I have watched Adolescence but don’t feel it was in any way relevant to my life nor my children It’s a very good show but it doesn’t resonate & I don’t understand the hype

Erm...OK?

Stripeyanddotty · 26/03/2025 21:47

Isn’t it great it’s not relevant to you. It is very relevant to a lot of other people.

Panterusblackish · 26/03/2025 21:47

Oh well if it doesn't reflect your life, then they shouldn't have bothered making it

Chungai · 26/03/2025 21:48

It's a very good show but isn't relevant to your life so other people are massively overreacting by saying they like it?

Screamingabdabz · 26/03/2025 21:49

I think the whole point is that parents think it’s not ‘relevant’ to them or their children but your baby-faced kid is in their bedroom quietly being raised behind your back by algorithms who take them to a toxic and addictive world of porn, misogyny and violence.

gamerchick · 26/03/2025 21:49

It's like baby reindeer all over again, rammed down our throats for a few weeks and on to the next thing. They do like to rinse every drop out of stuff.

LlynTegid · 26/03/2025 21:49

It is significant in that it is the first time a drama or any other show streamed has had more viewers than a free to view tv show in any week.

I've seen a number of Jack Thorne plays and he is an excellent writer, not afraid to cover difficult subjects.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 26/03/2025 21:50

You don’t get the hype yet you are bringing it up to discuss on an open forum. People want to talk about it, that’s why it’s got hype

Stripeyanddotty · 26/03/2025 21:51

@gamerchick
Was Baby Reindeer discussed by the Prime Minister?

RocketPanda · 26/03/2025 21:51

My Sister lives a stones throw from where two teenage boys raped and murdered a teenage girl.
Andrew Tate and his like are all over the Internet with their abusive manosphere shit. This is the world your children and their peers are growing up into.

Togglebullets · 26/03/2025 21:51

I didn't rate it personally - not because it doesn't resonate. I actually think the topic is a really important one, I just don't think the show did it justice. They didn't go deep enough into what Jamie was looking at online and why. It all felt very vague. I couldn't believe how little the victim was featured - she wasn't fleshed out as a person at all.

PonyPatter44 · 26/03/2025 21:52

It's "not relevant " to many people's lives...until it is.

Jk987 · 26/03/2025 21:52

It's likely to be relevant if you have sons...
Do you think it was badly written or portrayed? Or are you annoyed you didn't like it? What's the issue exactly?

JHound · 26/03/2025 21:54

That’s nice.

Dont know, don't give a shit if it was or wasn't. But it was banged on about incessantly.

not so much now though

It was subject to a Court case, via Netflix, which was accused, by an MP, of misleading parliament. It was discussed in Parliament, but had to be done in a way to not compromise legal procedures.

TeapotTitties · 26/03/2025 21:58

I have watched a TV programme about Yorkshire but don’t feel it was in any way relevant to my life nor my children. It’s a very good show but it doesn’t resonate & I don’t understand the hype because I live in London.

I read that was deliberate to echo the way victims are often invisible compared to perpetrators in real life. And that it was 'Katie's' voice singing the soundtrack.

EveryDayisFriday · 26/03/2025 22:03

I have DDs, their safety or lack of it due to fragile manbabies terrifies me. I think it's pretty relevant to a lot of teenagers now imo.

zoemum2006 · 26/03/2025 22:03

You think the dangers of social media isn't relevant to your life and you have children?

ok....

Personally I think it's one of the most important tv shows made in ages. A real conversation starter and a warning to shake us our of our complacency.

BelloItalia · 26/03/2025 22:04

That’s stupid! The sopranos isn’t relative to my life but I still love it

not everything is about you believe it or not

ItGhoul · 26/03/2025 22:06

Why would anyone else give a shit about how it relates to your life? Your life isn’t a benchmark of importance to anyone except you.

It isn’t directly relevant to my own life either but I still think it’s an incredible piece that asks important questions about society. I personally don’t need drama to hold a mirror up to my own experiences - I’d find that quite a waste of my viewing time, actually. I’d rather get an insight to things I’m not directly familiar with.

Toothpastestain · 26/03/2025 22:14

Have another think about what you've just written....

offmynut · 26/03/2025 22:19

Ive not seen it as i have no interest but others might.

Hwi · 26/03/2025 22:21

This is very dangerous - it is called tempting fate - you are saying 'ah, not relevant to me', which is translated 'not gonna happen to me'.
