Menopause - how old were you?

Just that really - I know we're all very different but I wanted to ask, what age did you start menopause (or peri) & then how long after did you totally stop having periods?

I'm 41. Zero symptoms yet, regular periods.

I have Endometriosis and Adenomyosis (yay) and have been offered a hysterectomy. I'd rather wait for my natural menopause than go through surgery for my periods to stop, but realistically how much longer have I got?

Is it a full hysterectomy including ovaries?

FlorenceB19 · 14/06/2025 21:36

Peri started showing 42/43 (anxiety, depression, hot flashes, less tolerance than usual) & menopause 48. Started HRT 10 months after last period & it was a life saver (anxiety peeked off the charts & I felt really low for months) wished I started it during peri as I struggled throughout but was gaslit by GP's!! No surprise there tbh!

Started perimenopause at 39. Still waiting for menopause to kick in but an early change runs in the family.

Same here 39 , but now through the menopause .

ScaredAndPanicky · 14/06/2025 21:39

At 47 I had a hysterectomy and bilateral oopherectomy to put me in menopause, due to stupidly heavy periods and PMDD making me suicidal. Best decision I ever made.

Sminty2 · 14/06/2025 21:40

I stopped having periods at 49. Nothing else happened to me, no weird symptoms or anything. My mum was exactly the same.

My sister suffered the worst symptoms imaginable at 51. It’s just so random and I know I was very lucky.

RogersOrganismicProcess · 14/06/2025 21:41

Started peri at 38, aching joints followed by weight gain, poor sleep and sudden anxiety. Currently going on 45 and periods still regular! Ovulation pain has increased significantly to the point I am sick, and the first two days of periods are like a massacre. GP flipping useless!

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 14/06/2025 21:45

Peri 46/47…meno…..on day 219 of no period age 57

DramaAlpaca · 14/06/2025 21:45

I realised I was perimenopausal at 44 when my very regular cycle took on a mind of its own. I've no idea when I actually became fully menopausal because I got a Mirena coil at 46 and it stopped my periods completely.

Pleasegodgotosleep · 14/06/2025 21:46

Severe peri symptoms now at 46 but still have regular periods so think I've got a while to go. Hopefully starting hrt very soon.

I'm 56 and still have periods, not there yet

Breathmiller · 14/06/2025 21:49

Peri at 49/50, a few really challenging years years then it calmed down but still not in full menopause at 54, nearly 55. I still have short, fairly light periods every 3 months or so.

Biscuitsneeded · 14/06/2025 21:52

Peri around 51 I'd say - brain fog, hot flushes, erratic periods etc. I'm 53 and having about a period every 5 months now but you they say you can't officially call it menopause until you've done 12 months without a period, so I guess I'm still peri.

Mum2jenny · 14/06/2025 21:53

No real idea as I didn’t have any real symptoms as I was taking the pill.

britinnyc · 14/06/2025 21:54

Don’t know yet, got mirena at 47 and no periods since and no symptoms apart from bloating more easily. I don’t know if I will ever know until I get the coil removed, turning 50 in a couple of weeks.

Whenwillyoumakemyphonering · 14/06/2025 21:56
  1. Was really bad. They gave me the implant as too young for HRT
Bbq1 · 14/06/2025 21:58

38.. Forced menopause due to chemo.

Jasrun · 14/06/2025 21:59

I started getting perimenopausal symptoms around 45. My periods stopped around 48. I’m 50 now.

Dinosweetpea · 14/06/2025 22:00

46 Peri, Ongoing at 48 but periods all.over the place.

Suzie20 · 14/06/2025 22:00

First "hot flush" at 43. Last period at 53. 66 and still have flushes.

Femalefootyfan · 14/06/2025 22:01

I was 32 when symptoms started but I didn’t realise that the menopause was starting, I had a laparoscopy at 34 when I was told that it was definitely menopause and prescribed HRT. After about 6 months, I felt like my old self again and my DH felt the same.

Bringinguptherear · 14/06/2025 22:04

Does the age of menopause have any relationship to that age your periods started? I didn’t start until very late so not sure if that means I should also expect late menopause?

i’m 49 and have had more erratic periods (both timing and variation from very heavy to very light) over the last 3 years or so. I think I notice more hormonal mood variation too. But that’s all so far.

NeverTalksToStrangers2 · 14/06/2025 22:08

I'm 46 next month. No real sign of peri yet. I have the odd symptom but could also be attributed to other things (for example, during the hot weather i was sweating a lot at night, but so was everyone else). Think I actually had a very early miscarriage a few months ago. Otherwise periods like clockwork.

NeverWearingHeelsAgain · 14/06/2025 22:09

Surgically induced menopause at 44 due to BRCA2. So far it’s been easy but who knows what is to come!

anareen · 14/06/2025 22:10

👀

EscapeToSuffolk · 14/06/2025 22:11

Finished at 45. Not sure when it started because I was going through so much crap at the time that I was suffering with depression and weight gain anyway. I think my early menopause was probably brought on by stress.
