Incredibly boring programs - Starting with Ben Fogle

BF lives in the Wild must be the most boring program ever made. Every episode is the same:

“We left the rat race to live in a cow shed in the middle of nowhere. We live on rain water and mouldy vegetables but we’re so happy”

Next minute the socially isolated kids are shown studying butterflies or some shit.

I just can’t stomach it, normally I can sit and watch anything but this just irritates me beyond belief, I have to leave the room whilst DH watches it. The only other thing that comes close is Jools Holland.

Anyone else have such a strong dislike of a particular program?

Loose Women.
Loathe the lot of them. If I catch any of it by accident, I have to lie down in a darkened room to recover.

EchoedSilence · 13/08/2025 22:00

I can't stand smug farmer Adam and his fancy cows on Country file.

David Attenborough has a very annoying voice doesn’t he? He always sounds like he’s crying

The Goldbergs No GIF by ABC Network

Mine is radio. I often have R4 on in the background and the only programme that I will actively rush to switch off is Any Answers. Lots of bigoted middle Englanders being given airtime for views that are at best twee and pointless (what ever will happen when the wind isn’t blowing?! John from Southend thinks he’s the only person ever to have spotted that issue with wind power. It must be because hes a retired engineer) and at worst racist.
Actually Feedback I switch off too for the same reason.

I wish Mumsnet HQ hadn't deleted their 😊 response!
I agree that feedback is unbearable!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 13/08/2025 22:02

Similarly, I've always been sceptical about the Flower Pot Men. I don't think it was entirely true, especially that bit about the 'man who worked in the garden having his dinner'

And I suspect that the little house knew something about it too.

Silverbirchleaf · 13/08/2025 22:03

I find that I can watch a few episodes off ‘New Lives…’but then they become a bit same-y, in exactly the way you describe. The same though applies to place in the Sun, Homes under the hammer, Escape to the country etc. One or two programmes, fine. Lots of them - repetitive.

However, Ben Fogle did a series with Dwight Fields (now Chief Scout) called Endurance which recreated the expedition to South Pole using authentic clothing and equipment. Fascinating series.

TotHappy · 13/08/2025 22:07

That spoof of the middle aged white men is about Simon Reeves isn't it? I do actually like him though. His two parter on Cornwall (where I live) was actually really good and properly showed what it's like (to an extent you can in 2 hours). As opposed to when Dawn French, Hugh Dennis or Caroline Quentin come down to one of the prettiest, least Cornish bits and just eat scones (wrongly).

LightDrizzle · 13/08/2025 22:08

I also can’t bear Jools Holland, The One Show or Mrs Brown’s Boys. If I go to hell, Mrs Browns Boys will be on the telly and I’ll be sat on a sofa with a loud sniffer, a noisy eater and someone telling me about their dream at length. I haven’t watched the Fogle one.

Like @ThePure I’m a Radio 4 fan and can’t stick Any Answers for the same reasons as her . I’m also averse to I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, even though is a “classic”; I have been known to race across the kitchen to switch it off in the days before I could bellow at Alexa to do it for me. I also dislike radio dramas featuring actors doing awful American accents, this seemed to be a thing a decade or more ago. I’m fine with American actors.

Martin Lewis can get in the bin too. Smug get.

BlueEyedBogWitch · 13/08/2025 22:09

Masterchef - all that arsing about with foam and jus and putting tiny garnishes on with tweezers. It’s a bit of dinner, ffs. It’ll be shit in four hours!

Time Team - they hardly ever find anything. They point at a hole with a trowel and we all have to imagine some foundations or whatever.

QI - what a bunch of arseholes. Like being trapped at a dinner party in Islington.

Any nature programme, especially ones narrated by that prick David Attenborough. I feel guilty because I know they’re very cleverly made and educational etc etc, and I love animals…but fuck me, they’re boring.

StickyProblem · 13/08/2025 22:10

I'm ok with some of The Repair Shop, I do like seeing the skills and problem solving processes of the craftspeople. But I get fed up with the soppy stories, sometimes it looks like they've pushed someone to tears. I've been known to shout "Take it to the fucking tip".

suburburban · 13/08/2025 22:11

The recycling one - Money for nothing in the afternoon with smug Sarah where she goes to the tip and upcycles stuff

the idea is good but she is incredibly irritating

hello I’m Sarah, what’s your name

mind your own business

can I take your lovely table and repurpose it

no you can’t , do go away

cobrakaieaglefang · 13/08/2025 22:13

Quiz shows, reality tv, soaps ..all in the bin, all old news. Give me good quality drama without graphic sex/ violence and Im a happy gal.

Wednesdaysotherchild · 13/08/2025 22:13

Aw, Iove that show! It’s wholesome life goals tv with decent ordinary people who live interesting lives with purpose. They aren’t botoxed narcissistic fame-seekers.

I loathe Celebrity Love Island at First Sight in the Jungle with Strictly Stars in their Eyes and the sort of show I like is few & far between so bah!

BlueyNeedsToFuckOff · 13/08/2025 22:13

Is Antiques Roadshow still going? Most boring programme in existence - no redeeming features whatsoever.

CandidRaven · 13/08/2025 22:13

Anything like love Island, full of fame chasers and they skip from one reality show to another in search of staying relevant

LightDrizzle · 13/08/2025 22:14

“Like being trapped at a dinner party in Islington.” 😂

CurlyhairedAssassin · 13/08/2025 22:14

Arraminta · 13/08/2025 21:31

Any program where mediocre, uneducated members of the public have to puzzle things out. It's absolutely tortuous to watch.

Current top contender are those randoms on a bus trying to fathom where they are in Europe.

Oh god, yes, I caught a snippet of that the other day and was astounded at the lack of general knowledge amongst those taking part. It was the bit where they had objects in a box and had to take out the ones which weren't associated with a particular country. The amount of times those objects were going in and out of the box.....it got tedious. They were so thick that it just became a very boring guessing game, when it should have been a race to see who could get it right first time the quickest.

Considering it was a travel entertainment progamme, why did they go on it if their knowledge about other countries was so lacking?

FastMauveQuoter · 13/08/2025 22:15

For me it's Pointless, can't stand it and find it really tedious. Also, Tipping Point.

ScorchingEgg · 13/08/2025 22:15

Ben Fogle gives me the serious ick. I feel like my entire reproductive system shuts up shop when he comes on the TV.

EllyRoff · 13/08/2025 22:15

Just thought of another one - that garden show with Charlie Dimmock (sp?) where they’re shown a tiny little yard - around 6ft by 6ft and say they have a £10k budget or something as equally ridiculous. FFS you could spend a million on it and it will still be a tiny cramped back yard

AncientBallerina · 13/08/2025 21:25

Man I hate the smugfest that is Grand Designs

"Tarquin and Henrietta bought a disused cow shed and went slightly over their £10m budget with an unimaginative glass box with all the privacy and charm of an office in Canary Wharf. They managed to source artisan doorknobs from a silversmith in Kazakhstan and hinges from Outer Mongolia".

nam3c4ang3 · 13/08/2025 22:20

I watched one tonight about a kitchen and a garden design - fucking boring as hell. Another one that bores me to tears is that goggle box - what even is the point of it 😂☠️🫣 I’ve seen it once - and I feel dumber for watching it 😂

stonebrambleboy · 13/08/2025 22:20

Golf
Cricket
Formula One
Anything with Kirsty Allsopp and Phil Spencer in. She's an insufferable snob.

Teado · 13/08/2025 22:21

I loved Pointless when it came out but got bored of it. Can’t believe it’s still going!
