Thoughts on this wedding dress?

I am about to put down a non refundable deposit on a wedding dress maker who will be making a wedding dress to replicate the image attached.

I will go for a long veil possibly with heavier embroidery a la a mantilla.

Please be honest.

I have an hourglass figure (ie big boobs and wider hips). And my waist is defined (for now). I need a dress which doesn’t make my boobs look matronly basically.

I do love a Bardot style dress but for me it’s a bit ruffley at the front.

however I’m sure plenty people would have hated my wedding dress , but if you love the dress then that’s what matters. I loved mine and didn’t care what anyone else thought of it.

xWren · 20/03/2025 23:01

The dress is beautiful.
But I have larger boobs and that would be my idea of a nightmare dress (boobs spilling out, in people’s face leaning over, constantly pulling the dress up all night etc.)
However, I’m not a confident big-boobed person so that sways my opinion.
If you’re a confident big-boobed person, go for it!

tsmainsqueeze · 20/03/2025 23:03

I think its beautiful 'vivienne westwood ish' .
Needs a curvaceous figure to carry it off ,doesn't suit the model wearing it.
Go for it !

BatchCookBabe · 20/03/2025 23:04

I like it. You do have to have a slim-ish figure with curves in the right places to carry it off though - and you need to be a bit tall.

SkaneTos · 20/03/2025 23:05

Not a style of dress that I would choose, but if you like it and feel comfortable in it, then that is the dress for you!
You will get it made for you, so you know that it will fit you perfectly.

Congratulations!

PensionMention · 20/03/2025 23:05

I love the neckline but I do not like the gathers across the stomach. I don’t know how good the dressmaker is but it’s the sort pf dress that to look good messy needs a very skilled hand.

I’m only 5 ft 3. I thought a sleeker silhouette would suit my shorter figure.

I think it looks lovely but would be worried about boobs falling out!

ThreeMagicNumber · 20/03/2025 23:08

I love it apart from the bit at the stomach, it just doesn't sit/look right. If the dress maker can make it drape better so it's not so messy looking I think itl look lovely.

I tried one on and I felt extremely secure. It was tied within an inch of its life tbf

If you'd like to look taller, a lowish, on the shoulder neckline is probably not going to do that.

It's shortening the illusion of length.

More of a V neck line would be good for a bigger bust and elongate (the length is going up to the neck).

RedFish1 · 20/03/2025 23:08

I think the dress is beautiful for the most part, but I think there is too much excess fabric in the stomach area. It is too unstructured there and could just look ill fitting and baggy at certain angles, when you’re not posed correctly. That would be my worry. But it’s your day! So the main thing is what you think of the dress. ☺️

reversegear · 20/03/2025 23:10

I love it at 5’2 myself I think this will make you look taller and super curvy.

Theforestonthehill · 20/03/2025 23:12

I think it's a bit fussy with all the gathers below the bust, it looks rumpled rather than elegant. Maybe on someone tall with an hourglass shape, it would look better.

Friendofdennis · 20/03/2025 23:16

I think the dress will need structure to enhance your figure to its full glory. Is the dressmaker very skilled ? It will probably need to be corseted. It could look fabulous with the right structure built in

chattyness · 20/03/2025 23:20

I know that's the style of the dress the off shoulder style and all that, but that look doesn't appeal to me for a wedding dress, it looks rumpled, scruffy and messy . I am also big boobed and I feel that style draws attention to that area which I really would not enjoy

Silvertulips · 20/03/2025 23:24

I really like it! Some adding dresses look very uncomfortable it looks like a dress you could wear all day.

Lavenderandbrown · 20/03/2025 23:25

Well her posture is terrible (in that pic) and the tan lines unflattering. With a strapless dress it must fit very snug in the waist. The waist is what holds it up. I would
look for a high quality strapless bra. The fabric friction will help it stay in place also. You dont want to be “hoiking” the dress up all day so fit is essential. You can bring the fabric up a bit higher so you do not need to worry about falling out of dress. It’s very pretty and if the fabric is heavier will
lay nicely. Beautiful veil/ flowers/ maybe a bracelet/ ballerina posture and you will be stunning.

APATEKPHILLIPEWATCH · 20/03/2025 23:28

I don’t think big boobs belong in strapless/bardot wedding dresses.

Potsofpetals · 20/03/2025 23:32

If you are a size 8 yes. Anything over absolutely not.

KateDelRick · 20/03/2025 23:33

If you've tried it on amd like it, go for it. I think it doesn't look great on that model because the fit at the front isn't great. Also, you can see the whole outline of her leg, which means that the fabric might be quite thin? Or just clingy?

Honeyroar · 20/03/2025 23:34

I’m not sure. It looks baggy and unflattering around the belly and bust, plus looks like it clings to the legs, almost in a static kind of way. If it was fitted better perhaps it would work. I have big boobs and an hourglass figure (or I did before I got fat!) and I wore a strapless dress (years ago).

Don't be silly you can have the same proportions as somebody a size 8 at a 12 if you're taller and larger framed. Equally you can be a size 8 and have no figure at all.

Op the dress has ruffles on the boobs which will make them look bigger and the shoulders being dropped for the Bardot neckline will make you look wider at that point, so directly across the chest. This dress is ideal for somebody who is flat chested.

I like it but I wouldn't if you are concerned about looking busty. I feel it might make you look very top heavy.

BumbleBeegu · 20/03/2025 23:39

Sorry OP, but that is a hot mess of ruffles!
