I always read it as “stupid b*stars ex husband” 😂

Me too! Always works in context anyway!

Maybe it IS ‘full’ and I just learned it in a swear-ier place! 😂

The advice from my son's favourite teacher before exams was RTFQ. He insisted it was Read the FULL question but the kids all.knew it wasn't!

STBXH is soon to be ex husband and not, as I initially thought, stupid B*Ard ex husband

CloudywMeatballs · 12/06/2025 21:25

I can't stand the acronyms. Is it that difficult to type the full word?

Yep.

Oops! Had a brain fart and couldn't remember the correct spelling

OliveWah · 13/06/2025 16:56

A few from the pregnancy boards that I don't think have been mentioned yet (although it's been a while since I was there!):

DTD = Doing The Deed (shagging)
AF = Aunt Flo (period)
TTC = Trying to conceive
BFP = Big Fat Positive (on a pregnancy test)
BFN = Big Fat Negative (on a pregnancy test)

KimberleyClark · 13/06/2025 17:12

GP is a confusing one, it can mean grandparent, general practitioner or guinea pig on the pets boards.

Coz it's quicker.

That's the basis of all abbreviation. Like ASAP. Or RSVP. Or BOGOF. Or RIP. Or FYI.

This surely can't be the first time you've across the concept of abbreviation?!

It’s MN-speak. I’ve been on Mumsnet since 2003 and these abbreviations have been used on here for at least that long. It’s part of the MN experience and honestly not hard to remember. BrewCake

Goldengirl123 · 14/06/2025 09:28

No it’s not as I am not stupid! I find the whole DD, DS etc a ridiculous abbreviation. I think it’s the darling bit that annoys me when that’s normally the person they are complaining about

SociableAtWork · 14/06/2025 09:36

NAMALT - not all men are like that/this
NAWALT - not all women are like that/this
STBXH - soon to be ex-husband (used when separated pending divorce or a bit sarky they’ve done something silly/wrong)

LTB - Leave the bastard - used seriously and flippantly depending on the situation

This really made me laugh for some reason! I'm going to be reading GP as guinea-pig now no matter what the context is!
