This is cheeky fuckery right?

MNpenisadvisor · 07/05/2025 02:35

I live in a block of flats, one of my neighbours knows that my car is fucked and had to be recovered from the hard shoulder on Friday.
The recovery guy said what he thought it was but I wanted to know for sure so I booked (and paid) for a mobile mechanic come out to have a butchers.
Me and DH go out to meet them and neighbour comes out instantly and starts asking the techs loads of questions about his own car! Obviously the mechanics don't know he's just a random neighbour so they answer but I can see they're thinking erm you paid for us to do one thing not diagnose multiple cars.
I turned to neighbour and said oh you are a nosy neighbour aren't you and he pretty much huffed off. But that's a rude thing to do right? Or is it just me.

OP posts:
TheCountofMountingCrispBags · 07/05/2025 06:20

Also, while he was being a cf, OP was rude to neighbour. A devastating put-down much better than the attempted humour, which was just rude, calling him a nosey neighbour.

ObsidianTree · 07/05/2025 06:24

The neighbour does sound like a cheeky fucker. The mechanic wouldn't have known that the neighbours wasn't the customer so may have been answering as he thought the neighbour was the one paying for the call out.

The neighbour was cheeky to use your call out to try and find out about his own car when the mechanic was there to deal with your car. Especially if you were paying by the hour.

Auntiebenita · 07/05/2025 06:26

He was a CF. You were unnecessarily rude. You could have just said "Please just let them get on with what I’m paying them to do."

MissHollysDolly · 07/05/2025 06:28

if you are paying by the hour then yes. If not, leave them be. The mechanic may have been trying to get a second client.

What? How on earth have you come to this conclusion from a very normal post? What is braggy about it? Having a butchers is just normal slang.

People on here are so odd sometimes 🙄

rwalker · 07/05/2025 06:34

I used to work for one of the utilities and it was quite common people would collar you and ask you about issues they were having
when you pulled up
tbh I presume mechanic would of shut him down if he was bothered

SparklyGlitterballs · 07/05/2025 06:37

Blimey, some of the posters on here today, being obnoxious.

It's not "braggy":or "gossiping" to say 'come and have a butchers'. It's an old slang way of saying come and have a look (which is what mechanics do to diagnose a fault). Also, a lot of tradespeople charge by the amount of time spent, so yes, your neighbour was being a CF, especially jumping in before the mechanic had even sorted your vehicle.

Squirrelsnut · 07/05/2025 06:38

Some batshit replies on here.
Yes, OP, he was a CF.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 07/05/2025 06:40

Was the butcher able to repair your car?
Because if they make a mis-steak they can end up making a right hash of things.

Keyanski · 07/05/2025 05:52

That's how it came across to me. And bolding words doesn't make your statement any more real, we know it was her car, we can read, thank you.

It’s just writing you struggle with then?

It's old school Cockney rhyming slang. Butcher's hook. It's about as unpretentious as you can get.

I think some of these people are bored and antsy. God, that's an early start, though!

You sound tediously childish.

I have absolutely no idea why you would choose to create a thread about any of this.

Yet here you still are 🙄

Funnywonder · 07/05/2025 07:15

Christ, all the weirdos are out. Sleep deprivation I reckon.

Yeah OP. Cheeky so and so right there. I would be irritated if I was paying for an expert’s time and some eejit came out and piggybacked on my fault diagnosis.

Auntiebenita · 07/05/2025 06:26

Why "unnecessarily"? Sadly often the only way to deal with rudeness like the neighbour's is to be very blunt in response.

justkeepswimingswiming · 07/05/2025 07:17

Some batshit crazy replies on here. You can tell whose a CF in real life.

YANBU. I’d of offered to give them the mechanics number and said that they can ask questions when they pay him. Cheeky bastard.

It's annoying?

How is a devastating put down not rude?

Theroadt · 07/05/2025 07:21

Changeyourlifes · 07/05/2025 06:14

Personally I think this is the fault of the mechanic, they should have checked who they were speaking to or knocked the address or identified the booked car via the license plate or appearance if he found this to be an issue. The fact he was answering the neighbours questions suggests to me that he didn’t mind that much as he was clearly entertaining the conversation.

This.

AgnesX · 07/05/2025 07:31

MNpenisadvisor · 07/05/2025 02:52

....it hasn't?

So what's the problem. The recovery guy could speak or not speak to or himself.

BlondiePortz · 07/05/2025 07:32

NameChangedForThisOne236 · 07/05/2025 07:27

yes that is the only explanation, an owner spoke to someone call the papers

MyDeftDuck · 07/05/2025 07:35

Obviously, your neighbour is a chancer. You should have said ‘sorry xxx but we’re paying this person to assess and diagnose the problem with our car, and I will give you his details when we’re done. He’s on an hourly rate and the clock is ticking’.
In his defence the neighbour might not have realised that the mechanic wasn’t your family/friend and had stopped by as a favour.

Oh fgs, who squatted and dropped a broken down car in your Weetabix this morning? And the other guy's? It's a lovely May morning in a short week, go and have a nice freshly ground coffee and put some music on.
