Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

This didn't happen to me but a family in Skelmersdale, Lancs had their newly laid turf lawn stolen from their front garden. It was caught on their CCTV--a woman coolly strolled up, rolled up the turf and took it away! The video was posted online for a while, not sure if it's still up.

We have an apple tree in our front garden and someone nicked all the apples overnight. We were well narked as we were looking forward to eating them.

Have you tried a scrap car dealer/ breakers yard? They do still exist in places!

Sesame2011 · 29/04/2025 10:48

Had a house party in my younger days and someone stole a pack of portobello mushrooms from the fridge 😆

ItsUpToYou · 29/04/2025 10:50

Someone broke into SIL’s house and stole the lid of her bin. Nothing else. Just the bun lid. A few weeks later someone stole her wheelie bin from her front garden.

OneOtherThing · 29/04/2025 10:51

My washing line! I went to hang my washing out only to realise it was gone! 😆

peskypanda · 29/04/2025 10:52

We were broken into in London and they took cash/computer/electronics and…..a jar of almonds and a box of chocolates from the pantry haha

JKRismyPatronus · 29/04/2025 10:54

A concrete bench. Not sure how they managed it as it was so heavy.

We’re in a four in a block set of flats, we’re the first floor on one side. The flat downstairs was up for sale a few years ago and someone who came to view it stole my DC’s hula hoop from the shared back garden.

Tbh I partly blame the way the estate agent worded the listing. They said private garden and didn’t specify that it was shared with us so I think they probably thought everything had been left by the previous owner. We also had people viewing the flat cutting through our front garden (not shared, it’s just ours) and standing in the middle of our driveway instead of using the shared side gate. It’s up for sale again now and we’re hoping this estate agent is better than the last one.

My favourite shellsuit was nicked off our washing line in the 80s 😆

My neighbour had the path to her house stolen in the dead of night. It was beautiful York stone, about 20 slabs, and nobody heard a thing. Was glad they didn’t come to ours as we have a large patio made of it, but gutted for her.

CherryRipe1 · 29/04/2025 10:57

My old flat got broken into, stole chocolates, CDs, some hair extensions, a jumpsuit and lingerie. Very strange. Had a party once years ago and a kitchen clock and the metal rings from our cooker got nicked. Dad had his horse droppings manure pinched at his allotment.

Piratejenny99 · 29/04/2025 10:59

Mini refillable bottles of shampoo / conditioner left discretely near swimming pool showers at center parcs. I bought new refillable bottles and they leak. I miss the old ones!

StMarie4me · 29/04/2025 11:00

My son’s Ghostbuster Proton Pack and Wand in 1993 off my secure back yard. Was very expensive for me as a single parent. Kid next door had it and would not give it back. Police did nothing. No one cared. Apparently this family could get away with just taking whatever they wanted.
As you can see, I’m still bitter. My son learned a horrid lesson that day. However he is now highly successful in all he does, and a wonderful man. I can only think that the kid next door is not.

purplecorkheart · 29/04/2025 11:00

Not me but my friends elderly Dad walked down the road to post a letter and someone had stolen the post box. It was a small postbox on a pole but still.

Hollythedogwalker · 29/04/2025 11:02

A previous tenant in a house share I lived in years ago came round to collect the remainder of her stuff and stole my punnet of nectarines!

JonSnowedUnder · 29/04/2025 11:05

About 20 years ago, when I was a poor student, I splashed out on a big patterned umbrella from Accessorize. Someone bloody pinched it out of my shopping trolley at Morrisons, I'm still bitter all these years later!

My jeans from my locker at work (NHS). Awkward as we weren’t supposed to travel in uniform.

Thisismyyear2025 · 29/04/2025 11:07

My Rage Against the Machine tshirt. Was really annoyed about that, it was my favourite thing to wear at the time.

Scousemousey · 29/04/2025 11:08

Someone (police stated probs druggie) broke into my car and took a couple of furry toys off the dash and my favourite CD. I loved that CD. Bob Marley - Legend. Perfect summertime car music. 😕 I'd rather they'd have taken the whole car tbh, it was an old banger.

feelingbleh · 29/04/2025 11:08

It wasn't stolen from me but someone im assuming drunk took some plants in pots from someone down the street and placed them on my front, it was really awkward as I didn't know where they came from so left them and the owner rightfully came and took them back I just hope they didn't think I'd stole them.

PopThatBench · 29/04/2025 11:09

I didn’t think this thread would be so funny 😂

I had my all-in-one play suit stolen from my hotel room in Egypt years ago. Just a plain blue cheap primark-type holiday item, nothing fancy.
Our cleaner was male.
He didn’t steal anything else, just that one piece of clothing.

GalaxyWasOnOffer · 29/04/2025 11:09

I have a holiday let & amongst the many random things that holiday makers steal I lose a bathroom bin at least once a season. They cost a couple of quid from Home Bargains but for some reason they’re seen as the best contraband in Cornwall.

I cannot imagine the mentality of people who are prepared to spend thousands on a holiday & then steal a bathroom bin. I can only assume it’s the “we’ve paid for it, we need to get our money’s worth” attitude.

RunningJo · 29/04/2025 11:10

2 pots from our front garden, not even with particularly nice plants in, weighed a lot too.

harriethoyle · 29/04/2025 11:10

My dog poo bin. Luckily it was almost full when it was nicked so karma was pretty immediate I imagine 😂

Do you live down my street. It wasn't me 🤣🤣
