My kids nanny has warts!

So we just got a new babysitter and I noticed that she has some warts on her hands. I don’t want my kids to get warts as they are hard to get rid of. I think I’m going to get a new babysitter. Aibu?

YANBU - she should wear a placard and a bell round her neck to warn people not to approach her 😁

WhoAreYouTalkingTo · 05/05/2025 09:51

Seriously??? Don't be ridiculous

Your kids will come into contact with the virus. No might about it. They might develop warts which usually last a few years and then the body develops a resistance to them and they disappear. They often return years later, disappear and return.

YABVVU to get rid of the nanny if this is your only issue with her.

Hedjwitch · 05/05/2025 09:57

She's a witch. BURN HER!

I think people.r being a bit harsh. I personally wouldn't want a nany with warts on her hands because I wouldn't want my children to catch them either. They are a co.plete pain to get rid of. Obviously it's a v delicate issue and I feel for the nanny, but I am with you OP

KarCat · 05/05/2025 10:03

Nanny or babysitter?
Which is it?

Dinosweetpea · 05/05/2025 10:05

I've recently developed a wart on my hand, pretty sure it came from my kids as they both went through a verucca stage (treated by me as their parent).
Guess I now need to put them up for adoption?

dontcryformeargentina · 05/05/2025 10:05

You are not being unreasonable. They are highly contagious. Why subject your kids to that when you don’t have to?

KimberleyClark · 05/05/2025 10:07

Get her to wear gloves whenever in contact with your children.

LittleLabrador · 05/05/2025 10:11

I’m currently in the process of trying to de wart and de verruca my 2 kids and omg it’s a nightmare. They each had about 2 and then they suddenly had loads. Most of the ones on my daughters hands have now gone thanks god because she was so self conscious. My sons are taking a bit longer.

so I know it sounds really harsh but I’d be gutted if after all that they were back in regular contact with the virus and likely to catch them again so I see your point! However I’m not sure that you can tell someone you’re firing them because of warts

Hdjdb42 · 05/05/2025 10:12

In primary school I caught warts from holding a friends hand, they multiplied to both hands and they took years to get rid off! I'd be concerned too. Could you ask her to wear gloves?

shellyleppard · 05/05/2025 10:12

@SwanOfThoseThings while calling out...."unclean, unclean!! "🤣🤣

beetr00 · 05/05/2025 10:13

for all mocking @YourHangryFox

All types of warts are contagious.

YourHangryFox · 05/05/2025 10:13

Sorry it’s a babysitter.

Tbrh · 05/05/2025 10:14

Gosh I didn't even know people still had these nowadays! It's probably not reasonable but I would be completely grossed out

KimberleyClark · 05/05/2025 10:16

I had a wart on my knee as young teen, tried everything to get rid of it but nothing worked. Then one day Irealised it had gone. I played with it and picked at it loads but it didn’t spread and I never got any on my hands.

ComeAsYouAreAsAFriend · 05/05/2025 10:18

So a babysitter not a nanny big difference. Just ask her if she'd mind covering them with plasters firing her is a complete over reaction.

Call my a cynic, but all threads involving the words 'nanny', 'inheritance' and 'cleaner' I now consider AI generated for ads/views.

Sad, lol, but true. Grin

Same - who accidentally writes nanny when they’re talking about a babysitter!

HellDorado · 05/05/2025 10:21

But does she have rosy cheeks? Play games - allsorts?

YourHangryFox · 05/05/2025 10:32

Yeah I might have to if she stays with us. I’m just afraid of warts because I’ve never had one and I don’t want one or my kids to have them. They’re so gross!

They’re really common and you cannot prevent your kids coming into contact with the virus that causes them. They may be immune, like you seem to be. Or they may need to develop immunity, as I explained in my previous post. That’s why we don’t see those white ‘verruca socks’ any more at the swimming pool.

Are you going to inspect the hands and feet of every kid they ever share a classroom or a padding pool or playground equipment with?
