Weird first date ?

Clarkeroyce · 11/07/2025 06:08

So I went on a first date with this man that I’ve been talking to non stop for two weeks. He’s been literally calling me everyday. We had a few words a couple years ago but I ended up not following through with him.

anyways we get on the date, and it was awkward? He was staring at me the whole time but no complements, who was staring in space a lot. He even wore sunglasses, I asked him to take them off which he did but put them back on right after….?

Its just very disappointing because we have such good chemistry over FaceTime and phone calls, just for him to show up and he awkward and distant ? Was he just not attracted or into me ?

Just staring at you and inappropriately wearing sunglasses without explaining: drugs. Who knows what kind or why.

He hasn’t texted me

Have you texted him?

ShallIstart · 11/07/2025 08:53

Clarkeroyce · 11/07/2025 06:32

He’s 29 I’m 24

Ok the sunglasses at age 24 is forgivable. He probably thought he looked cool.
I wonder if he was shy OP, did he seem a confident person otherwise. He might have been overwhelmed and shy, hence the awkwaedness and sunglasses.
Maybe another date is needed to proerly assess if he is shy or just odd.
I dated some guys jn my 20s who were just a bit odd at the time but they have grown into respectable nice men since, with families. 24 for guys is young, they are still very immature.
My husband didnt mature properly until age 50 when he turned a corner and finally enteres adulthood😂he still makes some weird fashion choices.he has one t shirt that is so out there that I refuse to be seen with him in it.

It happens- I've had more than one date where we get on really well, and then we meet, and there's just no chemistry in person. It's just the way it is - and that's without things like constant unexplained sunglasses wearing.

If you really like him, then maybe try a second date, if he also wants to, but it sounds like you'll be better off trying to find someone else.

Why was he wearing sun glasses?

My first guess would be hiding the signs of drug use. Maybe I’m just cynical

Stormroses · 11/07/2025 08:56

As PP have suggested, it sounds like he was high on something.

To give him massive benefit of the doubt, it's possible they were prescription sunglasses and he'd forgotten to bring his normal glasses or lenses because it was hot all day, and he felt embarrassed admitting he couldn't see without them on. Some people are funny about having poor eyesight, especially if teased about it in childhood.

We're you showering him with compliments? Why did you expect compliments on a first date?

flyonmyi · 11/07/2025 09:00

This is a really weird thread. 😂

Hungover
On coke
Has a roving eye
Is a weirdo

Many reasons op. Please text him and ask and tell us what he says 😂

Chuckling at roving eye.

Im quite sensitive to light and wear sunglasses a lot. I wonder if people think I've got a roving eye!! 😀

No we were in side a smoothie place when he had them on

Could they have been prescription and he did not bring his normal glasses with him?

He's 29. Perfectly old enough to know wearing sunglasses indoors makes you look like a twat.

Definitely don't do a second date. Why would you waste your precious time?!

ObtuseMoose · 11/07/2025 09:09

Why are people encouraging another date? It was weird and uncomfortable for OP, why should she put herself through that again just in case the guy was shy, high, Roy Orbison's ghost or multi millionaire and all round douche canoe Bono?
She owes him nothing.

MemorableTrenchcoat · 11/07/2025 09:12

ObtuseMoose · 11/07/2025 07:41

Was it Bono?

My money's on Jeff Lynne.

dontcryformeargentina · 11/07/2025 09:45

Socially awkward, love bombed you as per pick up artistry manual at the initial stage, got nervous and anxious during the date. Forget and move on.

Littleredraincoat · 11/07/2025 09:47

Meet early to weed out these types of people. Don't get too invested just in chat or fall into the trap of becoming penpals

He hasn’t texted me

That sounds like a good thing.

Lins77 · 11/07/2025 08:35

I don't think either of them could pass for 29 😅

Especially as I'm fairly sure Roy Orbison is dead.

Fucking hell Roy Orbison is dead? I haven’t got over Keith Harris yet!

Treeleaf11 · 11/07/2025 13:24

RO died in 1988!

LittlleMy · 11/07/2025 13:48

@Clarkeroyce re wearing sunglasses - personally I’d hazard a guess isn’t a medical condition given how odd yiu find the rest of his behaviour. If I were in your place, I’d be thinking he already has a GF and doesn’t want to be recognised by someone he knows! But that’s just me, either way, gutting I’m sure to make connections digitally then a let down in real life. It’s more common than you think unfortunately.

lalalalalady · 11/07/2025 14:02

Maybe he’s married and thinks he looks more incognito in sunglasses?

TwistedWonder · 11/07/2025 14:09

I think sitting for an hour on a date and not saying a fucking word is a far bigger red flag than the sunglasses to be fair

eqpi4t2hbsnktd · 11/07/2025 14:40

He was on drugs.

tuvamoodyson · 11/07/2025 14:54

Clarkeroyce · 11/07/2025 06:16

Why was he wearing sun glasses?

I’ve no idea…did you ask him?

Imperfectpolly · 11/07/2025 14:57

Sounds like my behaviour when I have a migraine - spaced out, trying to block out light and trying to get away quickly.
