SIL/BIL/PIL = sister in law, brother in law, parents in law

LTB = leave the bastard

CF = cheeky fucker

Some are confusing

GP = grandparents or GP (doctor)
DF = dear father or dear fiance
DS = dear son or dear sister (Also Dsis)

Icepop79 · 11/06/2025 22:52

The first D usually means “Dear” so DD is dear daughter. Then you have dear husband, dear partner etc.
Can get a bit confusing when some people use DS as dear sister instead of dear son.

In terms of other initials, OP is original poster, PP is a previous poster.

LTB means “leave the bastard”.

No, sister is Dsis

No, sister is Dsis

I know it’s meant to be, but I’ve seen posts where some people put DS instead. It then gets very confusing!

Jackiepumpkinhead · 12/06/2025 19:06

I find the ‘D’ prefix highly annoying! I find myself trying to work out who on earth they are talking about. Just say ‘my husband, sister, son’ etc.

A couple off the top of my head that aren't on the MN acronym list:

VAWG: violence against women and girls

NAMALT: not all men are like that (often used as a disclaimer when discussing male violence because inevitably someone will jump on to say that their John is a lovely bloke).

You will definitely need to know LTB - Leave the Bastard. It gets used quite a lot!!😅

STBXH confused me for ages. It’s ’soon to be ex-husband’. I thought it might be ‘sh*t the bed ex’ or something!

Also, IYSWIM. If you see what I mean.

Haha I have only just learned this too. I always wondered what it meant. I made up in my mind that it was 'stupid bastard ex husband' 🤣

Dtd - darling twin daughter (commonly used with multiples but seems to stump some people).
