To think this tower is creepy?

Driving up the M6 today and stopped for a comfort break at Lancaster services. We've never stopped at this service station so never noticed this tower before but AIBU to think there's something creepy about it?

It looks like standard 1960s/70s architecture.

It looks like brutalist architecture which I absolutely love, but it's not for everyone .

It's a stunning example of 60s architecture. The Pennine Tower if anyone wants to look it up.

Lancaster Services are shit. Rebates is much nicer and only just up the M6.

It does give me slight children of the dog star vibes but it's probably typical of its era.

Yes it gives me the creeps too. You can find pictures of the inside, that's really weird. I imagine a whole load of abandoned people hanging out there for years on end.

YANBU, but all Towers are creepy IMO

I get you. I find towers creepy. I used to go to the Croydon IKEA at night when they opened late and I hated the big chimney looming in the dark.

It was built to resemble an air traffic control tower and had a restaurant at the top. This closed years ago due to fire regulations but I expect the building is listed (I do not know). I like it, makes me think of the golden age of motorway travel! Yes I need a life.

I still think of it as Forton Services and it's our sign that we're nearly at the Lakes (turn off J36 so not as far as Tebay).

Used to stop here all the time on the trip back to Uni 30 ish years ago. It's a piece of history for me now!

We never go far enough up the M6 to see it, but it’s one of the stars of the Lost Destinations poster collection https://www.wearedorothy.com/collections/lost-destination/products/lost-destination-forton-services. And it is indeed listed, grade II.

YABU for not noticing that when driving past previously. It is hideous though and needs a jet wash or a bulldozer. Maybe both.
