DH ate all the school snacks and I am ranting *&!@!

Not really an AIBU but I just needed to vent.

Went to make the school lunch and discovered (yet again) that DH has eaten all the snacks that I use for DS’s lunch. These were purchased on Thursday and have all gone by Sunday (not sure when but probably by Saturday lunchtime). He has form for this, usually every few months but it seriously annoys me when I don’t find out about it until Sunday evening after the shops have closed. Occasionally DH will admit he’s done it but I have enough time to replace the eaten items…. But not tonight.

It’ll be things like my son’s favourite biscuits, or those small snack size packets of crisps (like a box of 25) etc.

For reference my snack items I have to hide but my son’s things are usually safe. Feeling annoyed and want to buy a padlock and a f off sign.

I hide all the treats and snacks in my house, otherwise they wouldn't last a day.

I live with a binge eater i also have to hide things if i want anything for myself.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 20/07/2025 12:40

Why?

Are you living with someone who has an ED, or just an incredibly selfish person?

Do you have to hide anything else from them?

im Another one who has to hide the snacks and biscuits in my house as Dd2 has an awful habit of taking whole packets of biscuits to eat,! She’s 18 and doesn’t care or denies it’s her.

so they get hidden and if she wants to binge then she can buy her own biscuits, chocolate and crisps.

Thedoorisalwaysopen · 20/07/2025 12:46

I would stop having things like this in the house. Let's be honest, children shouldn't be taking biscuits and crisps to school. They are far better having healthier options. If DH wants to stuff his face with crap, let him buy the crap.

Not all, we've got another two days to go.

We have another full week. Northern England

Spaghettihair · 20/07/2025 12:46

Make it his problem every time. My DC get their own snack out the fridge (cheesestrings) and if there are none available they’re sent to their father to ask what they should bring in (with three minutes to departure, typically)

Happened twice in winter term and hasn’t happened again all year.

Grammarnut · 20/07/2025 12:47

He needs to grow up. Get a padlock. Tell DH to buy own snacks.

viques · 20/07/2025 12:51

Make sure you tell DS exactly why he hasn’t got any of his lunchtime goodies. I wouldn’t be replacing them, and would be reminding DS every day why they weren’t there.

Waterweight · 20/07/2025 12:52

Tuck shop tomorrow or he can run to the servo

I thought schools were closed for the holidays?

I was waiting to see who would be the first to say this (although the "supermarkets are open!" posters are almost as bad...

MN 'I am literally incapable of envisioning that anyone else's life is the slightest bit different to my own,' phenomenon strikes again.

Well, you do realise other countries exist? Given it's Sunday night where she is then I assumed Aus/NZ (and another poster has said she's in Brisbane (Australia)) and school holidays are at different times.

that aside, some schools in England have finished, some are not finishing until this week.

I wish I'd seen your post first!!

He is being a selfish dick. I would 100% buy a box with a lockable lid and put the snacks in there in future.

Absolutely no way I'd live with an adult where this would be necessary.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 20/07/2025 13:01

God, the moaning on here because people assumed someone using a UK chat forum was actually in the UK 🤣

Mountain/Molehill.

Much easier for an OP to pop that tiny bit of info into an opening post.

And if they choose not to, that's not the big deal some people are making it into here either 🤷‍♂️

Because it’s Sunday morning here and schools are closed for Summer holidays x

Not all schools are shut - I’ve still got a week to go! 😩

She said it was Sunday evening, MN time stamped it as mid morning, that wasn't enough of a clue for you?

That's an awful way to have to live.

It is for all parties concerned but the poster here is dealing with it sensibly I think. Same with alcohol addiction, I guess.

AngryBird6122 · 20/07/2025 13:16

My DC are still at school until mid next week.... they are different all over the country let alone another. Why is some people presuming everyone is finished at the same time???? Odd

Alondra · 20/07/2025 13:19

That a hell of a selfish pig you have as a DH. I'd be fuming and telling him where to go.

Tigergirl80 · 20/07/2025 13:22

He’s been a greedy fucker. So send him out to replace everything he’s binged on.

Overwhelmedisanunderstatement · 20/07/2025 13:23

Ugh OP I feel your pain, this happens in my house a LOT. I've resorted to keeping a separate stash in an inconvenient location. So now we have a kids snack drawer, an adult snack drawer and the secret/hard to reach stash. You have to be committed to snack stealing to retrieve them. But seriously doesn't feel like it should need to be like that, it's obvious when things are lunchbox snacks and if you eat the last one you need to either replace it (if you're an adult) or tell the person who shops that you had the last one!

zanahoria · 20/07/2025 13:23

Divorce him

Cherrysoup · 20/07/2025 13:24

Drip feed re Dh having food issues and most pp then saying he’s an arsehole (including me!). It’s helpful to know this kind of info in the OP. Don’t know about OP’s area, but we have late opening corner shops, is this UK specific? Are there garages open?

Postre · 20/07/2025 13:24

It isn't 'tonight' yet. He can go to the supermarket.

DearDenimEagle · 20/07/2025 13:31

Glad I live with 24 hour shops…🤗
