My kids nanny has warts!

So we just got a new babysitter and I noticed that she has some warts on her hands. I don’t want my kids to get warts as they are hard to get rid of. I think I’m going to get a new babysitter. Aibu?

Does she have a black cat and a broomstick?
If no, I think you need to calm down.
If yes, you'll find the name of your nearest Witchfinder General in a Check a Trade leaflet.

Nanny McPhee?

I’m 24. I just get grossed out easily.

Grossed out by a wart and you have children? What about shit, piss, blood and vomit - are you 'grossed out' by those things too?

There are far worse 'gross' things than warts.

@FloatingSquirrel

No, I think all the “eeeeeew, it’s sooooo gross” whining about an extremely common issue makes her sound like a spoiled teenager.

Can you please direct me to the part of my post where I suggested that it was okay for people to spread them?

Edited

She said "it's so gross" not "eeeeew it's soooooo gross". Warts are pretty disgusting, not exactly pleasant to look at on your own kids even and the added thought of catching them will add to that natural aversion.

@SwanOfThoseThings while calling out...."unclean, unclean!! "🤣🤣

Whilst ringing a bell to warn others.

I do hope she's not a Norland

I just don’t want them to catch a warts and have them for years and keep coming back throughout their lives. As I’ve heard.

You are ridiculous, and you're teaching your child to be a ridiculous bully. If they did happen to get a wart or verruca, would you want their friends, family, teachers ,to treat them like lepers and refuse to touch them? Warts are annoying, but normal. Bullying and stupidity is not normal .

You poor thing! I know how tough it can be. My kids nanny was cross-eyed. Life can be so hard. Sending you strength and resilience in the face of these terrible, terrible trials.

Growsomeballswoman · 05/05/2025 16:46

She needs a bell to ring, and to shout unclean when approaching

Same - who accidentally writes nanny when they’re talking about a babysitter!

Good point

Warts just go away on their own eventually. It's literally fine.

Butternutissquashed · 05/05/2025 19:51

I’ve got a few warts on my finger at the moment. I’m a teacher so in contact with children all day. I do cover them in class but not at home and nobody at home has caught them…. Yet. They are proving to be a nightmare to get rid of though!

SwanOfThoseThings · 05/05/2025 09:51

YANBU - she should wear a placard and a bell round her neck to warn people not to approach her 😁

And ring a bell

bakebeans · 05/05/2025 20:27

AlertCat · 05/05/2025 09:54

Your kids will come into contact with the virus. No might about it. They might develop warts which usually last a few years and then the body develops a resistance to them and they disappear. They often return years later, disappear and return.

YABVVU to get rid of the nanny if this is your only issue with her.

My daughter has never developed warts?? She’s 28 now. I suffered with warts, cold sores and verrucas up until she was 5. Never had one since until 8 months ago when I got another cold sore

Echobowels · 05/05/2025 20:28

OP, I'm guessing you have yet to encounter Sporner Corner? We bloody love a good wart in that area of Mumsnet.

Dd2 is currently in my good books for letting me deal with a couple on her foot. She's a good girl, that one

And her toad

I did actually laugh out loud at that! 😂

Not the toad! Won’t somebody think of the toad?!

Yeah, like I said, not everyone develops them, just like not everyone gets nits or threadworms or cold sores. But it’s almost certain that all of us will have had some exposure to those things. That’s what you can’t prevent (and why handwashing is more useful than handwringing).
