things are pointed out, so rather tthan trying to bring facts into it I find it's best ignored while they move onto the next thing

I think if they get in, it’s because the left has enabled it hand over fist with their behaviour.
Your escapade being a prime example of the tolerance that they preach while being utterly intolerant themselves.
I haven’t played a part in that, but you have, so I’ll probably laugh harder than you think.

exasperatedflatmate · 26/08/2025 14:48

Oh come on @Vervits left and right who’ve taken their eyes of the ball.
throw an opportunistic rabble rouser into the mix and you get a Reform majority (tho I hope not).
