RIP

PinkTonic · 21/04/2025 09:22

RIP Pope Francis

HelenWheels · 21/04/2025 09:22

he didnt look well at all yesterday

devildeepbluesea · 21/04/2025 09:22

It was clear he wasn’t long for this world yesterday, I said as much. I felt for him terribly.
As leaders of organised religion go, he seemed to be one of the better ones.

Possiblynotever · 21/04/2025 09:23

His last effort was to meet Vance. Must have been hard.

Possiblynotever · 21/04/2025 09:23

His last effort was to meet Vance. Must have been hard.

And “rebuke” his views! Good on him!

WhatterySquash · 21/04/2025 09:25

RIP, he was a lovely caring and open-minded pope, as they go. Atheist here but I do agree it must have meant a lot to him, and many others, to recover enough to go home and make an Easter appearance. It was the very end of his life and I imagine to him it was about fulfilling the role he was given.

mnahmnah · 21/04/2025 09:25

He was a good Pope.

I worry now who the next will be though. Francis’ more liberal ideas upset many within the church so I fear they may go with someone more conservative like Benedict again and take the church backwards.

DeanElderberry · 21/04/2025 09:25

Eternal rest grant to him O Lord.

Let perpetual light shine upon him.
May he rest in peace.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

Amen

There's a night prayer that closes with - Grant me a quiet rest and a perfect end. Hard to think of a better end than to receive communion at Easter, to meet the poor, and to bless pilgrims.

I'm sorry we've lost him, he still had work to do, particularly in the American church, but I'm grateful for many things he did.

WhatterySquash · 21/04/2025 09:26

Yes meeting Vance might have felt like less of a good use of his limited time.

GinGanGoooooolie · 21/04/2025 09:26

@WhatterySquash , excellent post, that’s how I feel. A good one, progressive and authentic.

TyrannasaurusJex · 21/04/2025 09:27

oh well.
(YANBU, he has indeed died)

vandelier · 21/04/2025 09:28

May he rest in peace now after all his health struggles.

I recently read the book "The Two Popes" by Anthony Mc Carten about Francis and Benedict. I have to say as a non practising Catholic it was a great and very interesting read. A biography of both with all the background and Vatican stuff, including the conclaves.

One thing - I really hope that memes don't surface to say that meeting JDV was the death of him. Sorry, but it was one of the first things to cross my mind.

Cluborange666 · 21/04/2025 09:28

Ah that’s sad. He tried his best which is all any of us can do. RIP

GinGanGoooooolie · 21/04/2025 09:28

@mnahmnah , yes, Francis was admired by the world but not supported by the traditionalists within.

Let’s hope the church doesn’t look backwards.

15 days the Daily Mail says. RIP Pope Francis. He died on Easter Sunday.

Edited

He died this morning, Monday, at 7.35am, local time.

StepawayfromtheLindors · 21/04/2025 09:04

Poor man, being forced to go out and about so publicly when he was hours from dying.

No one forced him, he saw it as his duty and his privilege to give the Papal Easter Blessing.

RIP

realsavagelike · 21/04/2025 09:29

@vandelier of course they will. That was the very first thought that sprung unbidden to my mind

Dragonfly97 · 21/04/2025 09:29

Seeing JD Vance yesterday probably finished him off.

Cynic17 · 21/04/2025 09:30

FeelingLessTired · 21/04/2025 09:16

RIP Pope Francis.

I admire his strength in making his last appearances yesterday. I am not Catholic (or Christian) but that seems very poignant and remarkable.

Exactly this.
RIP Pope Francis.

BigDahliaFan · 21/04/2025 09:30

Be really interesting to see whether the church goes liberal or back to conservatism…

CreationNat1on · 21/04/2025 09:30

A fitting end to a dedicated, kind man. May he rest in peace.

x2boys · 21/04/2025 09:30

Hes been ill for months ,he waa very unwell in jsnuary when my mum was dying so i dont think its unexpected.

Withoutfearorfavour · 21/04/2025 09:30

He seemed a good man, the world needs more of those right now

Theunamedcat · 21/04/2025 09:33

PepperPep · 21/04/2025 09:08

JD Vance, Liz Truss, hmmm.

He refused to see him apparently
