DH ate all the school snacks and I am ranting *&!@!

Not really an AIBU but I just needed to vent.

Went to make the school lunch and discovered (yet again) that DH has eaten all the snacks that I use for DS’s lunch. These were purchased on Thursday and have all gone by Sunday (not sure when but probably by Saturday lunchtime). He has form for this, usually every few months but it seriously annoys me when I don’t find out about it until Sunday evening after the shops have closed. Occasionally DH will admit he’s done it but I have enough time to replace the eaten items…. But not tonight.

It’ll be things like my son’s favourite biscuits, or those small snack size packets of crisps (like a box of 25) etc.

For reference my snack items I have to hide but my son’s things are usually safe. Feeling annoyed and want to buy a padlock and a f off sign.

He’s an adult, he can source more. Tell him to go shopping, then yes, get a padlocked box and tell him to grow the fuck up. I can’t believe he would deprive your child!

Nearly50omg · 20/07/2025 10:56

send him to the shops to replace them

PeapodMcgee · 20/07/2025 10:57

Is he usually such a useless selfish prick? What would happen if he made the lunches?

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 20/07/2025 10:57

Does your DH have an eating disorder of some sort? Eating that many packets of crisps in that time frame is indicative of some sort of binge eating, I would think. If so, you might have to create a storage place that you can lock.

ErlingHaalandsManBun · 20/07/2025 10:58

Well the solution is simple. Off he fucks to the shop to restock what he has eaten.

If he knows these are for your DS lunch then he should know, if he touches them, then he replaces them.

Presume OP is not in the UK

Coffeeishot · 20/07/2025 10:58

Send him out to get more, yanbu though it is just greedy .

Toodles89 · 20/07/2025 10:59

Are there general crisps and biscuits for dh to eat or do you only buy for DC?

He's an arse to eat them all knowing there's nothing left for school. Does he have an eating disorder?

Send him out to buy more, take out what you need for the week, put separate and tell him he can't eat them. If he does leave the bastard.

gamerchick · 20/07/2025 11:00

Some people are just selfish. Your bloke is one of them so yes I'd probably get a lockbox or an excellent hiding place. He needs to buy his own snacks

Presume OP is not in the UK

Why?

Neodymium · 20/07/2025 11:01

My school snacks are locked up.

Scramblingeggs · 20/07/2025 11:02

Does he have snacks of his own and wants more? Why doesn't he just buy more for himself in the first place? What's his relationship with food like? Is he trying to be "good" or lose weight and then caves into goodies because there are snacks around? Or does he binge/boredom eat? Lots to consider here I think

Unless money is a factor, he's not necessarily depriving your son as they can be replaced but I agree you shouldn't have to do it.

It is however only 11am on Sunday morning, supermarkets are open until 4pm so that part isn't really relevant.

PeapodMcgee · 20/07/2025 11:02

TickyandTacky · 20/07/2025 11:01

Why?

Because she says it is Sunday evening and the shops are shut. She lives in Brisbane.

Pizzagirly · 20/07/2025 11:03

I just couldn't look at someone so selfish.
Must be hard to remain married to that type of selfishness. So unattractive.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 20/07/2025 11:03

Selfish prick.

Hell would freeze over before I hid food in my own house, especially if it was for my DC's lunches.

And I wouldn't have replaced the snacks in the past OP. I would've told my DS in front of his dad, that he's the reason he doesn't have any.

newaccountoldlurker · 20/07/2025 11:03

TickyandTacky · 20/07/2025 11:01

Why?

Because it's not Sunday evening and the shops aren't shut yet in the UK? 🤔

SaintGermain · 20/07/2025 11:03

Is he a fat slob?

Petitchat · 20/07/2025 11:05

I thought schools were closed for the holidays?

Sunshineismyfavourite · 20/07/2025 11:05

He is being a selfish dick. I would 100% buy a box with a lockable lid and put the snacks in there in future.

Coffeeishot · 20/07/2025 11:06

Op i am sorry I didnt read on to see it is Sunday evening , i got to he ate it, and was infurated on your behalf!

Sunshineismyfavourite · 20/07/2025 11:07

Petitchat · 20/07/2025 11:05

Some UK schools are open til middle of next week though I understand the OP isn't UK based.

Luckyingame · 20/07/2025 11:09

Well, he'll just have to buy the stuff again. Shouldn't be a problem.
I don't have kids and cannot imagine telling my husband what he should eat and how much, thankfully.
Why would he be a fat slob, as a PP suggested?

OneCalmFish · 20/07/2025 11:09

Because it’s Sunday morning here and schools are closed for Summer holidays x

FOJN · 20/07/2025 11:10

Why is it your job to replace the things he has eaten when you have already done the work to be organised for school lunches?

You need to tell him he needs to source replacements now. How he does it is not your problem.

Does he have form for being a selfish arsehole?

This. If the shops are closed now, he’ll have to sort this out before work tomorrow morning.
