Thoughts on this wedding dress?

I am about to put down a non refundable deposit on a wedding dress maker who will be making a wedding dress to replicate the image attached.

I will go for a long veil possibly with heavier embroidery a la a mantilla.

Please be honest.

I have an hourglass figure (ie big boobs and wider hips). And my waist is defined (for now). I need a dress which doesn’t make my boobs look matronly basically.

I really like it.

It doesn't suit the model though, or even fit her very well.

EMary12345 · 20/03/2025 23:41

Have you been to some bridal stores to try some on? Definitely worth doing if not so you can see how different styles suit your figure.

I don’t think big boobs belong in strapless/bardot wedding dresses.

But i had it sitting quite high so you only see a bit of cleavage. Maybe 2-2.5cm of a boob line if that makes sense

BarbieKew · 20/03/2025 23:47

I’d like it more if it was smoother across the stomach and pelvis areas, which actually would be easier for the dressmaker to replicate.

Wobblemonster · 20/03/2025 23:47

I sort of like it but I don’t think it would be flattering if you have a big bust. I don’t particularly like a lot of boob on show though, I know some people do

Pertea · 20/03/2025 23:48

I’ve given this a reference for what I what the boo age situation to look like. The dress maker assures me this is possible and won’t have me falling out

There would be structure/corset for the boobs with willowy material on top giving it the cowl effect. Is my understanding

Too much boob on show for me if it’s like the photo but if you’re comfortable that’s all that matters.

babymamalove · 20/03/2025 23:58

Very Vivienne Westwood. Elegant, I like!

Realky? But the rest of me is totally covered. I don’t want to look like a nun

I'm sorry but she looks awful in that and it doesn't fit.

They would look huge with later fabric over.

It sounds like you have made your mind up so if you like it, go for it. It's your wedding and you can wear whatever you like.

If you're worried you might hate it maybe order a similar cheap dress (house of cb have a few that are similar in style) and try it on and see if you feel good in it. You could probably pick up something like that on vinted/eBay for not a lot of money.

Devianinc · 21/03/2025 00:07

You have absolutely bone thin for that dress and if you any little puff in your stomach it’s not going to look good. That model is basically skin and bones and we know she doesn’t have a stomach but even hers links poofed out. I wouldn’t go for that style.

I am sorry but that looks awful. Very ill fitting.

As a big boob lady myself that would not be a pick for me. A v neck would be much more flattering as you can still show cleavage but in a classier way

bunnybunnybunnybunny · 21/03/2025 00:22

It's a great dress, and given OP has an hourglass figure and comfortable with showing a little cleavage, it will be perfect for her. The dress will have a inbuilt corset along with other rigging, and will be laced as tightly as possible to ensure everything is kept in place and no breasts will be falling out.

OP, ignore the naysayers. If you love the dress, go for it. If you are nervous about the neckline, use tit tape as an extra precaution but tbh, I doubt you will need it. FWIW, a friend got married in the Vivienne Westwood version of this dress. Similar figure and height as you. She looked stunning. It's been one of the few times I've had wedding dress envy.

Congratulations, wishing you much happiness for your big day.

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 21/03/2025 00:29

I think it is absolutely stunning.
Personally I would probably do on the shoulder straps vs bardot style. I think it helps create a better balance with big boobs, but either way you will look gorgeous!

Growlybear83 · 21/03/2025 00:57

I think it’s a really beautiful dress. So many wedding dresses are over fussy and awful, but thst one is lovely. O

mathanxiety · 21/03/2025 01:06

It's very nice. I hope the dressmaker can avoid the pouch effect in the lower abdomen.

Yes to this.

SpidersAreShitheads · 21/03/2025 01:44

I think you probably need to be taller than 5”3 to carry off the fussy styling, and for the dress to fall properly. On someone shorter, it will just look messy and scrunched up IYSWIM.

I also don’t like the Bardot shoulders for big boobs - ironically, I think it’s a matronly look (as a big-boobed lass myself!)

The photo of the corset you uploaded is completely different to the wedding dress though. I don’t like strapless wedding dresses for big boobs as they always look a bit heaved up and unflattering. My boobs are my favourite feature but I tend to think a wedding dress with straps or a V-neck looks better if you’ve got a top-heavy figure.

As you’re shorter and curvy I’d go for something that hugs your figure and doesn’t swamp you - you’d look amazing by the sounds of things.

AlmostAJillSandwich · 21/03/2025 01:55

Oh my that is gorgeous!
I love plain dresses and its a really nice shape cut. I hate lace and beading etc so that is the definite fabric type i would go for.

Maddy70 · 21/03/2025 02:23

I love it

Pertea · 21/03/2025 05:48

Sorry inwas showing the Salma Hayek pic re how much boob i want out. The dress wont be cupping me in the same way so will look less risque. Imo.

It's beautiful 😍

Ineffable23 · 21/03/2025 06:06

I think, forgetting everything else, I'd want to be happy that the level of corsetting the dress would require wouldn't be so restrictive that I'd spend my wedding day uncomfortable.

Certainly for me, with relatively, but not enormously, big boobs, I'd need a lot of structure not to be risking falling out of something like that. So I am not sure I'd be confident enough that I wouldn't be so tightly laced into a dress that I'd be annoyed by it all day.

RabbitsEatPancakes · 21/03/2025 06:14

Looks like a Westwood copy. I normally love that style of draped over structured corset but this isn't looking great tbh. I don't like how you can see the boning- the fabric is wrong and the drapes look a bit messy.

Sorry I think it'll swamp you and be overly fussy at 5ft 3 unless you're very slim and in proportion. I'm 5ft myself and this is something I'd only try on at my absolute skinniest or there would just be too much fabric for my frame.
