Good I hope the operation has been successful and irans nuclear capability has been destroyed. Iran is a threat to the west - I don’t think we should be involved in regime change (particularly after disastrous interventions in Lebanon and Syria but I support this action.

There’s only one threat to the world a d it’s not Iran.

Just casually dismissing a genocide.

There is no genocide.
Saying there is one doesn’t make it true.

This sums up how I feel completely (but says it much better than I ever could)

Ditto. I knew that Israel declines weapons inspections but did not know about the whistleblower. Shocking but unsurprising. The actions of the Israeli government are appalling.

Palestine and genocide will be getting shoehorned into this thread, whether it’s relevant or not.

Do you not think it relevant ? I’d say it was.

As far as I know Afghanistan and Iraq are still there and haven't been razed to the ground.

Okay MAGA

This will definitely bring peace to the middle east.

Are you being sarcastic?

SnakesAndArrows · 22/06/2025 08:10

rainingsnoring · 22/06/2025 07:51

Perhaps you are right and perhaps I am. It's clearly impossible to be sure.

What is clear is that the UK governments have absolutely not been strong advocates for peace in recent violence, the opposite, in fact.

Well we agree about that, for sure!

Who told you that? The Daily Mail? I
ran does not have nuclear weapons but Israel does. Israel has been saying that Iran is just about to have nuclear weapons for the last 30 years.

Almost at 90% enriched uranium threshold:

https://www.lemonde.fr/en/les-decodeurs/article/2025/06/19/how-close-is-iran-to-nuclear-weapons_6742494_8.html

CNN just did a great piece about how Netanyahu has been warning about Iran having nuclear bombs in a few months for 30 years.
Have you seen the cartoon bomb scene from the general assembly in 2012?

And scholars much more qualified than us to decide, have stated that what’s happening in Gaza meets the definition of genocide.

Just awful. Israel has been and is able to get away with whatever they like, it seems because they have full US support.
I naively hoped that Trump might have a different approach to foreign policy. Clearly I was wrong!

AnnaBalfour · 22/06/2025 08:17

The genocide deniers are out in force…wow. Parroting the words and ideas of who the UK government have deemed extremist members of Israeli government. Disgusting

OhCalmTheFuckDownBarbara · 22/06/2025 07:49

You're getting tiresome now. You're just derailing the thread for your own agenda banging on about Gaza and Palestine. The thread is specifically about the US strikes on Iran. Just that. Not Gaza. Not Palestine.

I think you’ve just won silliest comment of the day. The countries in the ME are all interlinked, as is what goes on there. Of course Gaza is relevant to the discussion.

AnnaBalfour · 22/06/2025 08:18

@rainingsnoring

if only Trump were as ‘brave’ and proactive with Putin.

Okay, any comment on the 90% uranium enrichment achieved by Iran, as quoted in the Le Monde article I linked?

ArtTheClown · 22/06/2025 08:21

Amnesty International say otherwise.

Izz81 · 22/06/2025 08:22

Trump got the assurance of Pakistan that they would not get involved in the inevitable strategic bombing by US, that was obvious from the meetings earlier in week. The US had to move because Israel was possibly days away from using a nuclear weapon on Iran anyway. US also already had the backing of the Emirates, who despise Iran. So Iran I would say may have China sending them missiles. May have Russian rhetoric behind them but ultimately, the regime is on their own now.

The realistic concern would now be the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, it wouldnt take Iran much and Ive experience of delays in issues with that shipping highway its not good, so to close it would be a huge issue in shipping.

I think Iran will just continue targeting and firing at Israel, may be target a US base, but ultimately the regime cant win. Its a dangerous situation when the regime is of a ideological mindset that death is the ultimate victory in the with or without victory in life. Most of the Iranian people, from what I can perceive from people I know, despise their rulers but the IRG are ruthlessly clamping down on any dissidence in the country at present, so a rise up by the people is next to impossible without significant help on the ground.

I dont think the attack certainly on the deeper nuclear facility located under the mountain, would have achieved anything significant.

Nobody can really predict whats going to happen now. I think Irans regime will fall, they have nobody to turn to and China will not enter itself in to a war, it has no interest in projecting outside of its region but it may continue to supply weapons to Iran for the time being. Russia will do nothing. Sleeper cells could be an issue, has been a huge concern for years. Outside of this, I think the regime will be killed off and perhaps it will get to a lower down person who wants to do a deal.

My biggest fear is that the fate of Iran, is that of Libya, Syria and so on. Places that were amazing, rich in culture and history, lovely people and its smashed to pieces and wiped out in waring militants killing men, women and children and killing each other, which is all thats going on in Libya now and I think quite clearly, also in Syria exactly as predicted. That to me is awful, the Persians do not deserve that, no people on this Earth deserves that, but its always the people that suffer the madness of religious zealots and psychopathic leaders.

As for some huge conflict being sparked from this, I don't see this happening at all.

Huge sympathies to the poor people caught up in this.

Well if they keep denying food to women and children it will be one.

AnnaBalfour · 22/06/2025 08:26

Russia looks very weak and so does China. Russia only having recently signed a ‘comprehensive’ deal with Iran. Both of their statements have shown they are staying out of it and the only real power is the US

Ghosttofu99 · 22/06/2025 08:27

GentleSheep · 22/06/2025 01:41

Yep. I do think that Iran may retaliate by activating sleeper cells in the US. After all it can't bomb the US directly so that's it's best alternative.

Why are statements about this sort of event inevitably followed by 'the world is a safer place' because of this or that action. I honestly don't think it will be after this, even if it temporarily quiets the latest war between Israel and Iran.

Elam's bow is broken, though. Biblical prophecy fulfilled. (Jeremiah 49:35)

Possibly terrorism in the west will increase although the majority of the Iranian people want out of the stifling dictatorship and are generally very well educated and would prefer an increase in democratic rights, especially for women.
