Question about lethal injection

Grim subject, I know, but why is it seemingly so hard for prisons in the states to get it right? It's clearly an unpleasant way to go...Why don't they put the person under a general anaesthetic first?

We euthanise animals quickly & painlessly, why don't they (can't they?) use the same drugs on humans?

I’m not uppity. I have expressed my opinion but apparently my reasons were not enough and was told to learn how to debate because again my reasons were not apparently valid. I honestly don’t care if you all love killers and feel sorry for them and their family and want to marry them. Do it. It really doesn’t affect my life. But I stand by what I said.

Are you even American?

What about the men who are opposed to the death penalty? Do they all want to marry prisoners too?

@BeJollyEagle there was a list posted a little way back of people who were the victim of miscarriages of justice. There was evidence in those cases. In some, there were confessions - Stefan Kiszko had learning difficulties and was coerced into confession by the police who were looking for an easy win.

You've been given the data: 20 innocent people executed since 1992, with a further 200 exonerated whilst on death row. 220 people - and that is just in the US.

If you are OK with that, you must have something wrong with you.

The original post wasn’t about miscarriages of justice, was it? It was about why can’t the judicial system use some kind of a general anaesthetic drug first. Do which I replied no, and expressed my reasons behind it.

The conversation swayed to what about innocent prisoners that have been killed due to being coerced. I never said anything about that topic. If people want to try and pull apart what I’ve said, do it, it really doesn’t affect my opinion on capital punishment. So yeah, pile it on. I stand by what I said.

BeJollyEagle · 22/05/2025 18:52

Did I say I was okay with that? Where did I post about having a problem with people who were innocent and were killed on death row?

You are in favour of the death penalty and you do not appear to understand that it is not possible to have such a thing as a 100% perfect system of justice. This means that you are OK with innocent people being executed. You do not appear to understand that it is inevitable that this will happen.

You would have to ask them? Maybe the hot ones.

Of course I understand fully, just because I don’t agree with you doesn’t mean I don’t understand. You might not agree with people having abortions but that doesn’t mean you don’t understand. I don’t need you to point at the flaws in the system, I already know them.

Drug companies don't want to sell to prisons, and qualified doctors aren't allowed carry out punitive lethal injections. So you have unqualified people doing it with less-than-optimal supplies.

You're right but it doesnt take much surely to have some standard safe protocols and training for those carrying it out.

What’s that got to do with anything? Did the post mention anything about only Americans being allowed an opinion? Other countries other than the US have capital punishment. Also a man can surely have an opinion on abortions? Why do you think so many white men are making laws on abortions in America? Because they are allowed to have an opinion.

pointythings · 22/05/2025 19:23

Well, a man can have an opinion on abortion, but the way they are doing it in the US rather suggests that it isn't a great idea to let them act on it. The abortion related deaths are stacking up nicely over there.

It does not matter your age/sex/where you’re from, you’re going to have an opinion on topics. Asking if I’m even American? What does that matter? Has the poster asked everyone who posted if they are American. Very strange question.

BeJollyEagle · 22/05/2025 19:35

Hello everyone, @Helloworlditsmeagain is asking people who have an opinion if they “are even American?” Whatever that means. Maybe thinks i’m not American so my opinion somehow doesn’t matter. Would you mind commenting where you are from so @Helloworlditsmeagain can make sure to ignore your opinions if you are not American.

Of course it matters would you want the death penalty in the UK?

White male Americans will call an abortion murder and goes against the bible. The fact they would kill an innocent man to get a quick conviction to please the people is dangerous. They are not even using beyond reasonable doubt.

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 22/05/2025 19:39

I’m surprised the American executioners aren’t worried about being sued!

Honestly, she is battling herself.

YouWillFindMeInTheGarden · 22/05/2025 19:41

It won’t ever happen in the U.K

CurlewKate · 22/05/2025 19:41

I suspect @BeJollyEagleis taking the piss and maybe we shouldn’t encourage her.

Coconutter24 · 22/05/2025 13:52

Barbaric? I’d call it karma.

Quite. If someone murdered a member of my family, I'd want them to die as painfully as possible. An eye for an eye and all that.

But you didn’t ask me that did you? You asked “are you even American?” And when exactly did you ask me if I wanted the death penalty in the UK?

I brought up men having an opinion on abortions because you asked me if I was even American, because what does it matter?

You feel strongly about it would you want the death penalty in the UK?
IF Kier Starmer put a vote out to the public tomorrow on wether the death penalty should be returned would you vote yes?
