Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

A ceramic elephant from my back garden. It was quite heavy too. The side gate was open but it didn't occur to me that I'd been robbed until it dawned on me that my garden ornaments were gone. The police tracked down the cheap ones on the green space beside my house, but my lovely ceramic elephant was never found.

A friend of mine had 4 lovely hanging baskets along the front of her house. They disappeared and she noticed that very similar looking ones appeared the same day on the front of a house not far away, where a would-be gangster lived with his parents. My friend knocked and asked about them and the mum admitted she suspected her son had stolen them, so my friend took them back.

My favourite shellsuit was nicked off our washing line in the 80s 😆

The Fashion Police must have been operating in your area. 😉
Back when razor scooters first came out(and were bloody expensive) my son left his in our enclosed, gated yard and some little scrote just stole the handlebars.

AnneKipankitoo · 29/04/2025 12:07

A red warning triangle sign that we put up as my husband was hedge cutting near a busy road.
He was clearing up, popped in the house for a few minutes, and I looked out of an upstairs window to see a purple Nissan Micra pull into our driveway. The driver got out , put the sign in his boot and drove off.

shellyleppard · 29/04/2025 12:09

Someone stole my car aerial at a country park. I used to work as a home help and kept a small emergency overnight bag in my car.....that got nicked 🙄 all they would have got was two pairs of clean knickers and toothpaste and toothbrush 🤣🤣

I had the pole of a sweeping brush stolen. I had left it at the back door, when I went back the pole had gone, but they left the brush part.

I also had a broken hoover that was out the front for disposal stolen.

It was probably Trigger

I’ve just remembered one from my first place after moving out of home. It was a big block of flats and we had had issues with one set of neighbours. We were so relieved when they did a midnight flit. Then a few days later the police came to the door asking what we knew about them as they’d stolen the boiler from the flat when they moved.

Giggorata · 29/04/2025 12:17

Someone stole my hat and coat out of my car years ago. It was a 2CV, so I rarely locked it, as most people couldn't cope with the gear stick. A nice but not posh long black coat from Chelsea Girl and a floppy black velvet beret. Grr.

Also, someone popped the lock of my car overnight outside my son's flat in London, stole the cassette player but carefully placed the cassette that was inside on the passenger's seat. It was Bach's violin concertos and I didn't know whether to be pleased that I'd still got a favourite cassette or offended that they thought my taste was rubbish.

Colleague's husband is a publican; many regulars and a nice pub garden.
One old lady who lived in a nearby block of flats was very sad when her beloved cat died, and fretted about having no garden where her dear departed puss could rest in piece.
As she was a regular, he kindly offered to let her bring poor moggie in for burial ina quiet corner of the garden where she so often sat and socialised.
As she approached the pub, gently carrying the deceased, lovingly swathed, in a carrier bag, two ne'er-do-wells rushed up, grabbed what like a bag of groceries, and ran away.
I wonder what they made of the bag's contents when they opened it to examine their haul......

A old man about 90 nicked my sunglasses in San Francisco in 2007. I’ve never forgiven him! Only pair of expensive sunglasses Ive ever had.

He was a conman. Boyfriend and I were taking photos at a tourist attraction and he offered to take one of both of us. My sunglasses were on top of my head and he said “Here let me hold them”. I thought “what a kind man”. He took the photo and disappeared. I went to put my glasses on and realised. Spoke to staff -apparently it was a regular occurrence.

Not me, but... a guy we knew was in the pub with a small cheap rucksack filled with lion poo, his dad had collected it from the safari park to see if it would deter pooing foxes. It was nicked. It reeked through 3 bag layers, hence why it had been put in the corner, we had no idea how someone stole it without realising it stank.

Regarding hub caps, when it's just one it probably fell off, try driving back along your route.

Probably a member of staff put it in the outside bin 😂

Not me but my friends elderly Dad walked down the road to post a letter and someone had stolen the post box. It was a small postbox on a pole but still.

This just made me giggle- can’t imagine someone walking down the road with a post box tucked under their arm Grin

Lakeyloo · 29/04/2025 12:21

Not personally, but someone stole the entire newly laid pavement in the village i used to live in.

Hoppinggreen · 29/04/2025 12:22

My bags for life from my Trolley in Sains
Me and a member of staff went off in pursuit and spotted them, the man who took them tried to claim they were his but I knew he was lying as they were quite distinctive and made him hand them over. Staff member gave him free ones to stop him kicking off which did annoy me somewhat.

Friend ran a pub. One day someone opened the toilet cistern and stole the cleaning tablet inside.
curtains from a GP surgery.

How did they possibly managed to nick the curtains from the GP surgery?😺

The last time we were moving house we were dismantling DC’s trampoline when I realised the ladder was missing. It was a pretty high trampoline and really needed the ladder for DC to get on it.

Two doors down was a much lower trampoline with a suspiciously ill-fitting ladder on it. There were people in the garden at the time and we didn’t want to confront them so went on with our move.

Then one night a few weeks later DH and I were walking home from the pub down our old street and realised the ladder was still there so we ran into their garden and stole it back. Surprise, surprise, it was a perfect fit for our trampoline.

Londonmummy66 · 29/04/2025 12:28

One of the finials from our front railings. Thick metal so they must have sawed through it. Some scumbag also stole a set of 4 planters with boxballs from our front steps. I was really annoyed as I'd spent hours painting the planters dark green.

starfishmummy · 29/04/2025 12:28

Some edging stones from our path - which I assume are the original edwardian. I imagine the thieves got disturbed as I spotted a few of the pieces propped up against the garden wall as I arrived back from shopping. In fact they got away with just two - which is annoying as we have been unable to find matching replacements!

Twodogsisbetterthanone · 29/04/2025 12:29

A little metal Egyptian cat statue that my dad bought me when I was 10.
it disappeared from my house back when I was on the dating scene before I met now DH, so I can only think that one of the dates I bought back to the house stole it.

TickTickTock · 29/04/2025 12:30

When we were burgled, they took jewellery, and for some reason the roller blind from the bedroom! Nothing else 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Auburngal · 29/04/2025 12:32

Having a colonoscopy on Friday. The package with letter was posted to me on Thursday. It arrived damaged as RM put package in a plastic bag "apologies that your mail was received like this". The package was sliced down one side and the Plenvu prep pack was missing. If it fell out, the package would have been more torn.

Hopefully whoever stole the Plenvu didn't realise its strong laxatives and took them before reading the pack!😆

SunshineInMySprocket · 29/04/2025 12:33

A beautiful red wool coat from the coat rack in the porch of my parents’ house. I came in, took it off, had dinner and when I went to leave it was gone. No-one else had left the house & you can see through to the porch as the door has a glass pane. Complete and utter mystery.

TweetingHurricane · 29/04/2025 12:33

Newdress93 · 29/04/2025 11:43

@YesThatsATurdOnTheRug exactly I am naiive as I said!
I've reached the grand age of 31 without having had anything like it happen before. My parents were always telling me stories of things being stolen back in the 80s + 90s!

I think it’s just changed a bit, it used to be pickpocketing, house clearances and now I hear of more coming in the house to get car keys, getting into cars to nick things, power tools from vans and sheds.
The thing is in most of these posts I see on fb, the car or house has been left unlocked. I don’t get why anyone doesn’t lock things

JustMeHello · 29/04/2025 12:37

I once moved into a student flat, and inside we found a park bench, two Dundee city council bins (huge green things), a coffee table made of bound stacks of newspapers (the kind that delivery companies leave outside the newsagents at 5am), a giant cable reel coffee table, several traffic cones, a danger men at work sign over the toilet and a crossing lollipop.

GanninHyem · 29/04/2025 12:39

A set of ratty old hair extensions and a full bottle of fabric conditioner were the more bizarre items stolen from us when broken into.
