He looked terrible on the balcony..it must have been a huge effort for him to make that appearance. I would imagine Conclave will start once they've gathered all the cardinals..it's not instant.

BombayBicycleclub · 21/04/2025 09:03

He did look awful.

Not on BBC news yet.only on Sky.

Update - just came up.

StepawayfromtheLindors · 21/04/2025 09:04

Poor man, being forced to go out and about so publicly when he was hours from dying.

IsawwhatIsaw · 21/04/2025 09:04

He’s been in bad health for years.

zzplec · 21/04/2025 09:06

On BBC now.

Oh sad news, he did look very unwell yesterday but it was probably important to him to be able to participate in Easter Sunday in some way, may he rest in peace.

DurhamDurham · 21/04/2025 09:06

When I saw him on the news yesterday I said it was a shame that he’s being wheeled out when he’s clearly not at all well. But maybe he knew his time for short and wanted to come out one last time. Hope he rests in peace, imagine one of the last people you saw was JD Vance.

loveyoutothemoonandtosaturn · 21/04/2025 09:06

15 days the Daily Mail says. RIP Pope Francis. He died on Easter Sunday.

Simonjt · 21/04/2025 09:06

I’m surprised they managed to keep hime alive for as long as they did. If he was a normal person he would have died months ago.

Norugratsatall · 21/04/2025 09:06

He could hardly speak yesterday on the balcony, clearly too much for him.

TianasBayou · 21/04/2025 09:08

Why is this in AIBU? Bizarre.

JD Vance, Liz Truss, hmmm.

JennyForeigner · 21/04/2025 09:10

RIP. There is something rather touching about a very good Pope and Christian having passed at Easter.

Ugh to having had to meet JD Vance though. Pontius Pilate without the charm.

A bit like HMTLQ and Boris Johnson/Liz Truss.

He may have wanted to do this - no one could force him. Met our king, gave JD vance the bums rush and spoke to the devout.
Then went to bed and slipped away.

ZenNudist · 21/04/2025 09:14

Eternal rest grant to him O Lord.

Let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.

Very sad but also amazing that he made it to 88 and through one more Easter Sunday. He must have been holding on for that to die the morning after.

He was a great Pope. I didn't pay attention to the last 2 conclaves but I shall follow the next with great interest.

Easily done. Sorry I’d didn’t mean to be snippy.

RIP Pope Francis.

softlyfallsthesnow · 21/04/2025 09:15

I hope JD Vance isn't going to capitalise on his meeting. Some hope.

I said to DH last night that the Pope looked confused apart from being obviously ill. The trip round the huge crowds was probably too much but he maybe wanted it.

FeelingLessTired · 21/04/2025 09:16

RIP Pope Francis.

I admire his strength in making his last appearances yesterday. I am not Catholic (or Christian) but that seems very poignant and remarkable.

LadyMargaretPoledancer · 21/04/2025 09:16

Rest in Peace Pope Francis

A gentleman always knows when to leave.

Clawdy · 21/04/2025 09:16

Yes, I imagine he was determined to get through Easter Sunday for everyone. That crowd will never forget it.

Saucery · 21/04/2025 09:17

How sad. He was a good man who served his faith all his life. Very touching that he spoke to the congregation yesterday.

Wakemeupbe4yougogo · 21/04/2025 09:19

It's rare for someone that age to recover from double pneumonia and 88 is a pretty good innings.
