I get a bag from my child. Who then asks to share them. No. Absolutely no. AIBU for a bit more thought? I don't like that I'm expected to share, they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff.

How old?

When my younger child was 3, I got a Minions Easter egg for Mothers day. They had chosen it themselves, had been very insistent (as Mummy likes chocolate and Minions are brilliant). DH knew I'd see the funny side.

Aw that's my favourite type of present - as in they've thought of you and what you'd like and got it themselves, chocolate and minions sounds brilliant 😁

6 years old. I'm just miffed that it's a gift I have to share. Yes it's mother's day but I'm having to share my gift. It would be nice to receive something that is just mine.

Good grief, they’re 6. It’s one mini egg. Sharing is caring.

upanddownandupanddown · 30/03/2025 10:30

I would love a bag on Mini Eggs! YABU.

Happyearlyretirement · 30/03/2025 10:31

I’ve just got a marvellous creations Easter egg and a biscoff chocolate bar, I never eat chocolate but I know they are my son’s favourite, I just laughed at his choice. I got a lovely card breakfast in bed and the jasmine plant I wanted so very happy.

CandyCane457 · 30/03/2025 10:31

It’s a shame your OH is in a huff over this, he could’ve made a bit more effort to make sure (on your child’s behalf!) that your day feels special !

RitaAndFrank · 30/03/2025 10:32

I don’t actually want to acknowledge this thread but on the off chance it’s real, you sound like a selfish and petty woman OP and I really hope your poor child isn’t affected by your ridiculous, spoilt and quite frankly pathetic attitude. Have a word with yourself ffs.

LuckySantangelo35 · 30/03/2025 10:32

Cucy · 30/03/2025 10:24

I think that’s an awful attitude to have.

I buy a box of chocs to share and get a takeaway for me and my DC.

For me, Mother’s Day is about being a mother which includes the kids and they should enjoy it as much as me.

@Cucy

why though? It’s Mother’s Day! Not ‘mother and kids day’”

AnneLovesGilbert · 30/03/2025 10:32

Do you like your child? If so why would you ruin their gift to you? Unpleasant.

CheesePlantBoxes · 30/03/2025 10:32

Tbf you have done some good mothering in teaching your kid that a gift is for someone else, not yourself 😆

moveoveralice · 30/03/2025 10:32

With this ridiculous attitude over a bag of mini eggs I would go out for day with dc, and leave you alone with your bloody chocolate. In fact, I would find you deeply unattractive after such a mean response to a 6 year old child.

Pippinsdiary · 30/03/2025 10:21

It’s not her DC’s treat though? What an odd comment 😂

@Fountofwisdom

its not the kids treat though! It’s Mother’s Day. The clue is in the title - it’s a treat for mothers.

CarrieOnComplaining · 30/03/2025 10:33

I honestly can’t imagine reacting like that.

B1anche · 30/03/2025 10:33

My 7 year old has bought me a big bag of revels and has spent the whole morning asking me to open them so he can have one. 🤣 We will share them, of course, but I'm making him wait!

kierenthecommunity · 30/03/2025 10:02

This is why I like white toblerone as a present. I’m the only one in the house that likes it 😈

Has you considered a career in villany?!

@B1anche I hope you’re not giving up the toffee ones or the minstrels!

From someone who’s mother would have pulled a face at my gift, then leapt on the first opportunity to tell me off, I love your post, it made me smile.

My ‘D’ M doesn’t get presents anymore OP, after all lifetime of never being good enough I realised that trying to please her was pointless.

Spidey66 · 30/03/2025 10:36

Your child is 6! 6! How much thought do you want to go into a gift from a 6 year old?

I don't have kids but if a nibling (just learnt that word recently from MN!) age 6 gave me Mini Eggs for a present, I'd love it. I love Mini Eggs! And once I'd opened them, first thing I'd do would be offer them a couple.

RubaiyatOfAnyone · 30/03/2025 10:36

Ah, mother’s day.
that magical one day of the year when you can show your beloved child that no matter how much they might be excited to give you a present they think you will love, and regardless of the fact there are over 100 identical pieces of chocolate in that present, you can really take away their joy and excitement in only a few seconds by exercising a properly miserable combination of self-importance and adherence to an imaginary set of rules you expected them to telepathically know in advance. Top marks!

Sorry OP, you are the adult here.

Btw. Do you usually tell your child they need to share toys?

socks1107 · 30/03/2025 10:37

I love mini eggs and I’d be thrilled with that from a six year old

You gave birth to that child. Why on earth wouldn't you give them a mini egg. So weird

God how old are you? You’ve ruined the day by being ridiculous.

I wouldn’t care if this was me. I’d open and share and wouldn’t be bothered if I’d only got a couple.

I think you may be a tad over-invested in the OPs life @PinkiOcelot !

Mightymoog · 30/03/2025 10:38

iseenyouwithkefir · 30/03/2025 10:18

You don't "have" to share, just say no. But then don't expect your child to share when they are given a gift.

... they've gone off in a huff and my OH is also in a huff. This would bother me more; why's everyone huffing?

why are they in a huff?
Really?

You're miffed sharing chocolate with your 6 year old. Judging you harshly right now!
