Anti Trump Protests Across US

Somethingthecatdraggedin7 · 06/04/2025 07:09

Is this the start of a fightback?
Anti fart protests in more than 1000 cities across the US.
Tens of thousands massed in Washington with placards and banners.
Luckily for the orange shit and his cronies these are not violent thugs like his maga fans who broke into the Capitol threatening murder.
It is going to be a long, hard fight back to normality for America but AIBU to think that the tide will turn?

I don't wish to derail your thread but you've already won the prize for the best typo of the day 😂

I don’t think it was a typo 😂

Not a typo. Suits him.

It's strangely absent from the media.

It’s in the Guardian and the video is on Meanwhile in Ukraine

I’m on the Alt National Park fb page (have been for years - think it started around trump v1) they are reporting estimates are saying 5 million people. Don’t know how accurate that is.

deeahgwitch · 06/04/2025 15:12

77,302580 voted for Donald Trump
75,017613 voted for Kamala Harris
That’s a lot of disgruntled voters not happy with what is going on.
49.8% vs 48.3%

I think the US needs to change their electoral system - The electoral college system.
The merit of the electoral college system has been a matter of ongoing debate in the US since its inception at the Constitutional Convention of 1787.
More resolutions to amend the Electoral College system have been submitted than to amend any other part of the US Constitution.
To no avail so far………………

29Psalms · 06/04/2025 15:14

I’d be really interested in finding out whether they voted for Trump or not. Has there been any coverage of that?

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 06/04/2025 15:17

I'm guessing that most of them voted for Harris, but I'm encouraged to see them out protesting in any case.

menopausalfart · 06/04/2025 15:40

I'm sure this will be labeled as fake news or AI-generated.

needabiggerpatio · 06/04/2025 15:50

There's evidence that some of these are not true grassroots protests, but rather people paid to protest and bussed in. Even if the protestors are genuine, I wouldn't take it as a meaningful sign. There have always been people who hate Trump. There were many who would happily protest against Trump before he was elected, immediately after the election, or whenever. A large part of their identity is simply 'I hate Trump', so... Doesn't change a thing.

What evidence?

adultingforever · 06/04/2025 16:18

I'll bite: I am in the US and was at a protest yesterday. This is definitely a grassroots movement and many protesters have never before protested anything in their lives. No one is being paid to do this!! Some were joking about how long it will take to get paid.... but only as a joke. Needabiggerpatio is parroting a GOP/Russian misinformation line.

It was really reassuring to see how many people joined us yesterday, and all peacefully. It is in the mainstream news, finally, even on BBC, so you don't have to look too far to find pics and other information. Most Americans feel like a black cloud has descended over us and we are waiting to see what horror befalls us next, and trying to pay attention, but feel we are being ignored. So protesting feels like the best thing to do.

I remember China's crackdowns in HongKong and Tiananmen Square, and just hope things don't come to that here. We are peaceful, free speech protesters.

Can you provide the source of that evidence?

Thanks!

And the protests will achieve what? Yes, it will show that people are unhappy. But other than that, he's not going anywhere. If i was American I'd be more thst unhappy with his interference in Israel and Ukraine. I'd want him focusing on Americans, not getting involved in other country's issues.

LakieLady · 06/04/2025 17:24

I've seen some amazing aerial shots of thousands of people marching in several cities right across the US. One of the US channels reckoned that were over 5 million people on the streets in total.

Sadly, I don't think it will make the slightest difference to the orange shitgibbonor his backers.

They're about making opposing voices heard. What's wrong with that? It's still a democracy, for the moment, anyway.

The US is in NATO fgs, of course they are involved in what happens in Ukraine!

You're probably right, but it's better than staying home with the covers over our heads and pretending it isn't happening.

And it just might give a little backbone to the Republicans running up for reelection in 2026 if they realise their constituents might not be thrilled with what's happening.

ElbowsUp · 06/04/2025 17:28

I'm glad Americans are making their voices heard but I do fear it's rather too late. I don't expect Trump will peacefully cede power unless it is to someone handpicked.

BitOutOfPractice · 06/04/2025 17:34

No sign of it on the bbc website. Not that I doubt it’s happening. But that I despair of the news media.
