Strangest thing you've had stolen from you?

Am really annoyed that someone has probably stolen the center cap off my car wheel , have looked on Ebay for a replacement, none fit, contact the main dealer - £50 to replace. £50! Dealer has assured me there is NO OTHER COMPATIBLE wheel cap, so will likely just suck it up and pay which is the last thing we need this month.

What other weird things have people had stolen? (Call me naïve but I thought the world had moved on from stealing other peoples things!)

We were moving house a few years ago and we had a wooden Wendy house in the garden that we sold on Facebook marketplace. It was like the sort with a porch and two levels inside with an internal ladder to the top floor. It needed to be dismantled.

A couple paid for it and then over the course of the weekend worked on disassembling it and loading into their trailer and making several runs to take it to their house. We were all moved out and mostly just coming back to clean and clear out any rubbish in the house, so we pretty much just left them to get on with it.

We came back and they had left, leaving some of the playhouse bits behind, but they had stolen our hosepipe and the holder. The holder thing wasn’t even like a nice one, just a basic metal spool attached to the side of the house. They had obviously gotten tools out and unbolted the whole bloody thing from the side of the house along with the garden hose and taken it with them. 😂

It was our landlords and they never noticed it was missing, so we didn’t actually even care. But what a weird thing to nick! Also why pay £200 for something, not even take all of it with you, but steal a hosepipe and a rusty old hosepipe holder that must have taken some effort to actually detach from the side of the house?

Do you live down my street. It wasn't me 🤣🤣

I'd have let you keep them 😂

outlanderish · 29/04/2025 11:12

Had my knickers stollen off the washing line once. Pretty grotesque but funny.

BreakingGood48 · 29/04/2025 11:12

The chicken out of my chicken curry and rice that was in the fridge in work. Somebody took the lid off, ate all the chicken and just left it on the side lid still off and chickenless.

OverpricedCupcake · 29/04/2025 11:12

A monkey once stole my shampoo.

Allywill · 29/04/2025 11:13

Someone once stole a pair of prescription glasses from my car. They were the most basic pair of frames as I was a student and obviously the lens were only of use to someone with the same prescription as me (unlikely). They also took some old newspapers that were on the back seat (I was collecting them for some reason that I can’t remember now). Losing the glasses was a huge hassle as I couldn’t drive without them and it took 2 weeks to get another pair. We also had someone sneak into the house via an unlocked door and take the last piece of a chocolate cake and leave a Mac book that was next to it.

A miniature bible. I bought it from a gift shop when we were on a camping holiday, I must have been about 12yo. It was about 1 inch wide by 1.5 inch long, completely unreadable. I just thought it was cute.

A girl I’d been playing with who was staying in a tent near by also took a shine to it. One day we returned to our tent and found it was gone as was some of my brothers stuff she’d liked too. The girl was also gone; her family had packed and left while we were out for the day.

Someone stole the glass plate that sits in the microwave when I was at uni.

highly inconvenient 😂

steppemum · 29/04/2025 11:19

my friend had a large punnet of strawberries on the front seat of her car.
Went into a shop, came out, side window smashed and punnet stolen

TossieFleacake · 29/04/2025 11:19

Someone stole the tow bar off the back of my ex's car ... we only noticed when I went to put the dog lead over it while I changed my shoes.

GRex · 29/04/2025 11:19

Not me, but... a guy we knew was in the pub with a small cheap rucksack filled with lion poo, his dad had collected it from the safari park to see if it would deter pooing foxes. It was nicked. It reeked through 3 bag layers, hence why it had been put in the corner, we had no idea how someone stole it without realising it stank.

Regarding hub caps, when it's just one it probably fell off, try driving back along your route.

LimeLime · 29/04/2025 11:20

A brand new set of three knickers from the washing machine at Uni. I was incensed as they were from M&S and nice bright colours, was kicking myself for leaving the packet in the laundry room bin, someone must have spotted it and nicked them.

IsawwhatIsaw · 29/04/2025 11:22

Friend ran a pub. One day someone opened the toilet cistern and stole the cleaning tablet inside.
curtains from a GP surgery.

Newdress93 · 29/04/2025 11:24

all of these are making me laugh! in particular the dog poo bin - gross!

I accidentally left my black trousers in the locker room at college, some cunt nicked them! (Suddenly had a light bulb moment, maybe they got handed in to lost property?)

99namechanges · 29/04/2025 11:26

A work friend came round for a cup of tea, she stole the mug (20p from ikea) and a knife from the knife block in the kitchen.

Creepybookworm · 29/04/2025 11:30

2 knives from my knife block....left the others. Same burglars stole all the meat from freezer and my laundry basket...but not the lid. Perhaps to transport the loot.

MounjarNo · 29/04/2025 11:30

While we were asleep, someone got into our flat in London and took the kettle (but not the base bit with the plug) and a packet of bacon out of the fridge. Nothing else even though there was cash and other valuables in plain sight.

They must have really wanted a cup of tea and a bacon sandwich!

Errolwasahero · 29/04/2025 11:31

Wow I thought mine was petty! The metal incinerator bin we used to hold the bags while people filled them with manure. We gave them away; someone came to get manure and took it with him. People are arseholes.

Someone knicked your knickers! Sorry that ticked me.

randomchap · 29/04/2025 11:33

Compost. I came back from work one day and the compost bin has been moved.

The bin has been full of compost that was unusable as we'd had a potato scab infection and we thought it had come from it. We'd been wondering how to dispose of it and were quite happy that some idiot solved our problem for us

PoorUncleBarry · 29/04/2025 11:33

A punchbag from my garage. The worst thing was I saw it happen but thought it was my dad as the thief was wearing similar clothes so I didn't chase him away. Who steals a punchbag ffs.

EilishMcCandlish · 29/04/2025 11:34

My glasses.
Someone broke into my flat. All they took was my pair of glasses. They were not particularly stylish, expensive or designer. Just an ordinary pair of glasses. I am extremely short sighted, but with a very different prescription in both eyes, so it is not likely they would have been of any use to anyone.

A watch and a display vintage tiny bottle of Bovril. This was by the same person. I’m still friends with her but not seen her in years. She thinks no one notices that she steals stuff.

I am really curious that you are still friends.
Did you get the things back?
Did you challenge her?
Does she still steal?

So many questions!!!
