I get a bag from my child. Who then asks to share them. No. Absolutely no. AIBU for a bit more thought? I don't like that I'm expected to share, they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff.

FFS give the child a mini egg 🤣

Summerbay23 · 30/03/2025 09:52

That would be a perfect gift for me so yes I think you are being a bit unreasonable.

sunshineandshowers40 · 30/03/2025 09:53

Just share the mini eggs! How old are your DC?

shellyleppard · 30/03/2025 09:53

Given how expensive they are.... I'd keep them for myself lol

AlanShore · 30/03/2025 09:53

What is the problem with them for mother's day?

Are you violently allergic to them?

(How old is your DC?)

BitterTits · 30/03/2025 09:54

I hope this is tongue in cheek.

fourelementary · 30/03/2025 09:54

The gift is not unreasonable at all.

Child asking to share a gift immediately- unreasonable and rude.

Child (and dad) in huff over not being given egg- entitled, unreasonable and rude.

As a parent though, you have taught your child their manners- so maybe you need to think about how to do a bit better in terms of manners and etiquette re gift giving.

Fountofwisdom · 30/03/2025 09:55

Bloody hell! I’ve never ever opened a gift of chocolates and NOT offered to share them. You’ve spoilt your DC’s treat now, not surprised they’re all upset. Selfish.

eosmum · 30/03/2025 09:55

How old is the child. Mini eggs are a choking hazard for small children.

TheNightingalesStarling · 30/03/2025 09:55

How old?

When my younger child was 3, I got a Minions Easter egg for Mothers day. They had chosen it themselves, had been very insistent (as Mummy likes chocolate and Minions are brilliant). DH knew I'd see the funny side.

GreenBadger · 30/03/2025 09:56

I always ask mine to just get me my favourite chocolate and half the pleasure is sharing it with them.

frozendaisy · 30/03/2025 09:56

All of you in a huff then!

I would share them.

HaggardyOldSkin · 30/03/2025 09:57

I’d be happy with that if the child had chosen the mini eggs themselves. You clearly like mini eggs if you don’t want to share so it seems a nice gift.

Id love to get mini eggs, they're my favorite. Did the child pick themselves? To be fair the Easter eggs are everywhere in the shop so I can see why they picked them. I always share mine with my kids too. Depends how old they are as to if they "know better" I guess

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 30/03/2025 10:00

Wow! I’d have loved mini eggs for Mother’s Day. We’re not made of money though so DH would have been told off (we agreed no presents).

How old is your DC? I’d have shared without a second thought.

ChicMiss · 30/03/2025 10:00

6 years old. I'm just miffed that it's a gift I have to share. Yes it's mother's day but I'm having to share my gift. It would be nice to receive something that is just mine.

Not for Mother’s Day but a birthday a friend got a box of matchmakers of her younger brother with no cellophane on & some missing said they were like that when he bought them😀

You wouldn’t share with your 6yo?!

Lindy2 · 30/03/2025 10:01

My DD would pick mini eggs for me because she loves them. Isn't it natural that people tend to pick gifts that they know they like and assume the recipient will like too. Especially children.

I think you've been rather grumpy and I feel rather sorry for your child. I can't imagine not sharing chocolates with my family. We just all do that.

My flowers are currently hidden in the bathroom. I accidentally caught a glimpse of them earlier this morning when I forgot they were hidden in there. They're much more brightly coloured than I would have chosen myself. My children will have chosen them. I will be delighted when they give them to me. No one will ever know I would have chosen pastel colours if given the choice.

Squarestones · 30/03/2025 10:01

How old is the child? I'd have offered to share right away anyway TBH, but yabu mainly for being entitled about the level of gift you receive.

Zanatdy · 30/03/2025 10:02

You won’t share with your child? I find that genuinely quite shocking. Poor kid.

35965a · 30/03/2025 10:02

I love sharing the gifts with my children. They picked it for me with love and it’s good to show them how to share.

kierenthecommunity · 30/03/2025 10:02

This is why I like white toblerone as a present. I’m the only one in the house that likes it 😈
