I live in a block of flats, one of my neighbours knows that my car is fucked and had to be recovered from the hard shoulder on Friday.
The recovery guy said what he thought it was but I wanted to know for sure so I booked (and paid) for a mobile mechanic come out to have a butchers.
Me and DH go out to meet them and neighbour comes out instantly and starts asking the techs loads of questions about his own car! Obviously the mechanics don't know he's just a random neighbour so they answer but I can see they're thinking erm you paid for us to do one thing not diagnose multiple cars.
I turned to neighbour and said oh you are a nosy neighbour aren't you and he pretty much huffed off. But that's a rude thing to do right? Or is it just me.

You were quite right to challenge the neighbour. He obviously thought he could take advice of the situation. So rude!

Yeah, that’s definitely some CFery right there. He charged out and started firing off questions before you’d even gotten the mechanic to get to your car? He didn’t even wait until the end and do a “While you’re here, could I ask…?”

I’d have told him “You’ll have to pay for your own consult, Ron, he’s here to have a look at mine right now.”

On 2 counts: wanting their professional advice for free, and eating in to the time you'd paid for to have them see what was wrong with your car.

It’s rude to op, who needs her car sorted asap and rude to the mechanic, who is there to complete a job.

There are nicer ways to explain to your neighbour and the mechanics that he's not the owner of your car. Then they could chat about his problems if they wanted to after they'd finished looking at yours.

I am fully willing to accept I could be the only person on the planet to disagree, they answered so I would take it that are happy too and as it would not affect me one tiny bit I really would have no issue

In what way is OP braggy? Who is she gossiping with? She just wants the mechanic that she has paid for to concentrate on diagnosing the fault with her car rather than answering the neighbour's questions about his car.

I've seen multiple posts by this poster since last night along the same theme, slagging the poster off and pretty much going against what everyone else is saying. It's very odd. They must be bored.

OP yes it's CFery. I assume you paid for the mechanic to come out and look at your car? I'm not sure why anyone would think it wasn't rude and a bit peculiar

Personally I think this is the fault of the mechanic, they should have checked who they were speaking to or knocked the address or identified the booked car via the license plate or appearance if he found this to be an issue. The fact he was answering the neighbours questions suggests to me that he didn’t mind that much as he was clearly entertaining the conversation.
