Cuppa Tea!

So just a little lightheartedness on this drab Sunday morning in the West Mids šŸ™‚ā˜”ļø

I’d like to know your morning brew! And also to know if you have a favourite cup, brand of tea and if you have a pic to upload even better! (My guilty secret is teacup/mug hoarder šŸ˜…).

So my fave cup is a V&A Alice in wonderland decorated with gold leaf no less! Ridiculously costed but I had a voucher so all good. Fave tea is loose leaf Yorkshire and as you’ll see from my pic, I like it strong!

@LittlleMy , My early starts were often chatting with a fellow insomniac. It made for a cosy start in winter.

Green tea (water 80 degrees with the tea bag taken out straight away or it goes bitter), in as big a mug as I can get my hands on

BobbinThreadbare123 · 20/07/2025 10:33

I have an oversized mug with all sorts of science and engineering facts on it. I like very strong teabags; at the mo I've got M&S tea on the go, or it'll be something like Assam. I have a small amount of soya milk as I'm lactose intolerant, and never any sugar in tea (sometimes in coffee).

I have loose leaf tea (Punjana.) Made in the mug with an infuser. Occasionally I dust off the teapot (I did this morning.) Very strong. Splash of milk. I am having a mug crisis at the moment as I can’t decide which one to be faithful to. Every time I am in a shop that sells mugs, I spend a few minutes checking to see if they have the perfect one. Sadly I haven’t even decided what that is yet so I keep looking. God, my life is empty, isn’t it?🤣

I learned in the T2 shop - didn’t think I liked green tea before that

RevolutionHere · 20/07/2025 10:39

no, i didnt like green tea, until i started simply dipping the bag

LittlleMy · 20/07/2025 10:39

@Funnywonder no, you’re a totally normal teahead! šŸ˜… It’s like the holy grail - the ā€˜perfect’ teacup/mug, it’s gotta be out there somewhere haha

I have Empress Grey from M&S every morning in a bone china mug from RE (brilliant local interiors shop, which makes it's own designs). The perfect combo for me 😁

They have some bonkers designs that please me and they're thin, light and pleasing to hold. Yes, I am fussy about my morning cuppa... https://www.re-foundobjects.com/product/view/feature-mugs

I might have to try and give it another go sometime and save up for the quality stuff this time as it really does sound to have genuinely helpful traits..

Black coffee with 3 sweeteners in any mug

BestIsWest · 20/07/2025 10:47

First thing I have a cup of Twinings Earl Grey in a giant Keith Brymer Jones mug with ā€˜FFS’ on it.
Then an hour later a Nespresso coffee in another of his mugs with ā€˜Coffi’ on it.

Best mugs by a mile are handmade (coming from a potter).

HƆLTHEPAIN · 20/07/2025 10:48

Halfway down my homemade ā€˜cappulatte’ - not as milky as a latte but not quite as frothy as cappuccino.

Oh I love this thread! I’m jealous of all you tea lovers and hope you all enjoy your lovely brews. I’ve always wished I liked tea but I just can’t get on board with it at all. This thread just reinforces how much I wish I liked it!

Fuzzypinetree · 20/07/2025 10:49

Went off tea every time I've been pregnant, too. Usually sorted itself out again after a while.
I've got several favourite mugs. They need to be big, though. I can't do with the little cups where you take two sips and then have to go and make a new one. Only got M&S teabags at the moment due to living abroad. Buy loads of different ones every time we are back in the UK but haven't been since my last pregnancy.
28 degrees and sunny here today. My youngest is napping next to me in the pushchair.

Growing up I was never a fan of tea as my dad used to make a pot, then put it on the cooker ring to stew to death. So I thought that was always what tea was like.

I now favour either decaf Yorkshire tea or Scottish Blend although many years ago I found a perfect one - I think it was called Poonakandy but can't seem to find it anywhere. It was just perfect.

TheWibble · 20/07/2025 10:52

This is my favourite mug for my morning brew. I like a nice big chunky mug, and my 6 year old dd chose this one for me when my old mug got broken. It's lovely and cheery. I only use it for my morning cuppa, as I have different mugs depending on the time of day.
I like a nice strong tea (preferably Yorkshire tea), with milk, no sugar. Tea is my favourite drink in the world!

I went off tea when I was pregnant too unless it was made by MIL. I don’t know what she did differently. I had to go there every other day at least for a cuppa.

The best way of making green tea imo is to pour enough boiling water over the bag to cover it, then chuck out that water and fill the cup with fresh water. That gets rid of the bitterness, but gives a bit more flavour than just dipping the bag. You can do the same with loose-leaf green tea if you use an infuser or one of those cup-shaped mesh things that sit inside your cup.
