Thoughts on this wedding dress?

I am about to put down a non refundable deposit on a wedding dress maker who will be making a wedding dress to replicate the image attached.

I will go for a long veil possibly with heavier embroidery a la a mantilla.

Please be honest.

I have an hourglass figure (ie big boobs and wider hips). And my waist is defined (for now). I need a dress which doesn’t make my boobs look matronly basically.

I think it’s beautiful! You’ll look amazing if you have curves in this. I am very thin and it would look awful on me, so very jealous.

Toddlerteaplease · 21/03/2025 06:25

Difficult to tell as that model is so painfully thin. And it doesn’t show how it would look with curves.

Lurkingandlearning · 21/03/2025 06:28

I think the ruching will make both your breasts and hips look bigger.

It’s a beautiful dress though

CheshireDing · 21/03/2025 06:30

Too much boob for a wedding dress for me. It needs altering a fair bit

HopingForTheBest25 · 21/03/2025 06:32

I'm also not keen on how it drapes across the stomach - it makes that very slim model look like she has a belly pouch! But I do love the style and don't think it matters that you aren't tall. To me, your figure is more important and I think that style will suit a woman with curves in the right places.
I would definitely try one on and get photos for the dressmaker, rather than relying on that one picture.

TotallyForgettableForNow · 21/03/2025 06:38

I don't dislike that style of dress, I do dislike that particular dress though! Obviously it's just one picture but they have managed to make it look ill fitting and cheap.

JustWalkingTheDogs · 21/03/2025 06:47

I think it’s a gorgeous dress and would look much better on someone with curves. You’d just need to be careful with your boobs if they are on the larger side, could look amazing but could also look ‘saloon wench’. The dress doesn’t look to fit the person wearing it in the picture very well at all

Pertea · 20/03/2025 23:08

I tried one on and I felt extremely secure. It was tied within an inch of its life tbf

@pertea, if you’ve tried it on, how did you feel in it? Not just boob security wise, but generally? You obviously liked it enough for it to be a serious option, but you’ve clearly got doubts, hence the post!

It’s difficult for a bunch of strangers on the internet to advise without seeing a picture of you in the dress, but it would be helpful to know what specifically is making you hesitate.

frillygillymilly · 21/03/2025 06:50

I don't like the boob area on the dress in that picture, think it draws them down if that makes sense. Unsure how that would work with big boobs.

WhatWasPromised · 21/03/2025 07:25

It hangs almost like it’s dripping wet, it’s hard to explain.

Personally I think that much boob is a bit much for a wedding but if you’re comfortable.

I would be wary of a dressmaker being able to replicate a wedding dress for much less than a bridal shop would sell the actual dress for though. Wedding dresses are a feat of engineering, they are designed to make you look your best with corsets and honing and support. If you’re big boobed a dress from an actual shop made by the designer will do so much for you.

Left · 21/03/2025 07:40

Love the dress!

My doubts would be about the dress makers skills - this is going to be hard to replicate. Have you seen other examples of their work and tailoring, have they done this style before? Just make sure you do your due diligence before paying the deposit.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 21/03/2025 07:49

I think it's utterly gorgeous. My concern would be if I put it on and the gathers minimised my boobs and hugged my tummy. But I've got a mum tum! And probably smaller boobs than you!

sashh · 21/03/2025 07:53

Have you talked to the dress maker about your boobs etc?

It looks like it might have a built in corset, if it does then the dressmaker can lengthen it so the neckline isn't as low.

Is the dressmaker going to make a calico 'muslin' that will give you an idea of how it will look?

Yeah I don't think you could pay a dressmaker in a developed country to make something like this well.

By which I mean, it would actually end up more expensive than off the peg, if made really well.

Trovindia · 21/03/2025 07:58

Having seen both your pictures, I think you're just going to look like it's falling down and doesn't fit you if you have that much boob showing and that much ruching and wrinkling, and those straps that always look like they're falling off your arms. I'm really not a fan of those straps though on any dress.

And as you said you're short, I think that effect will be heightened and you will look like you're wearing a dress that isn't the right size for you.

As a seamstress, I'm intrigued as to why you are having it made by someone else rather than just buying it directly from the person who has designed it though.

Pertea · 20/03/2025 23:58

Realky? But the rest of me is totally covered. I don’t want to look like a nun

The red dress doesn’t fit the person who’s wearing. Look at her boobs and see how one boob is away over to the other side of the coming in the middle. Perhaps if the dressmaker can make sure she makes the corset part fits you properly on the size everything else will work out ok. But to be honest, and without wishing to hurt you, the dress is very busy and confusing to look at with the draping in two substantial areas.

Doggymummar · 21/03/2025 08:10

I hope that isn't someone on their wedding day as that lady looks terrible in that dress. Like she lost too much weight for the wedding and didn't have time to get it fixed. I think on someone voluptuous like you it will look fantastic.

Celebratethesun2020 · 21/03/2025 08:11

Too much fabric on the front. Kangaroo pouch. I’m sure your dressmaker can adjust.

Weepixie · 21/03/2025 08:16

Op, when you say And my waist is defined (for now), what do you mean? Is it looking likely it’s not going to be defined when you wear the dress so you’re hoping the draping disguises it?

It would probably make a difference to how people are viewing the dress if that’s the case.

harriethoyle · 21/03/2025 08:19

It’s a beautiful dress but unless you’re 100% sure, keep looking. I tried on lots of dresses for my wedding and when I got to the one - I knew!!

Isthiswhatmenthink · 21/03/2025 09:18

The swathes of fabric at the front will accentuate any hint of a belly, which could risk people asking if you’re already pregnant. Not much fun on your wedding day.

ConnieSlow · 21/03/2025 09:30

too much boob just makes it look tacky. And fussing with your dress on your wedding day would be so uncomfortable to watch

Garedenhelp · 21/03/2025 09:35

You say you have big boobs but how big are they? I think anything over a 34 F wouldn't look good in that dress

IlooklikeNigella · 21/03/2025 09:45

It's stunning

Nowvoyager99 · 21/03/2025 09:52

Too booby/Jessica Rabbit
