CNN just did a great piece about how Netanyahu has been warning about Iran having nuclear bombs in a few months for 30 years.
Have you seen the cartoon bomb scene from the general assembly in 2012?

Okay, any comment on the 90% uranium enrichment achieved by Iran, as quoted in the Le Monde article I linked?

Deliberate fear mongering by Western media to make the populations scared in order to justify Israeli and Western violence.

Willyoujustbequiet · 22/06/2025 08:29

In droves yes. Fairly obvious unless you live in a cave.

Whataboutery and you know it.

@rainingsnoring

if only Trump were as ‘brave’ and proactive with Putin.

I don't think we are in accord on the Ukraine/Russia/US/UK situation but I won't expand here as not immediately relevant to this thread.

Deliberate fear mongering by Western media to make the populations scared in order to justify Israeli and Western violence.

It's wild to me how people in the UK will shill for Islamic extremist regimes like Iran.
It's a regime actively hostile to the UK:

Police continue to question Iranian men over alleged terror plot

The men were arrested on 3 May on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act, the Metropolitan Police say.

And the opinions have started...
Russia basically betrayed Iran, this could work for them by luring the US into another middle eastern clusterfuck and US policy makers to focus on that instead of NATO and Ukraine. It’s a gamble and heavily relies on an idea that Iran could sustain long enough.https://bsky.app/profile/youranoncentral.bsky.social/post/3ls63zq257k2c

No one is shilling for the Iranian regime. I was simply pointing out that the Western media is manipulative, as much as the media in other countries that you apparently dislike. Netanyahu has been whipping up a storm for decades to try to persuade the West to join in the eradication of Iran. You can always look it up- I gave you a pointer earlier.
Your article has nothing to with the Iranian regime.

ArtTheClown · 22/06/2025 08:36

Your article has nothing to with the Iranian regime.

Yes it does - its highly likely it was Iranian-backed, not lone wolves.

You can believe that if you want to.

What is certain, after the US action, and probably the UK will join in, is that terror attacks will increase. Keep poking the sleeping bear everywhere and they will eventually respond.

Amy8 · 22/06/2025 08:41

Iran has been a corrupt and autocratic regime since the 70s, with the appearance of the population being kept in line.

This may be the time to overthrow the current regime but one attack won’t do it and Americans aren’t ready for another war - if you’re going to overthrow a regime, it takes time and effort. Nothing the Americans have time for, so this is worse because trump doesn’t care about long term, never has and never will as far as the Middle East goes.

the Iranian government doesn’t care about its people and sadly now it seems nor does the US.

There is no genocide.
Saying there is one doesn’t make it true.

Yes. Yes there is.
Denying there is doesn't make it untrue.

If we can turn the focus to Iran, maybe no one will notice Israel targeting Palestinians queuing for food 🙄

Iran developing nuclear weapons is a bad thing. How can anybody think it's a good thing. Whether this is the best way of dealing with it is another question. Still better than hand wringing once the weapon exists or worst still used.

Benjamin Netanyahu has been saying Iran are 3-5 years away from having nuclear weapons since 1992. In 2012 he took a cartoon picture of a bomb to the UN and drew red lines on it to illustrate how close Iran where to having nuclear weapons. Why are we so sure he's right this time?

As a private citizen he gave "expert testimony" on Iraq to Congress in September 2002 in which he said, "an invasion of Iraq would be a good choice". We ended up with a "sexed up" dossier about Iraq having WMD and we invaded.

Perhaps it's time to stop taking anything he says seriously.

Liverpool2025 · 22/06/2025 08:48

Wait, theres no genocide?! Wow.

Who is on the right side of history here? I've studied at Yad Vashem by the way.

All men, women and children are being obliterated. Have a look at the photos. Nothing survives. There's no difference between gas and fire.

It won’t just be what BN says. The G7 are agreed on Iran not getting a weapon.

anotherside · 22/06/2025 08:50

Best thing Iran can do now in the short term is surely take their medicine and lay low until Trump and Netanyahu are out the picture. No country of any note is going to come riding to Iran’s side in the case of a prolonged war against the US/Israel.

I haven't seen a compelling evidence that Iran is about to produce a nuclear weapon. The Israelis, on the other hand, actually have nuclear bombs.

Netanyahu has been saying that they are just on the tip of doing so for over 30 years in an attempt to draw the US and other countries into a war to destroy the regime in Iran and do his bidding. I referred to a good series that CNN produced recently quoting Netanyahu above. I can't find it, unfortunately but here is 'the bomb scene' from 2012.

It's WMD all over again.

Let's hope PM Starmer keeps us the fuck out of it. Not our circus, not our monkeys.

> It's WMD all over again.
Not quite as bad (although the orange orifice is several orders of magnitude worse than Bush) as Iran definitely have a nuclear enrichment facility at Fordow, and the Atomic Energy Commission has recently announced that they have breached their agreements on weapons grade Uranium

Cross posted. I've just linked to the 2012 performance below.

Yes, perhaps it is indeed time we stopped taking a violent madman like him seriously.

My point is not whether Iran should be allowed nuclear weapons but whether starting a war with them is justified because of claims they might be close to having them. The same claims have been made for years.

Ok I’m glad this isn’t for mners to decide. An emboldened Iran with nuclear capability isn’t worth it.

Palestine and genocide will be getting shoehorned into this thread, whether it’s relevant or not.

The murder of tens of thousands of innocent children by Israel is always relevant. They don’t get a pass on people commenting because Netanyahu has found himself another target.

Liverpool2025 · 22/06/2025 08:55

Ok, so all the women and children in Ireland should have been killed when the IRA did their bombings a few decades ago? All the hospitals flattened in NI? All the schools, with children in it? That would have been ok because the IRA were a terrorist group? No.

snowmichael · 22/06/2025 08:55

TooBigForMyBoots · 22/06/2025 01:52

They weren't far off having a nuclear weapon?

Iran is/was way off having a nuclear weapon. If it was close the US and the nuclear watchdogs would have known, said and warned of it.

Not according to Iran themselves

No, Israeli politicians and officials have made literally dozens of comments in favour of restricting the flow of food and medicine to the civilian population, all backed up by their actions. That’s on Israel and its leadership of war criminals.
