Neighbours having their own Glasto this evening

About 4 houses along on the adjoining road (our back gardens join on to each other) are having their own version of Glastonbury this evening. They have a music system set up and a DJ. Bizarrely, I can’t hear the sounds of partying / people as such.

it is ridiculously loud and I can’t even have a conversation in my back garden without shouting. The gardens are tiny, only about 10m x 20m so it is less than 50m away.

I have all my windows shut and can still hear it perfectly in every room.

my only hope is that they started at 6.30pm so maybe it’ll finish early. [clutches at straws]

I accept it is a 1 off, and don’t mind the occasional party, but the noise levels are totally inappropriate for the middle of a residential area whatever time of day it is. There are kids around trying to get to sleep now, and they’ll have no chance. .

I can’t even give up and dance to it, as it is shit european folky stuff. Lots of wailing and accordions and the like.

I rang 101 for advice, and they gave me the local out of hours number for the council, but the answerphone message said they were closed when I called them.

aibu for being really pissed off - not at the party as such - just the ridiculously loud music?

Where is it? I quite fancy a party. Where can we park the vans?

Sendcrisis2025 · 28/06/2025 21:46

As a one off I dont see the issue. We have a similar spacing and terraced houses and about 4 months ago the one at the end of the terrace had a party for a 40th. It was noisy and a bit of a pain but it's a one off.

afaloren · 28/06/2025 21:47

It is annoying when you can hear other people’s music but it’s Saturday night in summer. I would try not to get too worked up about it as a one off. Stewing won’t make it stop any sooner - I speak from experience!

PlutarchHeavensbee · 28/06/2025 21:48

You’re not alone with being sick to the back teeth of entitled arsehole neighbours who believe they’re within their rights to behave exactly how they want, when they want and fuck everybody else.

I’d give anything to have enough money to move into the middle of nowhere and not have to live within a ten mile radius of anyone, ever again. Especially if they have fucking dogs they buy and then can’t be arsed to take care of so they howl for hours at a time.

pizzaHeart · 28/06/2025 21:50

No advice but absolutely feel for you. Hope it’s a special occasion for them and not a start of a great singing season.

Summersunshinebliss · 28/06/2025 21:51

I am all for people having fun and good times but if its as bad as you say it is, then I would have popped along and asked them to turn it down a little rather than stewing over it.

greatvisuals · 28/06/2025 21:51

go join and enjoy!

summer is for partying

Testing123546 · 28/06/2025 21:53

i sympathise! I had that last night ( or should I say morning) randomly the house a few doors down started playing extremely loud house music At 3am, I had to be up for work at 6.

PatMustardsBigTool · 28/06/2025 22:02

Our neighbours (they do this very regularly) have been hosting their party since 4pm with incredibly loud music. So loud that my friend who lives at the end of the street, approximately 20 houses away, text me earlier to ask if it was them again because she could hear the music. It’s inconsiderate and entitled. All our windows are shut now because it’s so loud and it’s hot. We have a white noise machine in the children bedrooms to help a bit.

I hope your neighbours cut it out soon, you have my sympathy, OP!

AllTheOtherCats · 28/06/2025 22:04

Are you my neighbour? Same here plus own DJ. It’s ridiculously loud 😣

LlynTegid · 28/06/2025 22:05

Noise enforcement should be the responsibility of the police. I'm not sure which government changed the law, but it was a mistake.

madnessitellyou · 28/06/2025 22:08

For a moment I thought you might have been my neighbour because we’ve got the exact same thing going on here. Only it started at 3!

We’ve had 7 hours of a thumping bass. I’m all for people having fun as a one-off but this is doing my head in!

alexalisten · 28/06/2025 22:11

I cant believe you rang 101 on a one of party on a weekend in the summer in the early evening. What did you want to happen for the police to go round and shut it down

NancyBellaDonna · 28/06/2025 22:11

You have my sympathy OP.

You can get an app to measure the decibels if you want to complain about the noise.
Play them some Wagner at 6am tomorrow morning right in their bedroom window. See how they like it.

How about to be considerate of others and turn the fucking noise DOWN please!

Absolutely if it was early hours of the morning or every night. But your talking about 8pm on a Saturday night in the summer as a one off. Their will still be kids out playing screaming their little heads of at that time.

Or perhaps they just don’t want to listen to their music. It’s not about being a miserable arsehole it’s about bringing able to be in your own house without hearing someone else’s music.

If your neighbour was playing the 1812 Overture at 6am I expect you’d have views. How is this different?

ButterCrackers · 28/06/2025 22:24

Call the police if it goes on after midnight. It’s selfish to ruin time outside for others as well. Thoughtless neighbours who don’t give a toss.

Because 6am on a weekend is unreasonable. 9pm isn’t. HTH.

ReadingSoManyThreads · 28/06/2025 22:25

YANBU It's unacceptable to make THAT level of noise and disturb multiple other households. Utterly selfish behaviour.

My neighbour loves to play loud music outside regularly, we can hear all the words in our home next door BUT it's nowhere near the noise levels you describe, and I can put up with it until she moves out in 2 months time. I would not be able to tolerate the noise you describe - at all. I'd be knocking on the door and telling them to turn it right down, selfish arseholes.

To the "it's a hot summer's day leave them be brigade", why does their enjoyment get to trump the sanity levels of dozens of neighbours? You cannot hear yourself think when noise levels are extremely high like that. It's stressful and rage inducing and no party from a neighbour should be loud enough to cause that.

PyongyangKipperbang · 28/06/2025 22:26

Give it another half an hour, ring 101 and say that you can hear fighting and screaming. Not ethical but might just do the job.

If i was the neighbour i would get her done for making a false police report and wasting emergency services time

Horseebooks · 28/06/2025 22:30

one of my favourite things about where I live is that people have a lot of parties in the summer, quite often with the exact music you describe, or else latin pop. I fully get that it’s not for everyone but it brings me joy and means I don’t need to worry about playing music in the garden either if I want to. Genuinely sometimes worry that the area will change and it’ll stop!
