Cuppa Tea!

So just a little lightheartedness on this drab Sunday morning in the West Mids šŸ™‚ā˜”ļø

I’d like to know your morning brew! And also to know if you have a favourite cup, brand of tea and if you have a pic to upload even better! (My guilty secret is teacup/mug hoarder šŸ˜…).

So my fave cup is a V&A Alice in wonderland decorated with gold leaf no less! Ridiculously costed but I had a voucher so all good. Fave tea is loose leaf Yorkshire and as you’ll see from my pic, I like it strong!

Love it! Thanks for posting - and very jealous of the wonderful morning you have lined up after your cuppa!

Aww thanks for the thread! Honestly, it's put a big grin on my face! We've got a yellow weather warning here (dry at the moment!), so the likelihood is that I get drenched, but hey ho! There's grub at the end and they also do a lovely hibiscus tea!!

I'm the opposite, I like weak tea but hardly any milk. Some people stick a load of milk in but that's disgusting, just briefly dunk the bag šŸ˜€

Do y’know I’ve never come across anyone thats ever asked me for a weak tea - fascinating!

Agree can’t stand milky tea - makes me want to gag! 😬

I drink mine black and I'm not fussy about brand but it should be loose leaves in a pot. Tea made with a teabag tastes really unpleasant.

Manzana · 20/07/2025 09:41

I favour mugs with a blue pattern, with Earl Grey, and no milk

I have a very thin bone china mug for my Yorkshire tea.
Made strong, with enough milk that I can start drinking it straight away, sipping the "layers" as they cool enough not to burn my mouth.
I cannot drink cold or cool tea.
Coffee (Kenco Espresso) can be in any mug and I don't mind if it gets cold.
I also like iced coffee on a hot day. Camp coffee, full fat milk and crushed ice. Delish!
When I was growing up, my family often called tea a "splash of Charlie", like a mix of char (chai), and because my dad was called Charlie and always had a pint mug of tea in his hand.
When I met my current partner, I offered him some Charlie. I got a proper side eye, and he said he didn't think I was into that stuff šŸ˜†

Funnily I went off tea for about a year and it was really stressing me out as changing my usual teabags made no difference. I then decided to give loose leaf tea a go earlier this year - and omg! Total game changer, finally able to enjoy tea again! Hence me rejoicing with this thread haha

My favourite cup containing Twinnings Earl Grey. I like other Earl Grey teas but that is the one I buy for general consumption. I drink a lot of it!

• Strong bucket of Yorkshire Tea, with some milk (no sugar) so it’s the colour of a Werthers or slightly darker
• A hot teh tarik, spilling over with froth. Must be in a clear glass or an enamel mug.

Loose leaf is so different in taste. I think they must grind the leaves finer to put in the teabag and something gets lost in the process.

JoanChitty · 20/07/2025 09:54

We love tea in our house. We make it in a teapot which has a lovely cosy and we use Twining’s breakfast teabags. During the day we have several pots, we’re both retired.
Other teas we enjoy are Assam, Lapsang Souchong, and Lady Gray. These tend to be loose leaf.
The best cuppa is the first of the day and the one you have when you come home after a long day!

LittlleMy · 20/07/2025 09:55

@ApolloandDaphne funnily I only fancy Earl Grey when I’m on a break somewhere - otherwise basic Yorkshires my staple!

Yes I think that’s essentially it. I read someone describe it as just bags full of inferior dust - really put me off it after reading that!

Ringtons tea (strong) in a china mug - the only way to start the day for me!

LittlleMy · 20/07/2025 10:00

@JoanChitty oh yes, the cuppas that bookend your day are the best!

Favourite morning tea is something strongish - loose leaf Assam or an Assam blend with milk. However, I don't tolerate dairy well these days, and none of the non-dairy substitutes taste quite right in tea, so I often skip the milk now and have it a bit weaker.

I like mugs with alphabets on (job-related!). My favourite to drink out of is a lovely white, bone china one with the Arabic alphabet. It's very faded now, but I can't bring myself to chuck it out! I also have a nice Egyptian hieroglyphics one.

RoseyLentil · 20/07/2025 10:02

Vanilla chai brewed strong, with milk. Toasted wholemeal seed bread with crunchy peanut butter.
I usually have coffee but with peanut butter I prefer tea.

TherebytheGraceofGodgoI · 20/07/2025 10:02

Well I was up early before anyone and had my first cup sitting in the sun room in silence. Twinnings breakfast tea, weak and milky, made in the pot and drunk from my favourite bone china chicken mug (on the bottom).
Have since had breakfast and a second cup of tea in a bigger chicken mug.

My fave mugs are a Cath Kidson guinea pig design and one with squirrels on it.
Both large mugs for a lovely mug of PG. Can't beat it.ā˜•šŸ’•

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 20/07/2025 10:05

M8ne is proper loose leaf Assam from my cousin's tea plantation in Assam! I only have it when relatives go over to visit and bring it back. So I have to ration it to make it last otherwise it's Yorkshire Gold.

My mug is a thin China mug with my initial from Heals. Bone China keeps the tea stay hotter for longer.

Honestly I’d love you to recommend a good fruit tea because all the ones I’ve tried (Twinings) smell divine but taste like dishwater!

I have twinnings mostly! Leave the teabag in until you’ve drank it and add a sweetener.
